Sallie's POV
I'd already figured Rowan would go after Kemp, but I hadn't expected him to move so fast—pulling that stunt in broad daylight like some kind of madman.
I knew Rowan's tactics weren't exactly conventional, and I probably wouldn't dig up much, but I still had someone investigate the hit-and-run driver.
I also positioned more people discreetly around the hospital to keep Kemp safe. If he pulled through, Rowan would definitely try again, and I needed everything ready.
As I wrapped up my phone call and headed out, I'd barely made it a few steps when someone stepped into my path. "Ms. Isabelle, what a coincidence!"
Rowan. He materialized out of thin air and flashed me that practiced smile, acting like we were old friends catching up.
I pocketed my phone and gave him a polite but cold nod.
We were complete strangers with zero connection. If we'd passed each other on the street, we should've pretended we didn't exist to each other.
