Chapter 3 Part 4: Companions and Conflict

The nearby adventurers eyed the group hungrily.

Warriors and mages were common, but support types were hoarded by nobles and royalty.

Healing potions were costly.

A support-magic user in the team would save lots of money.

Amy quickly finished, becoming an adventurer.

Elves had a natural advantage strong magic.

Next was her sister.

Ellie placed her hand, releasing an even more dazzling green light.

The adventurers' gazes grew wilder.

Some teams were already plotting to invite Amy and Ellie.

The brighter the light, the higher the gift.

Who'd have thought timid Ellie had even greater support talent than her sister.

She too became a level 1 adventurer.

After registering, the card fused into her left hand as a tattoo.

To summon, just think of it handy and secure.

"All right, Xiao Fei, your turn."

Anna smiled.

"Okay."

Lu Fei calmly put his hand on the orb.

But

Seconds passed, and nothing happened.

The lady smiled awkwardly:

"Um… this gentleman seems to have no magic…"

The elf sisters stared in shock.

So that was why he wanted to do the test last?

No magic?

Anna didn't believe it how else could he beat that red-haired pervert?

"Let's wait a bit longer."

Anna replied calmly, full of trust in Lu Fei.

Lu Fei was moved, and acted if the orb didn't take in his magic, he could just inject it himself!

He poured magic in

The crystal orb trembled; a brilliant red light burst out.

The glare made everyone shield their eyes.

"Whoa!"

"So bright!"

"A top-level fire mage?!"

"Or battle aura!"

The lady's jaw dropped, stunned.

Lu Fei felt the orb nearly crack and quickly pulled his hand away.

He had held back, only using fire magic otherwise, showing all elements, the orb might've exploded.

"Sorry, Miss Anna I misjudged before. Your companion has great fire affinity. Suited for warrior or fire mage. Please fill in your info."

"All right."

Lu Fei completed the details, added his blood, and the card fused into his hand.

He was now registered at level 1 for now.

Registering meant they could now do jobs, hunt monsters, earn experience, and level up.

This world was like a game.

Only adventurers could grow stronger.

Lu Fei, feeling the card's magic, noticed changes right away.

If he summoned the card, the info had already changed.

As they prepared to leave, three brawny male adventurers approached.

The leader, a black-haired man, eyed Anna with a heated gaze and smiled.

"Hello. I'm Wick, level 5 adventurer and captain of the Wick party. Interested in joining us? Benefits are great."

Anna smiled slightly her charm made the men dazed.

"Sorry, Captain Wick. My siblings just registered may we have some time to consider?"

"Of course, of course! My apologies, Anna I was too forward. If you want to join, you're always welcome!"

"Thank you. We'll consider. We have things to do please excuse us."

"All right."

Wick's group stared at Anna's figure, some even drooling.

Still, no one dared cause trouble in the guild.

Lu Fei was now a true adventurer the happiest of all was Anna.

For more than ten years, she'd worried about their future.

She wasn't worried for herself: pretty, gifted, and strong. She thought men liked her for her charm fair enough.

Even if adventuring failed, she could marry well.

But Lu Fei… Without magic, he'd always be trampled by those jobs.

How could she bear to leave her closest loved one behind?

During every mission, she worried for him.

She'd endured the advances of Viscount Morgan in hopes of a potion to give him magic.

But today, that fear was gone.

Xiao Fei had magic. And not just any magic the Adventurer Guild confirmed a top-level talent.

He would be her support from now on.

Anna felt gratified.

"Anna, do we need to join another adventurer group?"

While shopping, Amy asked.

"Groups must be pretty big, right?"

Anna shook her head with a smile:

"Calling it a 'group' is just for show. Even a level five can only lead a team of about 30. That's it."

"Really?" Amy gaped, embarrassed.

She thought joining a stronger group was better, since they were all beginners.

Anna had refused Wick, making Amy a little down.

"But level fives are strong! We aren't joining?"

Amy was braver than her sister and asked anxiously for Anna's opinion.

Anna stroked her head:

"Level five is nothing! Don't forget who saved you from danger."

"My Xiao Fei took down a level six adventurer to get us out of there."

"Wha?!"

Amy and Ellie gawked at Lu Fei.

"You're kidding wasn't Lu Fei a brand new adventurer?"

Amy was stunned.

Ellie peeked at Lu Fei and ducked away timidly.

"Why would I lie? All you need to know is that before even registering as an adventurer, my Xiao Fei could beat a level six."

"So there's no need to join others. We just need to do missions, level up to five, and start our own group."

"Joining someone else's team is just working for them and getting squeezed. Plus, did you see those men's eyes? They'd eat you alive in a heartbeat it would be awful."

"Yes, we trust you, Anna!"

The sisters' eyes lit up.

Anna wouldn't trick them.

Still…

They glanced at Lu Fei he didn't seem strong at all.

Lu Fei grinned.

"I'm strong, so Amy and Ellie, you'll be safe with me around!"

"Mm… thank you."

Amy blushed and looked shy.

Anna lifted an eyebrow.

This brat, flirting in front of me?

As they wandered, Lu Fei noticed Lane City was disorderly.

Unlike Kaladia, law and order were lacking.

Scuffles and swordfights broke out at the slightest provocation.

Blood flew at once.

Anna hurried them from the rough areas.

Arriving in a side alley, Anna stopped, unsheathing her sword and facing the alley's entrance.

"Come out, I know you're there."

Five burly, scarred thugs appeared, grinning menacingly and surrounding the four.

"Sister Anna…"

Ellie and Amy huddled close to her, afraid.

"Don't worry, you have Xiao Fei and me."

Anna patted Ellie's head, eyes steeling.

"What do you want?"

Lu Fei stepped forward, shielding the girls behind him and fixing the men with a cold stare.

"Sister Anna, I think they want to die."

"Haha, arrogant brat!"

The scarred leader laughed, brandishing a broadsword along the ground.

"Kid, you may have talent, but you're only level one what can you do?"

"As for the beauty, Anna, and you little elf girls here's your choice. Join our group as our women or else, we won't mind roughing you up."

"Heh heh, we're all level fours!"

Ellie and Amy trembled, blue eyes filled with terror.

This was what mother meant by the evil, elf-eating humans!

So scary!

"Heh, level four so what?"

Lu Fei sneered, "Since you want to die, I'll oblige!"

He raised his right hand and softly intoned:

"Reveal yourself, Esther! Become my blade!"

Vuuum

Holy light swirled into a dragon-printed magic circle on his hand.

A black holy sword was drawn forth!

Amy and Ellie flinched, eyes wide.

That was… an elf blood-weapon!

Feeling the sword's pressure, Scarface sneered and attacked first, swinging his blacksteel blade.

"Empty bravado! This is blacksteel "

But…

Lu Fei simply slashed.

A formless sword energy struck Scarface instantly.

"Crack!"
