Chapter 9 - The Young Master Without A Fiancée And The Obsessive Mother (2)

'Shit, don't tell me I'm engaged?'

It wasn't like I hadn't seen something like this coming, yet I didn't want it to happen at the same time. Fiancées were baggage I didn't need to carry this early in my life, especially those who came to ruin it. Considering everyone in this family were villains, I had no doubt she was a villainess.

"Hey," I called out, stretching out my hand. "You can't just walk into someone's house like that."

The white-haired girl in front of the door didn't respond until my hand landed on her shoulder. The moment it did, she flinched slightly and turned her face toward me. Her complexion turned pale, and an expression of horror spread across her features.

'Huh? Did I do something to her?'

After a few seconds of staring at me, she reached for her ear and pulled out the earbuds. Even from where I stood, I could hear the song playing.

"Young master?" she finally asked, then dipped her head slightly.

The girl was strange. Was she in some kind of trance that she couldn't see me standing in front of the door, or was it that she couldn't see at all?

"Hey, you," I muttered, raising three fingers. "How many fingers am I holding up?"

The woman faced me, her head tilting ever so slightly. "Young Master Adrian, I heard you lost your memories, but isn't it obvious I can't see?" She pointed to her eyes. It was then I noticed they weren't just gray but a pale blue shade bordering on white. "I'm blind."

I felt beads of sweat forming on my forehead.

'Shut it. How was I supposed to know she was blind? Do blind people walk like that or swing a sword? I know I'm in a fantasy world, but still…'

I wouldn't ever want to be blind; death was far better than that. 'She must be a brave person.'

Composing myself and letting go of every trace of pity, I said, "I didn't know."

The young girl nodded. "I understand… but since you don't remember me anymore, could you sign that?"

"That?"

"Yes, the annulment of our engagement. Don't get me wrong, you aren't a bad person. It's just that I have much more to accomplish in this world beyond marriage or relationships. I want to become a knight, a high-ranking villain and hunter, and reach the peak of humanity."

Her pale eyes seemed to lock onto mine as if she could somehow see. "I'm my own person with my own goals, and I won't say it pains me to leave you since I never had feelings for you, but it's regrettable that we couldn't find a middle ground."

I placed a thoughtful hand beneath my jaw. This was good, almost perfect. I didn't want her; she didn't want me. Win-win. Some might think it would be bad for my reputation if she broke our engagement. I, for one, didn't care. In fact, it would help fend off potential suitors.

When I finished thinking, I nodded. "Okay, I'll sign the annulment. Don't worry about my mother or family, I'll handle them."

The young woman's large eyes widened even more. "Are you sure? This could make people look at you strangely."

I didn't answer and simply walked past her. "Don't worry," I said, glancing back. "I don't care about rumors."

The girl stood silent for a moment before offering a bow. "Thank you for your understanding. I'll be sure to repay you in the future."

'At least that's over.' Entering my room, a sudden thought struck me. Well, not sudden, something that had been on my mind for a while.

What were the limits of what I could do?

I could fly, teleport, and extend my vision unimaginably far. But was gaining powers my only limit?

I quickly turned and ran back to the door where the white-haired girl still stood.

"You, what's your name?"

The girl raised her head, which had been lowered to the floor. "I am Veronica Formosa White, heir of the White County."

"Oh, so your name's like the White Veronica Formosa flower? That makes sense."

Veronica tilted her head, puzzled. "What's that? Some extinct flower?"

I glanced at her. "No idea. But I'm sure I heard somewhere that it was white."

I wasn't lying. Back on Earth, someone had told me about a white delicate flower used in bouquets called that. I didn't even know why it came to mind now.

However, that wasn't the reason I called her. "Veronica, do you want to see?"

I needed an experiment to test how many laws I could bend.

Veronica looked confused for a few seconds, but that confusion soon turned to a frown filled with disdain. "Young… no, Adrian, are you mocking me? You might have lost your memories, but that doesn't give you the right to mock someone, no matter how highly you think of yourself."

"No," I answered calmly. "I'm not mocking you." I stretched out my hand, lifting her chin gently so her eyes met mine, and activated my order.

«Whoever I touch shall be able to see.»

Mana surged through me, and I felt it seep into Veronica's body. Her once-pale eyes began to gain color, widening in disbelief, awe, and something I couldn't quite read.

"Huh? How? What?" She couldn't form a single question as her eyes swept across the surroundings. It must have felt so foreign to her, seeing the area she had only walked through before.

A sly smile crept across my face. It wasn't part of the plan, but I was going to use it.

Give someone something they desperately want and take it away. I wasn't sure how strong Veronica was, but seeing as she was her clan's heir and dreamed of becoming a knight, she was at least close to that level.

Gradually, I released her chin. Her hands, which had been by her sides, twitched as if to reach for mine, but I slipped away even faster. From now on, she would be a chess piece in my game of conserving energy.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she spoke. "Adrian…" her voice cracked faintly. "What? How did you do that?"

I walked back into the room, using the coldest tone this body could muster. "Don't ask stupid questions. As you said earlier, there's nothing between us."

"Then why?"

I glanced back at her. "Why I did that to you? Because you were the only person around."

She said nothing more. After a while, she stared at my door, turned around, and left.

I couldn't care less at that point. Whether she returned or not was entirely up to her. And it wasn't like I'd be in trouble if she told someone. In this world filled with magic and sorcery, a man who could make a blind girl see shouldn't shake the continent.

"Now I know my orders can affect people's bodies," I concluded, falling onto the bed. "Now I just need to test how fast I can shift from one law to another."

One second in battle was enough to nearly get me killed. I still had regeneration, though it didn't make it hurt any less.

Staring at my hand stretched toward the ceiling, I heard a soft knock on the door. When I turned my head toward the entrance, my eyes fell on the lady knight who had saved me.

With a small bow, she said, "Young master, the Duke and elders summon you."

So, it's that time, huh? The time to lie my way into the greatest villain clan.

«Whatever I say from now on shall be regarded as the truth by all forces in the world.»

I rose from my bed as mana surged through me. Reaching the door, I passed the knight and continued forward. "Let's go."

The female knight followed behind as we headed for the northern tower.
