Ruby's POV
"State your name."
"Ruby Ross."
"Age."
"Twenty-three."
"Do you understand that theft of this value carries a prison sentence of more than two years?"
I fixed my stare on the officer sitting across from me. "I've explained this multiple times - I never stole anything. I was shopping with someone at that boutique. She asked me to run out and get her coffee. When I returned, she had vanished."
Four grueling hours had passed since they brought me to this police station. Every ounce of energy had drained from my body.
Nobody here cared about my version of events.
They had already decided I was nothing more than a common thief.
The officer let out a harsh laugh and drummed his fingers on his notepad. "I've dealt with dozens of girls exactly like you. No pride, no limits. You think snatching some expensive dress will magically transform your pathetic life? Those luxury items aren't meant for trash like you."
