Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : "The Trial of the Villain"

In a very large hall.

The hall was so large that a crowd of people had gathered inside.

This hall was the courtroom.

Yes, because inside this large hall, the most wanted criminal was finally being tried.

Regis Lyon.

Regis Lyon was the number one wanted man, to be tried for all the major and audacious crimes he had committed.

His crimes were so dangerous that it was only out of mercy that he was being tried now.

Regis Lyon, a man with long black hair and dark eyes that betrayed a sense of danger and fear when one looked into them, was bound by radiant gold chains.

These gold chains cut off his dangerous power, lest he launch an attack on the civilians who had come to witness his trial.

"You damned devil!!!"

Amidst this crowd of people, someone began shouting in a very angry voice.

"You bastard! If it weren't for you, the Empire wouldn't have lost so many innocent lives!" shouted someone from the crowd standing in the courtroom.

Almost everyone present at the trial was a resident of the Empire.

Those absent were only small children, infants, who knew nothing.

Those present at the trial represented the entire population of the Empire; even some races were represented.

This proves that Regis Lyon's actions were among the most heinous in the Empire's history.

Even the Emperor of Humans, Elves, and others were at the trial.

"You bastard! If your sentence is death, it's the kindest you'll receive. You should be hanged nine hundred times for your vile deeds!" shouted someone from the crowd.

"No, he should be burned, then cured, then burned again until he begs for death. That would be the best solution!" The other man replied:

"We don't just want him to get what he deserves for what he did to our children! We don't want execution! We want some other punishment!" shouted one of the old women, her voice filled with fury.

"We don't want execution! We want severe punishment!"

"We don't want execution! We want severe punishment!"

"We don't want execution! We want severe punishment!"

"We don't want execution! We want severe punishment!"

The crowd began shouting in unison, demanding that Leon be punished with every possible form of torture and be tormented until his soul begged for death.

Faced with this angry outcry and the people's protests, Leon couldn't help but laugh.

As Leon laughed, the people looked at him with disgust.

"Ugh! Watching him laugh is so revolting!"

"Damn it, I'm going to throw up!"

"He deserves to be worse than the devils."

"Silence!!!!"

Amidst the angry shouts of the crowd, they were startled by a single voice ordering them to be silent.

That voice belonged to the judge presiding over this trial, Albert Schoon.

Albert Schoon was an elderly man, seventy-nine years old.

Albert was considered the finest judge in the history of the Empire.

Judges regarded him as a role model, given his fairness and courage in the courtroom.

He was always assigned to prosecute the most dangerous criminals, which was somewhat of an indication of the danger posed by Leon Regis.

"And now, with the blessing of His Majesty Emperor Marcus, Empress Arya, the Seven Great Emperors, and His Holiness Pope Roglus, I officially declare the trial of the war criminal responsible for the loss of approximately 155 million human lives, 200 million elves, and 160 million lives of other races during the fifth war of human-demons: Leon Regis."

Faced with Judge Albert's unnecessary words, Leon Regis looked at the angry crowd and the dull judge with a strange expression, his mind on one thing.

"When will that idiot announce my execution?"

These were the thoughts of Leon Regis, because, of course, he was a reincarnated Leon.

In his previous life, Leon was simply an extremely wealthy businessman.

He had a beautiful wife and twin daughters who were breathtakingly beautiful.

And, of course, Leon had founded a successful company in his previous life, one of the top ten companies in existence.

Leon was a winner in his life.

But then that day came...

Leon was driving home after a rather long day at work.

As Leon drove, thinking about his wife and daughters, he was suddenly confronted by a truck speeding towards him...

And, of course,

Leon was crushed by the truck.

And, of course, as is typical for someone traveling, Leon found himself reincarnated as a character from a video game he had played as a teenager.

That game was called Empire Hero.

It deals with the harem and training.

It tells the story of Iruma, a commoner who rose through the ranks thanks to his talent to become the strongest person in the empire and its hero, who stood against the demons' advance and sliced the Demon King in two with his sword.

As is typical of romance novels, Iruma built a harem of beautiful women and married them after the war.

However, he was embodied in the worst character of the game:

Leon Regis.

Leon Regis was jealous of Iruma and looked at him with disgust and mockery.

From the moment they met at the academy, Leon bullied Iruma, and any attempt to hinder him was orchestrated by Leon.

But since Iruma was the game's hero, he naturally solved all the problems he faced with ease and also collected the harem.

This greatly angered Leon.

How could he have such beauty and I didn't?

This was Leon Regis's thinking.

We also forgot that Leon was born into one of the purest and most powerful noble families.

After all the schemes Leon had devised, and from which Irumma had escaped, Leon decided to do the worst thing he had ever done.

He allied himself with the demons and gave them every possible means to conquer the Empire in exchange for women.

This was the stupidest decision Leon had ever made.

Naturally, since the villain's plan would succeed initially, it did, leading to the deaths of many innocent people and the invasion of Elven Land.

But, as is often the case, villains lose in the end. The demon army was defeated, Leon lost his battle against Irumma, and was put on trial.

And, naturally, Leon Regis was executed.

This was the stupidest decision the judge could make, but it was the only solution, given their fear that if Leon were tortured, he would escape, grow stronger, and the Empire would fall.

So, he was disowned by his family and executed. Iruma completed his war against the demons and won. It was certainly a happy ending, but for me, it wasn't.

I cursed my misfortune, so I didn't know whether to continue my life or start over.

Then, a rectangular green object appeared before me with some words written on it. They read:

[Hello, Host. Since you were going to live a truly wonderful life in your past life and died a very tragic death, we have decided that you will help us in exchange for our help.]

After reading these words, Leon trembled slightly and said in a voice full of doubt,

"What? What do you mean?"

After Leon asked his question, the rectangular green object replied with the following words:

[Well, Host, after all, I haven't introduced myself. I am the system of this life, and I am here to help you. If you play your role as the villain in the game correctly and are executed, we will return you to your previous, beautiful life with your wife and daughters.]

After reading these words, Leon's face lighted with happiness, but his expression quickly turned serious as he said:

"But what if you don't keep your promise? What if you're lying to me?"

[Hospital, don't worry. I'm not lying to you. If you thought I was lying, why would I know about your previous life?]

After the system's reply, Leon's doubts subsided somewhat, but he pondered something and asked:

"But what if I fail? What will happen?"

After Leon's question, the system replied:

[You will have to try again in this world until you succeed. Therefore, I wish you success in this first life.]

After the system responded, a sinister smile spread across Leon's face as he said,

"Well, since you both wish to succeed in this first life, why don't we just get off now?"

And so began the journey of the worst war criminal, who had no idea what the future held.
