Ruby's POV
Sleep had been impossible after what happened between Elias and me the night before.
My body still hummed from the release he'd given me, but my mind wouldn't quiet down. I kept replaying every touch, every kiss, every moment of weakness that led me to cross a line I never should have crossed.
When morning light crept through the curtains, I decided to escape before facing him again. Maybe if I could just slip out unnoticed, I could pretend it never happened.
I crept down the stairs like a burglar in my own temporary home, praying the floorboards wouldn't betray me.
But when I reached the bottom step, there he was.
Elias sat in his leather armchair, perfectly dressed despite the early hour, nursing a cup of black coffee like he'd been awake for hours.
Does this man ever actually sleep?
"Going somewhere?" His voice cut through the morning silence.
"Work," I said quickly, not meeting his eyes.
"It's Saturday."
