Chapter 8 Part 4: The Witch's Revelation

"If I could I'd have taught Sister Anna by now. If you don't believe me look at my hand."

"Your hand? There's nothing."

"No this is my mana. See? You can't even see my mana. How would you learn my magic?"

"Oh…"

Luca pouted, dejected.

"Actually… it's not impossible."

Lu Fei spoke up.

"What way?"

Luca perked up.

"If you can adapt to my mana convert your body's mana into the same kind as mine then you could probably use my magic."

"But once you learn my magic, you might be unable to use other mana like your sorcery."

"Whatever you cast no matter what magic it would only cause destruction."

"Uh forget it. I never asked!"

Luca abandoned the idea at once.

"So this is the Holy City so splendid."

It seemed built upon water.

Silver-white buildings magnificent.

Through the gates, they saw sea on all sides. In the distance stood a tall tower the Sage's abode.

All around were trading boats; even small vendors set up on tiny skiffs.

A silver-white path ran in the middle for those without boats.

But this was no time to admire the view.

"Sister Anna, I'll take you to my friend she's the Sage's disciple she'll surely bring us to the Sage."

Luca patted her chest with confidence.

"Thank you, Luca."

"Hehe I should be thanking you. After I introduce you, I'll register as an adventurer too! Don't you dare refuse me!"

"No problem!"

Under Luca's lead, Lu Fei paid a few gold coins to board a small boat.

It was expensive.

No surprise the Holy City's costs were high.

They sailed admiring the sights as Anna's heart slowly calmed.

No matter what

The way to lift the curse lay ahead.

At last

They reached the base of the tower.

Before a golden gate stood two silver knights one on each side.

"Halt!"

Seeing them, the knights stepped forward to block.

"Stand down look who I am."

Luca held her head high, hands on hips, staring them down.

The knights looked closely then knelt in salute.

"Forgive us, Princess!"

Lu Fei was surprised.

She really was a princess.

"Hehe sorry for keeping it secret. Anyway let's go inside first."

Luca stuck out her tongue sheepishly.

"Mm."

Lu Fei and Anna didn't mind.

A princess had to hide her identity.

Otherwise, villains might kidnap her.

"Lilina I'm here! Come greet your princess!"

With Lu Fei's group in tow, Luca swaggered into the tower and kicked open a door.

"Ah! You again!"

A panicked voice cried out.

"Can't you knock? Ill-mannered Princess!"

A soft loli voice floated out.

In sight stood a silver-haired twin-tailed girl about 1.4 meters tall.

She wore a white Gothic dress; petite, slender waist a true loli beauty.

"Hehe caught you again. Hiding here to read weird books?"

Luca strode in and teased the flustered girl.

"I… was not reading… that kind of book… and who are these? There's a man! Is he your boyfriend?"

Lilina feigned composure, hiding the book behind her, trying to look prim.

"No! These are my benefactors. They need something treat them well! Or I'll report you tell the Sage his genius disciple is a pervy girl who reads lewd books!"

"Ahhhh! Luca, shut up!"

Lilina flushed red and glared baring tiny tiger teeth.

Cute.

"I'll treat them well!"

"Hehe good. Then I'm off. Sister Anna may your wish come true. No matter what Luca will support you."

"Thank you."

Getting them here already wonderful.

"Ahem this way, please."

Lilina said, turning down a side corridor.

In an office

Lilina sat and looked at the four opposite.

"Let's introduce ourselves. I'm Lilina as you can see, the current Sage's disciple."

"I'm Lu Fei this is Anna."

"Amy, Ellie elves our sisters," Lu Fei said.

"Miss Lilina we have only one purpose here the witch's curse."

Lilina shot to her feet.

Her face turned serious.

"That's serious. One moment I'll contact my master!"

She drew out a crystal and muttered softly.

The crystal glowed.

"What is it?"

A deep voice issued; Lilina straightened instinctively. "Master, the witch's successor is here."

"I know. Wait a moment."

"Hum."

Suddenly, the air before them rippled.

A tall man in a white robe, hood drawn to shadow his face only his eyes visible appeared.

Spatial magic!

From that alone, the Sage was no simple figure.

"All right, Lilina leave. I'll receive our guests."

He waved a hand.

"Yes, Master."

Lilina bowed and withdrew.

Matters of witches were beyond a mere disciple.

"You are the Sage?"

Anna looked at the man and somehow, those eyes felt familiar.

But she couldn't place why.

"Yes I am the Sage."

The low voice sounded; he sat of his own accord.

"I already know your purpose."

"You wish to break the witch's curse. This is not your first time here, Miss Anna."

"What do you mean?"

Anna was at a loss.

The Sage glanced at her; a heat flashed in his gaze.

"Literally, Miss Anna you've been here many times. Of course, those weren't the current you merely the past you. There's some connection but you remain you a new Anna."

"It is said the world was half-devoured by a witch that is true."

"And the witch who devoured the world possessed reincarnation. That is though she's sealed, she can still reincarnate herself."

"No one knows what she wants."

"Some say she longs for love. Some call her mad. Some say she was once just an ordinary girl."

"Our world, centered on the witch, has repeated countless times. When certain people die, the world returns to the start and a new witch is born."

"Do you understand?"

"The 'new vessel' that's me, right?" Anna stared into his eyes.

"Yes."

The Sage nodded.

"You want to break the curse there's only one way. Go to the place of sealing and kill with your own hands the one who started the reincarnations the original witch the original Anna."

"Because you are the new witch only you can do it. But before that what you should do is not suppress the witch's power but complete awakening and master it."

"Otherwise, Miss Anna, you will always be at the witch's mercy."

"You'll repeat the same tragic fates as your prior selves hatred, jealousy, despair. Once born in the new witch's heart, they strengthen the original one."

"Then how do I fully awaken and control the witch's power?"

Anna cut to the key question.

The Sage finally gave an answer.

"Wash away mortal filth soak in the Sacred Pool. Then I will conduct the awakening ritual."

"However, to be frank, I have little hope."

"I have repeated this many times only to see Miss Anna become the witch's puppet in the end turning into a new mad witch in an alternate space."

"Yes I can seal the witch when you lose control into the alternate space. Only thus can we keep the world from being wholly devoured."

"But then reincarnation begins anew. Whatever happens, the current Miss Anna will be gone becoming merely a witch's shadow in the alternate space."

"So whether to face the witch directly you must think it through."

"If you don't confront her directly perhaps you can live well for a while longer merely suppressing the witch's factor for now."

"I understand. Let us think it over," Anna said.

"Very well. I respect your decision. When you decide, seek me anytime. You may also reside in the tower."

"Thank you, Sage."
