Cherreads

Chapter 14 - CH 14

"Me? I wouldn't have had to come and save you if you didn't get captured in the first place!" Jason shot back returning the glare.

"Your rescue didn't work. If you haven't noticed, we are chained to chairs and you got yourself caught."

"I wouldn't have gotten caught if you weren't so heavy," Jason grumbled.

"Oh, like your one to talk! And it's not my fault I was being held captive in the fricken sky!" both teens were trying to hide their smiles.

Behind the glass

"They don't seem all that concerned that they are chained to chairs." Scott pointed out as they watched the two teens arguing.

"I think this is kind of funny. I wish I had some popcorn," Tony said, a smile on his face.

"I have to agree with Tony." Clint chuckled as the teens stopped blaming each other for getting captured and started throwing insults at each other.

"It shows they're friends with one another that they are bantering back and forth despite their situation." Sam pointed out.

"They seem like normal teenagers when they are arguing like that." Steve frowned, wondering what these two had been through. At that moment, the door to the interrogation room opened and both teens stopped talking immediately as they watched Nick Fury march into the room.

"How did he do that? I didn't even notice him leaving this room." Scott said, slightly shocked.

"He's THE super spy." Tony sighed, as if to say you should be used to this already. He was also a little annoyed the fun was over.

"You two are filled with mysteries, and I don't like the unknown." Fury said, throwing a file on the metal table before he took a seat in the only other chair in the room.

"What can we say? You have your secrets and we have ours." Percy replied in a bored tone.

"Let's start with your name." Fury demanded, fixing his glare on to the blond kid, who was sitting as straight as he could in the chair, his face blank as he stared back at the director.

"His name is Sparky." Percy answered for him. The blond kid gave an annoyed look at Percy. "And he is Director Pirate," he gestured to Fury with his head since he couldn't move his arms. "And I'm Percy. Now we all know each other." Fury just moved his glare to Percy before turning back to 'Sparky'.

"What. Is. Your. Name," he demanded again, his tone cold and hard. Neither teen backed down.

"I told you," Percy stated, rolling his eyes.

"Why are they hiding his name?" Bruce asked, stepping closer to the glass. Fury turned to face the glass and nodded. Natasha left the viewing room and entered the interrogation room a minute later.

"I…don't know," Steve replied. His voice sounded uncertain and far away. Natasha walked behind Percy and put a gag on him. He tried to move his head out of the way, but he couldn't escape it. The blond kid's eyes narrowed as he glared at Fury; the Avengers behind the glass were expecting him to shout or struggle, but he stayed calm. Now both kids were glaring, Percy more out of annoyance.

"Name." Fury prompted. Natasha moved to the corner, carefully watching the two teens.

"This isn't right." Steve muttered.

"My name is Jason Grace," the blond teen said. His voice was solemn. Tony immediately typed the name into his tablet to see what information he could get. Fury got up and left the room followed by Nat.

"Well?" Fury prompted as soon as he entered the viewing room.

"Well, he is supposed to be dead." Everyone's eyes widened and they all turned to face Tony to see if he was kidding.

"Excuse me, he doesn't look dead." Scott stated, pointing back to the blond kid behind the glass.

"Jason Grace disappeared when he was 6 years old and was presumed dead; he had an older sister that disappeared a year a half later, also presumed dead."

"What about parents?" Bruce asked.

"Mom, Beryl Grace, was killed in a car accident a year after her daughter disappeared; she had been drinking." Tony read off, his face darkened…"father unknown," he finished in a flat tone.

"Anything else?" Clint asked.

"No school records, but much like Percy, he has some random sightings across the world." Tony said.

"So, we got practically nothing; both these kids are complete unknowns." Fury summed up.

"If it weren't for Jackson's school records he would be as much as a ghost as Grace." Sam stated grimly.

"Neither have any medical records, dental, nothing," Bruce reported. A look of frustration flashed across Fury's face as they looked at the teens on the other side of the glass.

"Based on what I got here, Jason Grace is 16, a year younger than Percy," Tony stated, which wasn't all that helpful. Fury just pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Sir, would you like me to interrogate Grace?" Nat asked. He just waved his hand. She nodded and left, only to re-enter the interrogation room. Much like Percy she didn't get anything useful out of Jason. Grace wasn't as sarcastic as Percy, he gave a few snarky comments, but other than that he stayed silent; whereas Percy continued to look annoyed.

"Well, that was a waste of time." Rhodey sighed when Nat came back into the viewing room two hours later.

"Those kids are tough." Scott stated, a hint of respect and fascination in his voice. He knew he wouldn't be able to keep from talking if he was in their situation.

"Do you think we should try the truth serum?" Sam suggested.

"No, I don't think that's a good idea…" Bruce sighed, shaking his head, not liking that idea being brought up again.

"How about we try a different approach...these two seem like good kids why don't they join the Avengers as trainees?" Rhodey suggested. If anyone had been drinking, they would have spit it out. Everyone's eyes were wide in shock and they looked at War Machine like he was crazy.

"You can't be serious?" Bucky asked after a beat of silence.

"It makes sense. We can gain their trust and also find what they are truly capable of," Clint pointed out. He wanted to get to know these kids because Rhodey was right; they seemed like good kids when they weren't glaring intently at you and being scary.

"How does the saying go? 'Keep your friends close and your enemy closer?'" Tony added, warming up to the idea. Of course, he wasn't going to tell the spies in the room that he didn't really see the teens as enemies.

"These kids seem highly trained, so how can you make sure they won't try to escape?" Fury asked, not liking the idea of letting the two very dangerous and unknown teens out of his sight.

"Well with all of us, I think we can handle them and they will be adoring us in no time." Tony said with a smile. He was determined to have these kids like him. He could just imagine all the fun they could have.

"I doubt that, but we can take every precaution," Sam said, looking back at the glass.

Fury sighed. "Fine. I want a plan on how you are going to execute this tomorrow morning. Until then, the kids stay here under lock and key." With that, he walked off. The Avengers turned back to look at the two kids behind the two way mirror. The two teens seemed to be staring right back at them, and in a way it was a little unnerving, like the glass mirror wasn't there and they could see them; they had somehow heard their entire conversation.
