Chapter 2 - The Immortal Cultivator Arrives and Chen Xun Foams at the Mouth

"Ding! The host can add points now."

A voice came from his mind, and he still added a point to his strength, and also added a point of strength to the Black Ox.

Chen Xun found that adding strength had great benefits; his legs and feet were more energetic when working, his eyes became sharper, and he was as fierce as two men combined.

Cuihua, the blooming maiden in the village who was over forty, often secretly cast amorous glances at Chen Xun.

"Perhaps this is what it means to be a man."

Chen Xun looked at his muscles and sighed deeply; his overflowing charm had captivated countless village girls.

"Hey, Old Ox! Eat slower!"

Chen Xun was greatly alarmed; the Black Ox had actually eaten his share of the late-night snack while he was lost in thought.

Moo!

The Big Black Ox reacted quickly, swallowing it whole directly into his stomach, leaving Chen Xun dumbfounded and speechless for a long time…

The next year, Chen Xun and the Big Black Ox found a blacksmith to apprentice with. His strength greatly impressed the blacksmith, who constantly praised Chen Xun for having the makings of a blacksmith.

He didn't ask for wages, only for food for him and the Black Ox, and the blacksmith readily agreed.

The following month, because Chen Xun stepped into the blacksmith shop with his left foot first that day, which was a great taboo, they were directly kicked out.

Chen Xun was helpless; perhaps this was the pain of the strong.

They continued to find a piece of fertile land and started planting rice. The Big Black Ox plowed the fields. One person and one ox cooperated seamlessly, working diligently to get rich.

"This is our domain."

"Moo!"

Chen Xun looked at the lush green field in front of him, his eyes filled with joy. He held a Kai Shan Axe tightly in his hand, and two more were tucked into his waist.

The Big Black Ox was also overjoyed, but his four hooves were covered with blades, and an axe was tied to his horns.

"If those scoundrels dare to steal again!"

Chen Xun's eyes were filled with a cold aura as he looked at the Big Black Ox, who also looked at Chen Xun and nodded heavily.

"Just run! We will never confront them head-on. With our gear, I wonder who would dare to chase us!"

"Moo! Moo!"

However, this year was relatively smooth. It was said that something major happened in the neighboring village, and everyone was gathered together, so no one cared about Chen Xun's field.

He added another point of strength to himself and the Black Ox, happily harvesting the rice.

The Big Black Ox dug a pit in the cave, and Chen Xun naturally understood his meaning, putting countless bags of white rice into it.

However, he still kept some, planning to return them to the village chief, several times the original amount.

Clang! Clang!

The sound of gongs echoed through the village, spreading in all directions. Even inside the cave, it could be faintly heard. This was the assembly call for a major event in the village.

Chen Xun squinted slightly and quickly ran out of the cave, hoping it wasn't a village brawl. With his current strength, knocking down a big man was still more than enough.

They crouched sneakily on the small hillside to observe the situation, but the reality was quite the opposite: the village was quite festive, gathered outside the village chief's house.

"Let's go, Old Ox, let's go take a look."

"Moo!"

In the village, thousands of people, with eyes full of hope and excitement, held chickens, ducks, fish, and meat in their hands, bowing to the two people in the center.

"Yun Tian Sect is accepting disciples. Those with Spiritual Roots all have a chance to embark on the Immortal Path."

One of them, wearing a Daoist robe, stood on the roof of the village chief's house, looking down from above with an arrogant demeanor.

"Immortal, how can we know if we have Spiritual Roots?"

"That's right, my Xiao Heizi has been as strong as an ox since he was little, and the fortune-teller said he was an Immortal Reincarnation."

The villagers were excited, and a barrage of questions like a string of firecrackers made the two Cultivators frown repeatedly.

"Quiet."

The Cultivator seemed to be angry. A Talisman in his hand activated, and a great fire suddenly ignited in mid-air, terrifying beyond measure. A sensation of heat spread through the air.

The villagers instantly became completely silent, so quiet that a pin could be heard dropping. Their eyes widened in horror, thinking, "This is an Immortal!"

"It's truly like the Big Black Ox walking a dog, from beginning to end."

