There were around 20 people who were awaiting their test.
"Please come forth", the aged supervisor's voice reverberated throughout the entire hall.
A young man, first in the queue, stepped forward and entered the testing zone.
'Why am I 19th in the queue?'
Blaine and all the other 18-year-olds who had come to test themselves could see everything through the screens.
The testing area was large. The area was several times larger than it looked from the outside.
'This is like a pocket dimension'
"To prevent the destruction that some Ascenders can do, this large area has been built", the old supervisor spoke in a melancholic voice.
"In front of you, about 200 meters away. There is a slime. Please go and punch it"
"A slime? What a joke"
"How are we going to be tested by punching a slime?"
"Is this really how far the Ascender Union has fallen?"
The young men were disappointed. They have spent countless nights fantasising about this day, and they were informed to punch a slime.
"Please calm down. This slime infront of you is the Dragon Slayer monster, which almost destroyed the entire city a thousand years ago. It has officially been in our control since then. It has been immobilised for this test and has been used for months."
Even though no one spoke a word, Blaine could feel the atmosphere. The nervousness and the fear resonated through the entire hall.
The young man, who was first in the queue, after walking 200 meters with shaky legs, saw the slime.
The slime was as tall as a man and as wide as a carriage. It was purple in colour. It did not have any eyes. In fact, there were no visible sensory organs.
Blaine knew this slime. After locking himself in the study, he had studied the history of the kingdom and the human race. This slime caused several casualties until it was stopped by the combination of the greatest Ascenders of the time.
Well, Blaine has only read it in a book.
These people around him probably know about this slime since they were children. Mothers use the Dragon slaying slime to scare the kids.
"The Dragon Slayer has been in the control of our Ascender Union for a thousand years. We have used a thousand years of our cumulative knowledge to contain it and place it infront of you. Please trust the power of humankind"
The old man's voice certainly calmed the environment.
The young man who was first in the queue punched the slime.
Nothing happened.
"Do I have to punch it again?"
"Sorry, Mr John. You've failed"
"What do you mean? I've failed? I think there is a malfunction in the slime. I will continue to punch it again"
The young man continued to punch the slime over and over again.
"Mr John, you've failed. Please move out, we have other people in the queue"
"No, how can I fail?"
The young man fell on his knees, and tears were flowing like a river. He shouted and stomped the ground several times.
"Please escort, Mr John", the old man spoke to the red-haired female attendant from before.
Her eyes glowed with blue hues, and she entered the testing zone in the blink of an eye.
She grabbed the young man and brought him outside in the flash of a second.
'She's not only beautiful, but she sure is fast; her Ascender powers must be interesting. '
"Next"
Several people tried. The scene was absolutely gut-wrenching. Many cried, and some had a mental breakdown. For the Ascenders of the Ascender Union, it was just like any other Tuesday. Since birthdays occurred every single day, the testing zone was literally a storage of tears throughout the year.
After 18 people, not a single one became an Ascender.
'It's my turn finally'
"Mr Dorian, please make your way"
As Blaine walked, his legs trembled uncontrollably. He was even more nervous than when he had submitted his university applications in his old world. Every step that he took towards the testing zone, he grew more anxious.
'Electricity....billionaire'
'Electricity....billionaire'

Blaine chanted the words, electricity and billionaire. If he didn't succeed, he had a plan.
Blaine soon approached the Dragon Slayer. Even though he was an agnostic, he asked and prayed to the 10 gods as he walked towards the slime.
He was soon a meter away from the slime.
'Well, this is for you, Dorian'
Blaine folded his fingers and made a fist.
He swung his body halfway around and punched with all that he could.
BAM!
Nothing happened.
'No...No..'
He again hit the slime.
BAM!
"Mr Dorian..You have...."
'Well, electricity billanaire it is'
"Mr Dorian, you've passed the test. Congratulations, you're officially an Ascender"
"HUHH? But nothing has happened?"
"Please witness the other side of the slime"
"As Dorian went around the slime and saw the other side."
The blocky slime had grown a huge spike on the other end. The purple colour had changed, and the spike was blue in colour.
"Congratulations, Mr Blaine. The slime that you've punched has transferred your Ascender's momentum through, and the spike is the effect."
Blaine's mouth was wide open. He closed his mouth, and a huge smile was written on his handsome face.
'Thank you, Dorian. I'll see the wonders of this world from your body from here onwards. I will live the life that you never saw. I will be a good son and a brother to your family, rest assured. From this moment onwards, I am Dorian.'
Dorian walked out of the testing zone. His father came running towards him with tears of joy.
"I knew it, my dear son"
"Yes, Father."
This was the first time Dorian said the word 'Father' sincerely.
"Congratulations, Mr Dorian. You've officially become an Ascender. You will get access to your attributes after a week or two. Please do not stress it. To celebrate the happy occasion, please come with us."
The Ascender union brought Dorian out and drew a portrait using an artefact. It was even better than the camera in the real world. It clicked the picture as it was seen with human eyes.
'Well, who needs electricity when you've got such devices"
Then Dorian signed several documents and registered himself as an Ascender.
"You're the only one who became an Ascender on this day. You can join any of the several academies throughout the entire kingdom and learn to apply your skills in the real world."
Dorian and his father returned home in their carriage.
"You've accomplished the thing your father had once dreamed of for a long time in his youth. The entrance exam for Canon Academy is in a month. I'm sure you will get a good attribute and pass the entrance, my dear son."
"I hope so, Father"
