As I listened to the wind howling outside, I wondered at how fate could be sometimes. In my old life, I was fully dedicated to Danny and the life he had chosen for us.
And it really was his life I was living. I hated having to go to those superficial parties were I was nothing more than a trophy on his arm. The prize he won due to his persistence.
But that was never really me. My job as a chef had allowed me to get away from him at least some of the time and in the moments when he was gone, I was more interested in a good book and a cup of tea.
I reveled in cooking for others, though I think that was mainly because I enjoyed spending time with people enjoying good food and good company.
As Gine and Uchel set the food out, Ocello and Cuau came back.
"How is your mother?" I asked.
"She is doing well. There is plenty of wood for them, though it is a bit tight in the storage room." Ocello smiled his relief.