Chen Xun brought the Black Ox to the edge of the crowd, his eyes flashing with admiration. This world indeed had Cultivators.

Upon hearing this, the Big Black Ox's eyes flashed with confusion. When did he ever walk a dog in the village?

"Spiritual Roots are divided into Five Elements Spiritual Roots, four-element inferior Spiritual Roots, three-element medium Spiritual Roots, two-element superior Spiritual Roots, and one-element Heavenly Spiritual Root."

The Cultivator explained with his hands behind his back. A token in his hand activated, "Don't be nervous. Those under twenty years old, begin the Spiritual Root test."

A pillar of light, dazzling and multicolored, rose from the ground. A clamor arose from the villagers again; even the elderly wanted to step forward and try.

The village children and young people were eager to try, stepping forward one by one to stand, but the light pillar showed no reaction.

"This is impossible! I dreamed the other day that I was an Immortal!"

A villager muttered incoherently, his eyes full of disbelief. He suddenly turned and knelt, shouting, "Immortal, please accept me as your disciple!"

"Leave, three breaths time." A cold voice came.

"Immortal, please!"

The villager cried out, still not leaving the light pillar, "I dreamed about it!"

Pfft!

A flash of sword light, blood spurted out, and the villager's eyes still held disbelief as he slowly fell to the ground.

Countless sounds of kneeling came, and the villagers trembled like sieves, their eyes filled with fear.

Chen Xun's pupils constricted. He quickly squatted down, fine cold sweat breaking out on his forehead. These Cultivators were lawless!

The Big Black Ox also silently prostrated himself on the ground. They lowered their heads and exchanged glances, some beautiful illusions in their hearts quietly shattered.

"Continue." The Cultivator said coldly, his gaze like looking at livestock.

This time, there was no more commotion. The villagers orderly passed through the pillar of light, their eyes still filled with hope.

Chen Xun also timidly went to try, but he only had Five Elements Spiritual Roots, which didn't attract the Cultivator's attention at all.

"Not bad, there's actually one with three-element Spiritual Roots."

The Cultivator's lips curled into a faint smile as he looked at the little girl, "Say goodbye to your family."

"Yes, Immortal."

The little girl was both reluctant and secretly delighted. After saying goodbye to her family, the Cultivator even gave her family dozens of taels of silver.

"Those with Five Elements Spiritual Roots can enter the Sect to do odd jobs, and also have a chance to embark on the Immortal Path."

The Cultivator looked at a few people and said casually.

"Immortal, I'll go!"

Upon hearing this, those few with Five Elements Spiritual Roots were overjoyed and immediately knelt down.

The Cultivator glanced at Chen Xun, who was already foaming at the mouth and sweating all over. Even the Black Ox beside him was on his last breath; they were clearly frightened by the previous scene.

"Weak-willed, no hope for the Immortal Path. Go."

The Cultivator shook his head. An Immortal sword was summoned from his Storage Pouch, carrying a few people away on the sword, ethereal and transcendent.

The villagers felt a sense of loss, their gazes still fixed on the Immortal's retreating figures, feeling envy in their hearts.

"You motherf*cker… Old Ox, I told you to just pretend to be dead with a random kick, but you wanted to kill me, didn't you?"

Chen Xun lay on the ground, severely injured, his chest heaving continuously. That kick, filled with 'charm,' almost made him see his parents who had died many years ago.

Moo~

The Black Ox nudged Chen Xun. He also hadn't expected his strength to be so great.

He carried Chen Xun back to the cave. The latter recuperated in the cave for several days, and his complexion finally improved.

"We definitely can't go to those Sects."

Chen Xun explained, looking at the Black Ox's confused eyes, "Sects are too dangerous. Killing people isn't illegal, and they even eat beef with ox pizzle."

The Big Black Ox's pupils trembled, and he shook his head frantically. He didn't understand that killing people wasn't illegal, but he understood eating beef.

The incident with the Cultivator that day did not make Chen Xun yearn for it, but rather gave him an extreme sense of insecurity.

They had a feud with Old Wang's family in the neighboring village, but that was just fighting. These Cultivators would kill someone at the slightest disagreement…

Chen Xun deeply remembered that look in their eyes, just like when he himself killed chicken
