Sallie's POV
Maybe it was because I'd been with Todd for so long, but I'd definitely gotten better at firing back. Just as I was about to continue, someone grabbed my wrist and stopped me.
I turned around, only to see Todd wearing a gentle smile, soothing me. "Don't let these kinds of people get under your skin."
He smiled brightly like nothing had happened.
I could see something dangerous flickering in Todd's eyes when Salome called him a kept man, though he stayed unfazed. But I sensed his anger wasn't because she insulted him—it was something else entirely.
What I didn't realize was how deeply Salome's mention of Draven had cut. Todd knew how important Draven had been to me, how he'd meant the world to me growing up. But Draven's love had turned to hate and distance over time.
After the Noah family turned their backs on me, I'd seen Draven as my only family, but he'd teamed up with them to send me overseas. He'd hurt me even more than the Noah family did.
