Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Miles Scares Himself

Peter (Earth-616) ignored them and held up a second finger. "The second ability: Camouflage, what you call invisibility." "Miles, you can merge your body, along with your clothes, into the surrounding environment, achieving a visually invisible effect. If you develop it enough, your invisibility can even evade infrared detection!"

"Wow, that's so cool!" Spider-Man Noir exclaimed. "Is this kid really that capable?" Miles scratched his head, looking a little bashful.

Middle-Aged Peter raised his hand: "I can confirm that he can indeed turn invisible; I saw it with my own eyes this afternoon. However, evading infrared detection is really cool. Can you do that?" He tilted his head toward Miles as he asked the last question. Miles was hesitant: "Can I?"

Peter affirmed: "You can!" "Okay!" Hearing Peter's words, Miles seemed pumped up: "I can do it!"

At this point, Peter held up a third finger. "The third ability is..."

"What? There's a third one???" Spider-Man Noir exclaimed. Just the two abilities Peter had mentioned—abilities none of the other Spider-People possessed—were already impressive and made them a little envious. Was that not even the end?

"This one, I'm actually not entirely sure about," Peter admitted. "It's best for you to find a way to confirm it yourself later, Miles." Miles nodded eagerly: "Tell me! What is it? I can confirm it later."

Peter stated: "The third ability is: Immortality."

"Immortality?"

"Yes!" Peter confirmed. "Immortality is one of the potential side effects of the OZ Formula, and that factor exists in your genetic makeup, so you should possess this ability. However, I don't know the specifics of how it manifests; you'll have to discover that yourself."

"Mhm, mhm!" Miles nodded rapidly, committing Peter's words to memory.

"And the last ability—Energy Burst! Under extreme stress, you can release all your physical and spiritual energy at once, creating a powerful energy shock, strong enough to destroy this entire underground base!" Peter finished in one breath.

This revelation stunned even Middle-Aged Peter, who had been supporting Miles. "Miles, did you hear that? You're that powerful!"

"Uh... am I?" Miles looked completely bewildered. Everything Peter had said went far beyond his current ability to process. How large was this underground base? Conservatively, the visible area alone was five to six thousand square meters, about half a football field! And the depth was dozens of meters! And the power stored in his body, if released all at once, could destroy a place that huge!

Amidst the bewilderment, Miles felt a surge of genuine fear. He was terrified of the power contained within him! He was not ready for this!

The expressions of the others grew somewhat complicated. If Peter's claims were true, Miles's potential was indeed enormous. But at the same time, he became an "anomaly" among the Spider-People—a Spider-Man who resembled a sorcerer more than a martial artist! Whether good or bad, anomalies always receive extra scrutiny.

After a long while, the group finally digested the shocking news and began to move again.

Middle-Aged Peter patted Miles's shoulder: "In that case, let me train you. Let's unlock your power!"

"I..." However, Middle-Aged Peter was met not with enthusiasm, but hesitation.

"What's wrong?" Middle-Aged Peter asked, confused. He knew how much Miles craved power. Miles desperately wanted to become stronger because he believed it was the only way to help people and prove himself. He was a kid full of burning passion. Middle-Aged Peter saw his own younger self in Miles. So, despite his occasional grumbling, he genuinely liked Miles—perhaps this was the famous Spider-Bond.

Miles hesitated: "But I'm scared..."

"Scared?" Middle-Aged Peter was even more bewildered. Gwen, however, noticed the underlying issue. She folded her arms: "Are you afraid that your power will lose control and hurt someone?"

Miles nodded: "My body holds such incredible power. If I accidentally unleash it and hurt someone... I'd regret it for the rest of my life!"

Peter (Earth-616) was taken aback by Miles's response. He never expected that analyzing Miles's abilities would cause the young hero to be so awed by his own power that he would shrink back from it. What was this? An overcorrection? Shouldn't a normal person be thrilled to learn they have such potential? Only a person destined to become the next generation of Spider-Man could have such a unique thought process.

And then, something even more surprising happened: After some persuasion from Middle-Aged Peter, Miles, for whatever reason, decided to take the elevator and leave!

"Why did he leave?" Peni asked curiously. Peter (Earth-616) mused: "Maybe he wasn't mentally prepared to be that powerful yet?" Gwen interjected: "Or maybe he wasn't prepared to become a ticking time bomb?"

Middle-Aged Peter shrugged: "He said he needed some quiet time." Spider-Ham asked curiously: "Quiet time? Who is Quiet Time?"

"How should I know who Quiet Time is..." Middle-Aged Peter's face was etched with frustration, clearly annoyed by Miles's sudden abandonment of the mission.

"Alright, guys, let him find his quiet time. We still have things to do here," Peter jumped in, taking control of the conversation. He then turned to Peni: "Peni, now that we have the computer data, can we start trying to fix The Gadget?"

Peni and her mech companion walked over to a workbench where Aunt May had already connected the computer host Middle-Aged Peter had brought to a monitor. Peni started operating it, digging into the files. Hearing that the serious work had begun, the others stopped criticizing Miles and gathered behind Peni to look at the data.

Kingpin's Super Particle Collider was a device built upon the foundation of a high-energy synchrotron accelerator. Its main function was to accumulate and accelerate two particle beams injected from preceding accelerators. Once they reached sufficient intensity and energy, the beams would collide to generate an extremely high reaction energy. Although called a "collider," it was effectively a super-device integrating both a particle accelerator and a particle collider. The entire collider's total length was an astonishing thirty kilometers! It was built almost entirely beneath Brooklyn. This explained why this world's deceased Spider-Man had desperately tried to stop its activation. If something went wrong, the device had the power to literally blow up all of Brooklyn! This endangered the lives and property of nearly 2.6 million people!
