Chapter 125 - You Really Disappoint Me

The atmosphere in the candy house instantly changed.

It became oppressive and heavy.

Meyers instantly seemed like a different person, his face grew gloomy, and malice brewed and spread in his eyes.

But very quickly, he smiled again: "Sir truly loves to joke, how can a person turn into chocolate."

Meyers casually pulled a wrapped candy from his pocket and tossed it to Lex: "This is the best-selling chocolate in our shop, have one, try it."

Lex caught it casually, then smelled an enticing fragrance that made him Can't help it peel back the wrapper, revealing a chocolate candy inside.

He held it between two fingers, about to pop it into his mouth.

"Don't eat it! Idiot!"

The chocolate candy, brought to his mouth, stopped. Lex smiled and re-wrapped it: "I just remembered, I'm allergic to chocolate."

As an 'experienced' Hunter, how could I casually eat candy given by a stranger, especially when this is a Beyonder!

Meyers said with a look of regret: "Then you're truly missing out on too many good things. If you're not going to eat it, why not give it back to me?"

Lex casually tossed it back, then said: "Alright, the riddle game ends here, Meyers. I didn't expect you to be doing quite well after that incident."

Meyers paused, then chuckled: "Meyers? Who's that? All the regulars around here know I'm Merlin, Merlin who loves children. Sir, are you sure you haven't mistaken me for someone else?"

He walked behind the counter and said seriously: "If you're not buying anything, please leave. Otherwise, I'll have to call the police."

"Meyers, I can only say, you have a great talent for acting, I almost believed you." Lex spread his hands and smiled slightly, "Do you think hiding in Tingen, disguised as a candy shop owner, can deceive us?"

"Alright, I admit, you almost succeeded. Just barely. Do you know where you went wrong?"

Without giving Meyers a chance to answer, Lex continued: "You shouldn't have killed so many official personnel. After successfully escaping, you should have come back to us, come back to report this matter."

"Instead of seeking revenge on them, you even murdered an innocent woman. Do you know that by doing so, you turned one of the official personnel into a revenger?"

"He's been watching you, never letting up!"

Lex smiled and shook his head: "Speaking of which, I have to thank him. If it weren't for his desire for revenge, we wouldn't have been able to find you through him."

"Meyers, you have to die, do you understand? Only dead men can keep secrets."

"Oh no, after you're dead, I'll also have to deal with your spirit, so that no one can commune with it, no one can use you to dig us out."

Meyers's expression kept changing; Lex knew he was wavering.

Last night, after obtaining information about the target from Cromwell, Lex made some deductions.

An operation planned by the officials went awry midway, causing several important Criminals to escape capture.

Although the Arbiter didn't make it very clear, in situations like this, there's a high probability that the news was leaked from within the official ranks.

Being able to bribe internal official personnel and obtain intelligence in a timely manner is clearly not something a Sequence 9 'Criminal' could accomplish.

Lex felt that there should be other people or forces behind Meyers. The Arbiter wanting to keep him alive earlier was likely to dig deeper.

So now, Lex was probing as if he were Meyers's backing force, while also interfering with Meyers's judgment and thoughts.

"You are an 'Executioner', no wonder you could resist the urge to eat that candy, you knew what it was all along."

Meyers lowered his voice and said: "Listen, that incident wasn't my fault. You must understand my feelings, and I regretted it afterwards, which is why I hid."

"You've seen it, I haven't been targeted by the officials for so long, which means I'm safe enough. I won't reveal anything either, so you absolutely don't need to do this!"

He opened the drawer and took out all the money inside: "I can give you all the money. I can also guarantee that I will leave Tingen tonight and never appear in this city again."

"No, I can leave Loen. I'll go to West Balam, or somewhere else. In short, Loen's officials won't find me."

Lex chuckled: "I'm already here. Do you think I'll go back empty-handed?"

"Damn it!"

Meyers roared: "Do you dare to act here? Don't forget, your identities are even more sensitive than mine!"

"As soon as I rush out onto the street, the police will intervene. By then, you'll also be in trouble. To cover themselves, they might even deal with you!"

Lex turned sideways, clearing the doorway: "You're right, if I alarm the pedestrians and police on the street, I'll be in more trouble than you."

"Now, do you want to try? See, I've even cleared the way for you."

Meyers froze, looking at the pedestrians coming and going on the street outside the door. He swallowed.

As long as I can rush out onto the street, everything will be resolved. But will he let me rush out like that? The answer is, of course, no, and I bet he's made arrangements on the street.

For example, his companions?

Lex saw that Meyers was still motionless and showed a disdainful smile: "No way? I've given you such a big advantage, what are you still hesitating for?"

"Do you not even have the courage to try?"

"Truly disappointing."

"Shut up!"

Meyers roared, grabbing a pair of scissors nearby and throwing them at Lex.

As Lex ducked to avoid the scissors, he saw Meyers crash into a wooden door behind the candy house. He smiled slightly, simultaneously charging forward.

Just as he was about to hit the wooden door, Lex grabbed a chair nearby and, based on the breathing he caught, smashed the chair inside, aiming at Meyers's position and forcing him towards the window.

The room behind this house was a small storeroom, stacked with glass jars of candy. Meyers rolled into a ball, dodging the chair, letting several of the jars shatter and candy spill all over the floor.

But he didn't break through the window. He stood there, pulling a bandage from his pocket. In the Light from the nearby gas lamp, Lex saw that this bandage was entangled with animal fur, woven into distorted shapes.

This bandage made Lex uncomfortable. He decisively took action, charging forward like a leopard, tensing his instep, and kicking out.

A faint air-blast sound echoed in the room. Meyers, holding the strange bandage, struggled to parry with his elbow and was kicked flying by Lex.

Worried about attracting the police, Lex did not use a pistol, but that did not mean he had no means of subduing his enemy.

During the 'Hunter' stage, in addition to a significant increase in physical fitness, the aspects related to combat improved even more. By the 'Provoker' stage, these aspects were all enhanced to a certain extent.

So, compared to marksmanship, a Hunter's combat skills are actually stronger!

At this moment, Meyers, who had rolled several times on the ground, had just adjusted his body and changed his posture when he saw Lex approaching at high speed, sinking his waist and swinging his arm, delivering a heavy punch towards his nose.

Lex, throwing the punch, also saw that the bandage in Meyers's hand had wrapped around his arm at some point.

He was about to hit the opponent's nose, but Lex found that Meyers's lips curled upwards.

He wasn't afraid at all, even mocking him?
