Days turned into weeks and the semester examinations ended. Vacation was due. I packed the things I was to send home and boarded a vehicle after bidding my bestie a safe journey. When I entered the compound and spotted my father on the corridor, my heart skipped a beat. I approached him slowly and greeted him. He responded and asked of my well-being. After a few minutes of talking, I went inside the house.
I went straight to the bathroom to freshen up and come back to pack the things that needed to be packed. I went to the kitchen and prepared something to eat. I came back to the living room to clean up and then went to my room to rest.
Thelma, my half sister came back from school that afternoon and knocked gently on my door. She was still in high school. Though we were not biological sisters, she loved me the way I also loved her. I opened the door and she hugged me tightly, telling me how much she missed me. "I missed you a lot too, my darling sister" I told her. After telling me a few things that happened in school, she left to her own room which was just opposite that of mine.
Later when I was preparing the evening meal, she came to help me and told me everything that happened in the house and community in my absence. I really liked her for that. She really knew how to make me smile. I must admit, I released a lot of stress because of her. I was even close to forgetting I had a problem to deal with. She told me I didn't look well at all. My heart ached and I replied it was school stress.
Days turned into weeks and I became very scared that my dad would find out the truth. I lost appetite just thinking of how to deal with the pregnancy. After thinking hard about it for sometime, I decided to stay strong and face the music.
One Friday morning when I was cleaning the house, I suddenly went blank. When I gained consciousness, I realized I was in the hospital. I knew the day had finally come for me to account to my father. I overheard the doctor telling my dad that I needed to stay in the hospital for sometime.
My heart sunk into my chest when dad opened the door and walked towards me. He impatiently asked when he got close to me, "how did it happen?". I froze for a moment. Tears started welling up in my eyes. When he lost his temper and demanded an answer for the second time, I found my tongue. I told him everything he needed to know. He flew into a rage and stormed out of the ward....
