Cornelia's POV
I couldn't shake the unease crawling under my skin. Something about what I'd read earlier left me rattled, though I kept telling myself it was nonsense. This was real life. Those things didn't exist.
But as I stepped into the house and faced the wall of masculine tension waiting for me, that certainty wavered.
The men stood there watching me with expressions I couldn't decode. Their eyes held secrets that made my stomach twist with nervous energy.
"Where's David?" The question tumbled out before I could stop it. Not that I particularly cared about his whereabouts, but the silence stretched too thin between us.
"Still gone," Colter replied, his tone arctic.
I studied his face, remembering our strange moment this morning. Something had shifted in him then, like he was battling himself. Looking at him now, that icy wall he usually wore seemed fractured. Whatever internal war he'd been fighting, it had left marks.
