Chapter 4 Part 2: The Curse and the Guilds

Wick's eyes went wide in disbelief.

"Five peak level-4 adventurers even I might not be their match. You're telling me they were wiped out?"

"It's true. I checked at the adventurers' guild their records have automatically disappeared!"

For registered adventurers, when they die, their cards automatically drop and vanish.

Also, the guild had a special query device by paying a fee, one could check whether an adventurer was alive.

After all, adventuring was extremely dangerous.

This rule existed so people could confirm whether their relatives were safe.

But if you weren't an adventurer and were a muggle, if you died, then that was it.

If you died in a remote place

Your family might not even find your corpse.

Wick's face turned ashen.

"How is that possible? The strongest in Lane City are our Wick Adventurer Group, and then there's that old man Lawls' so-called Justice Adventurer Group could it be Lawls?"

Losing five level-4 adventurers Wick's group's strength had been cut by more than half.

That enraged Wick.

But as long as he himself, a level-5 elite adventurer, was there, level-4 adventurers were easy to train.

In this world, the most common were adventurers stuck at level 3.

As said before

Blacksteel weapons were expensive.

But to subjugate level-4 or higher magical beasts and break level caps, one must possess a blacksteel weapon that could pierce beast armor.

Thus, what irritated Wick most was the loss of those two blacksteel weapons.

Each worth 100 gold. Losing two meant a huge loss.

"Boss Wick, what now?"

The underling looked nervously at the furious Wick, his body trembling instinctively.

Members of this group had signed contracts with Wick. Until death or paying a buyout of 1,000 gold, they couldn't leave.

If they violated the contract, their adventurer card would explode, turning them into muggles.

Therefore, Wick was like the emperor of this group no one dared disobey.

But this sort of adventurer group, like Kate's, was destined not to last.

Because Wick was too greedy.

After thinking a moment, Wick's expression turned vicious.

"Spread the word tell the rest of the Wick Adventurer Group that for the next month we're taking all low-level commissions. Guard the guild day and night!"

"Make sure others don't take the commissions!"

"Yes, Boss Wick!"

The underling ran off to deliver the orders.

This was why Wick's group was notorious here.

They ran a monopoly.

If you didn't join, Wick wouldn't let you take low-level commissions.

Without low-level commissions, you couldn't gain experience or improve yourself.

Gradually, adventurers wouldn't even have money to eat, and could only join the Wick group, sinking into corruption.

In this situation, resources concentrated in Wick's hands.

Then, to resist the Wick group, a righteous level-5 adventurer named Lawls stood up and formed the Justice Adventurer Group.

The Justice group offered better conditions than Wick's.

For each mission only three parts were turned in; one could keep seven parts oneself.

That was already good.

Think of Kate

As captain he took 50%, his son took 10%, leaving 30% for the rest.

Wick's group was a tad better than Kate's.

For each mission 60% turned in; one could keep 40%.

But the advantage was that Wick didn't block subordinates from leveling once at the level limit, he would immediately form a team to subjugate the corresponding beast.

Of course, not beyond level 6.

He himself was still a level-5 adventurer.

As for the Justice group, because it was formed later, it had fewer members than Wick's only two level-4 adventurers and Lawls, one level-5.

Resources were limited.

Though benefits were good, they couldn't withstand Wick's numbers and oppression.

Therefore

When adventurers from out of town arrived, Wick's people would discover them first and use various methods to pull them into the group and sign contracts.

While Wick plotted, Lu Fei was studying his adventurer card.

It displayed adventurer strength in numerical form.

But his data looked a bit off.

It read:

Adventurer: Lu Fei Level: 1 Class:

Exclusive Magic: Reality Rupture?

(Explosion Magic) (Destruction Magic?)

Strength: 500

Mana: 500

HP: 500

Equipment: Holy Sword Esther

Special Bloodline: King's Blood

Seeing this, Lu Fei's expression turned strange.

According to Anna, a new level-1 adventurer's base attributes were all 100.

Based on pre-registration qualities and magical aptitude, there would be bonuses, increasing the values.

But an initial 500 was absurd.

Also, that "exclusive magic."

A string of question marks.

Perhaps because of his own descriptions, the "Reality Rupture, Explosion Magic" names were reflected.

But it seemed the card couldn't determine exactly what his magic was.

And the special bloodline

He seemed to have been picked up by Anna's father from the forest.

So what was this King's Blood?

Lu Fei immediately told Anna his data.

Anna's expression turned serious.

"Xiao Fei, don't reveal your data to others in the future otherwise you'll be targeted."

"As for this King's Blood, I haven't heard of it. We can only inquire later. But I think it should be beneficial. Perhaps this is why you're so strong."

"Mm, I understand, Sister Anna. Um, can I see your data?"

"Of course."

Lu Fei had trusted her with his data how could she refuse his request?

Anna took out her adventurer card, brought up the data panel, and showed it to him.

Adventurer: Anna

Level: 3 (Reached cap; cannot gain EXP)

Strength: 150

Mana: 400

HP: 15000 (?)

Skills: Elite Swordsmanship, Wind Magic

Finisher: Wind Blade Slash

Seeing this, Lu Fei's mouth fell open.

"Sister Anna, leaving other data aside your HP is so high! Fifteen thousand!"

"I don't know either perhaps it's a gift-related thing? But I don't have a bloodline listed, unlike you," Anna said with a smile.

"I think you likely have a special bloodline too, Sister Anna how else would you attract men so much?"

"You want a beating? How dare you tease your sister?"

Anna glared, pinched his ear, and twisted, as practiced as ever.

"Yowch I was joking, Sister Anna easy, it hurts!"

"Hmph~"

Anna gave him a side-eye and released his ear.

That said

Anna actually felt something was off.

This charm that attracted men felt like a passive succubus skill.

Also, she hid some things.

Adventurer card data could actually hide bits.

"All right, Xiao Fei go rest. Tomorrow we have a beast subjugation. Whether sister can get to level 4 depends on you."

"Don't worry leave it to me!"

Lu Fei replied confidently, hugged her once more, and then turned in.

Watching his increasingly mature back, Anna smiled warmly.

But soon, she sighed.

"A witch's blessing… what trouble."

Anna understood.

As a beautiful woman

Attracting male gazes was normal.

But attracting all men that was absurd.

It made her recall a dream long ago.

In the dream

A woman shrouded in black mist, face indistinct, claimed to be some witch, asking what "love" was.

Anna couldn't answer.

So the faceless witch sighed and said: "Fine. I'll let you search on my behalf. I'll give you the trait of attracting men and until you find your own love, I will watch over you."

"Do your best seek it, protect what is important in your heart. I'll keep watching you. Then… please tell me what is love."

Thinking it over

Anna rubbed her temples.

Was that witch not right in the head?

If she wanted to ask, fine but why impose a man-attracting trait on Anna?

A witch must be a licentious woman.

Not understanding love, she created some man-attracting trait to seduce them?

So, did Xiao Fei like her because of that trait?

If so, what should she do?
