Ruby's POV
How did Stanley even discover my connection to Elias? I never breathed a word about it to anyone, not even Cloe.
"Answer me, Ruby!" Stanley's voice thundered through the narrow alley. "So this is your game plan? You were never the sweet, innocent girl you pretended to be. You were just keeping yourself pure for the richest man who'd take you!"
His fingers wrapped around my throat like a vice, cutting off my air supply.
"Please stop..." I gasped, struggling to breathe. "You're wrong about Elias and me. Meeting him was pure chance..."
"Pure chance?" His laugh was bitter and cruel. "Right. You orchestrated this whole thing from day one. That's exactly what you are - a scheming little gold-digger."
"That's not true..."
"What lies did you feed him about me? Is he backing your little revenge plot now? Don't tell me you had nothing to do with that prenup disaster either!"
