David's POV
The pain cuts through me like a blade.
Damn it, the agony is unbearable.
Nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming hurt that crashed over me the moment I laid eyes on her again.
I thought I was ready. I was wrong. The pain consumes everything, and all I wanted was to hold her close and release months of pent-up frustration and rage through our bodies connecting, but now my desire has faded, leaving me uncertain if I could even respond physically again.
All I needed was for her to silence my doubts and fears.
I needed her to end these months of torment.
Instead, she breaks down completely, her entire frame trembling beneath me like a fragile leaf in a storm.
"Don't cry," I murmur against the soft skin of her neck, pressing gentle kisses there. "This already hurts more than I can bear. Your tears only make the pain worse."
