Barbara Gordon, in her civilian clothes, sat meticulously cleaning her escrima sticks in the quiet hum of the Batcave. Her red hair, pulled back in a practical ponytail, framed a face set in concentration. Froakie perched on her desk, observing her with calm, intelligent eyes, occasionally letting out a soft, damp ribbit. The Batcomputer displayed various news feeds and security alerts, its soft glow a familiar presence in the cavernous space. Her phone buzzed discreetly on the desk, its screen flashing with the caller ID: "Orion Oak." A curious frown touched her lips.
"Orion?" Barbara murmured, answering the call.
Froakie, sensing the shift in her posture, hopped closer, its large eyes fixed on her face.
"Orion, how can I help you?" Barbara asked, her voice measured and professional.
"I am gathering all the trainers for a special event," Orion explained, his voice calm and inviting. "I am calling to invite you."
"A special event?" Barbara repeated, a hint of curiosity in her tone. "What kind of event?"
"It will be an opportunity for trainers to connect, to grow alongside their Pokémon, and to celebrate the spirit of partnership," Orion replied smoothly. "There will be challenges, friendly competitions, and perhaps even a few surprises."
"Challenges and competitions, huh?" Barbara mused, a small smile playing on her lips. "Sounds like fun. When and where is this event taking place?"
"It will be held at Pokémon Home, in three days' time," Orion stated. "We will have special training facilities available, as well as a new section of the Sanctuary open for exploration."
"Three days," Barbara said, considering. "I think I can make that work. Froakie could use the experience."
Froa! Froakie chirped in agreement, hopping excitedly on the desk.
"Excellent," Orion replied. "I look forward to seeing you and Froakie there."
"One more thing, Orion," Barbara added, her tone turning serious. "Have you had any more trouble from Kingpin or Electro?"
Orion's voice remained calm. "Pokémon Home is secure, Barbara. We have implemented new safeguards. Kingpin will not be an issue."
"Good," Barbara said, though a flicker of concern remained in her eyes. "Because if he tries anything, I'll be there."
"I have no doubt you will," Orion said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Until then, Barbara."
"Until then," Barbara echoed, ending the call. She looked at Froakie. "Looks like we have an event to prepare for, buddy."
Froa! Froakie chirped again, a playful bounce in its movements.
"Alfred, Owner just called," Barbara informed the butler. She carefully placed her escrima sticks back on her desk, a thoughtful expression on her face.
"Oh, indeed, Miss Barbara?" Alfred replied, his voice calm and polite. "And what delightful proposition has our esteemed Pokémon purveyor presented this time?"
Froakie, still on the desk, tilted its head, observing their conversation with interest.
"He is hosting a special event at Pokémon Home in three days," Barbara explained. "It is for all the trainers to gather, connect, and compete."
"A gathering of Pokémon trainers, you say," Alfred mused, a faint smile touching his lips. "How wonderfully quaint. I presume Master Bruce will require a detailed report of any… peculiar occurrences."
"I am sure he will," Barbara confirmed, a hint of amusement in her voice. "I will be heading to New York for it. Froakie and I could use the experience."
"Very well, Miss Barbara," Alfred acknowledged. "I shall inform Master Bruce of your itinerary. Do ensure you pack an adequate supply of your Poké Blocks. One wouldn't want Froakie to experience a dip in performance due to poor catering."
Froa! Froakie chirped, puffing out its chest.
"I will, Alfred," Barbara assured him. "And please, tell Bruce that Kingpin is still a potential threat."
"Rest assured, Miss Barbara," Alfred said, his tone turning serious. "Master Bruce is quite aware of the Kingpin's ongoing corporate unpleasantness. He will certainly appreciate the heads-up."
Barbara began to gather her gear, a small duffel bag already waiting by her desk. She carefully tucked her escrima sticks inside, then retrieved Froakie's Premier Ball.
"Ready for an adventure, Froakie?" she asked softly.
Froa! Froakie leaped into the air, a small blue streak, and vanished into the Premier Ball with a soft click.
Barbara smiled, securing the Poké Ball to her utility belt. She double-checked her comms and gadgets, ensuring everything was in order. The journey to New York would be straightforward, but the event itself promised to be anything but.
Valeria Richards, ever the diligent scientist, hummed softly to herself as she fine-tuned a new piece of equipment in her personal lab. Her Beldum floated nearby, its red eye fixed on the intricate wiring, a subtle magnetic pulse emanating from its metallic body, almost as if offering silent assistance. The hum of its internal mechanisms blended with the gentle whir of Valeria's tools.
In the common area, Franklin was fully absorbed in his video game, the bright, flashing lights reflecting in his eyes. His Ralts, perched comfortably on his shoulder, emitted a faint psychic shimmer, its delicate horns twitching in sync with Franklin's intense concentration.
Suddenly, Valeria's personal comm buzzed, the display showing "Orion Oak - Pokémon Home." She paused her delicate work, a curious frown creasing her brow. Franklin, hearing the unexpected alert, pulled off his headset. Ralts, sensing the shift in his attention, cocked its head, its small body radiating a question.
"Orion? What's up?" Valeria said, her voice crisp and professional.
Orion's warm, inviting voice filled the lab. "Valeria. I am organizing a special event, a gathering for all Pokémon Trainers."
"A gathering?" Valeria asked, her scientific mind already cataloging possibilities. "What kind of event are we talking about?"
"It will be an opportunity for growth, connection, and friendly competition," Orion explained. "A chance for trainers to hone their skills and for Pokémon to strengthen their bonds."
Franklin's adventurous spirit ignited. "A competition? Awesome! Will there be prizes?"
Valeria, ever the pragmatist, considered the implications. "And what kind of challenges will this involve, Orion?"
"The challenges will be varied, designed to test both Trainer and Pokémon," Orion replied. "I believe it will prove beneficial for all involved."
"I'm in!" Franklin exclaimed, jumping off the couch. Beldum, still floating near Valeria, emitted a delighted whirr, its red eye glowing with a happy pulse.
"Me too!" Valeria said, a rare smile gracing her lips. "It sounds like a perfect opportunity to test Beldum's progress."
Ralts! Ralts chirped telepathically, a wave of eagerness washing over Franklin. Beldum, sensing its trainer's excitement, vibrated gently.
"Excellent," Orion replied, his voice calm and pleased. "I will send you both the details shortly. It is an event that promises to be... illuminating."
