"Oh, my God, is this guy insane? Building something that dangerous right under Brooklyn?" Middle-Aged Peter exclaimed.
Spider-Man Noir sneered: "That's the behavior of a capitalist! They only care about their profits. Why would they care about anyone else's safety? He probably hopes for a disaster so he can profit from it!"
"Profit? How could he profit?" Spider-Ham asked curiously.
Noir explained: "These capitalists own more than one type of business. Perhaps they own construction companies, food suppliers, or pharmaceutical labs? Those are the lucrative sectors during a disaster."
Gwen looked at Noir: "You seem to deal with people like him often."
Noir shrugged: "To be precise, they are the only people I deal with."
"Quiet down, both of you!" Peni turned around, clearly annoyed.
"Sorry, sorry," Spider-Man Noir and Middle-Aged Peter quickly apologized.
Peter (Earth-616), however, had been focused on the data. He was deeply interested in the particle accelerator. After all, it was the black technology capable of breaking the barriers between parallel universes! Of course, he had no intention of replicating it, but as a scientist, interest in advanced, paradigm-shifting technology was his professional instinct.
This Particle Collider consisted of a 30-kilometer-long ring of superconducting magnets and thousands of magnets of different types and sizes. The former were used to contain the high-energy particle beams; the latter were the accelerating structures designed to propel the particles in a specific direction. For example, there were 1,232 15-meter-long dipole magnets used to bend the particle beams and 392 5-to-7-meter-long quadrupole magnets used to focus the particle streams.
When the Particle Collider was activated, two streams of high-energy particles would be generated within the accelerator. These two beams would travel through separate beam pipes in opposite directions at speeds approaching the speed of light. Simultaneously, under the influence of the powerful external magnetic field, the two high-energy particle streams would be confined to the accelerating ring, undergoing staged acceleration until they successfully "collided." But these particles were incredibly small; making them collide was like launching two needles from ten kilometers apart and trying to make them hit each other. The difficulty alone was staggering.
The Gadget created by this world's Spider-Man, Peter Parker, targeted one crucial part of the collider's operation: Cooling. The conditions required to accelerate the two high-energy particle beams to near the speed of light were extremely harsh. First, the environment inside the beam pipes needed to achieve an ultra-high vacuum state to minimize particle loss. Second, the strong magnetic field required to constrain the particle beams needed a massive number of superconducting electromagnets. These electromagnets were made from special cables that operated in a superconducting state, effectively transmitting current with virtually no resistance or energy loss. To achieve this state, the magnets needed to be cooled to approximately negative 271 degrees Celsius, a temperature colder than outer space!
For this reason, most accelerators are connected to a liquid helium distribution system and other equipment, which is responsible for cooling the magnets. Spider-Man's Gadget was, in essence, a Trojan program designed to sever the connection between the accelerator and the liquid helium distribution system. Once the liquid helium system stopped cooling the accelerator, the temperature of the superconducting electromagnets would steadily rise, causing them to lose their ability to constrain the high-energy particle beams. Consequently, the high-energy particle streams would fall into disarray, making the planned collision impossible. Simultaneously, due to the excessive heat, the strong magnets could even become demagnetized, and the specialized cables would be burned out by the temperature exceeding their rated capacity, effectively rendering the entire Particle Collider inoperable. This method would ensure that even if Kingpin had ample spare materials, he would be unable to repair the collider in a short time.
This was Spider-Man's plan! And now, it was Peter (Earth-616) and his team's plan.
Peter and Peni spent an entire morning analyzing the data! Subsequently, with Peni and her mech taking the lead, and Peter providing his valuable scientific insight, the two quickly finalized the repair plan. The plan received unanimous approval from the others—who, lacking specialized knowledge, simply deferred to the scientists.
The next steps, however, no longer required Peter's (Earth-616) specific expertise. He could offer analysis and theories based on his scientific training, but the actual, hands-on repair work was still outside his field. Thus, the task of repairing the Gadget was left to Peni Parker.
As for Peter... He returned to the abandoned factory. But this time, the training group was larger. In addition to Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham, Middle-Aged Peter and Gwen Stacy had also tagged along.
"So... what are you two doing here?" Peter (Earth-616) stood on the high beam again, turning to look at Gwen, who stood with her arms crossed, and Middle-Aged Peter, who was leaning against the wall with his belly protruding. Middle-Aged Peter shrugged: "I'm bored." Gwen raised an eyebrow: "I'm here for the entertainment." Peter: ...
Spider-Man Noir walked up behind Peter: "Heh heh, are you ready?" "Do I really have to jump?" Peter subconsciously swallowed. He didn't have a fear of heights, but standing on a beam only a few inches wide and dozens of feet off the ground would make any normal person nervous. And he was supposed to jump off!
"Of course you have to jump. It's the most direct way to test," Noir stated. Spider-Ham pulled a half-eaten hot dog from his pocket and stuffed it into his mouth: "What are you scared of? You have four Spider-Men here! We won't let anything happen to you."
"Al... alright, well, then I..." Looking down at the ground, Peter was still hesitant. Gwen scoffed: "You seem to have less courage than Miles. Can you even do this?"
"Are you questioning my ability?" Peter grits his teeth. "A man never says no!"
He quickly checked the web-shooter on his wrist—another piece of equipment from this world's Spider-Man, provided by Aunt May. It had been confirmed that Peter (Earth-616) did not have the organic webbing ability, so the web-shooters were essential.
Then, he took a deep breath. The words of Mary Jane flashed in his mind: "My husband, Peter Parker.""He was just an ordinary man.""He always said anyone could be the person behind the mask.""He just happened to be bitten by a spider..."
"I'm just an ordinary man who happened to be bitten by a spider and inexplicably transported to this world... Is this a gift, or a curse? Either way, I'm ready to find out!"
Peter hesitated no longer. He leaped off the beam, dropping straight toward the ground.
