Jin ran up to the door and placed his hands on it. With his mask, he was able to see the inner workings of the electrical network of the wall, locating the power source of the camera inside the room.
"Listen. Here, here, and there. I want you to use your power to fry the wires in those sections. DO NOT blow up the fucking wall."
Addison felt insulted. "Who do you think I am?"
"Addison Bellmire," Jin responded
"Whatever." Addison focused her energy on the tip of her finger and pressed against the wall where Jin marked.
The wires malfunctioned and melted from the heat, and with the camera disabled inside the records room, Jin unlocked the doors and went inside.
The room was filled with spiraling coils of information that were constantly updated and sent to a main computer, where they were then sorted and organized into specific categories.
"Damn. That's a lot of information." Jin walked around, looking for the terminal where he could access the information in this room. When he found it, he saw that it was password-protected.
"You're up." He said to Addison.
"What?"
"What do you mean, 'What?' Open the terminal."
"I don't know the password."
"Bitch!" Jin took a deep breath. "Is there anyone who works in this department still in the building?"
Addison shrugged. "I don't know the schedules of the workers."
"Okay. I guess I have to hack into the system." Jin plugged into the terminal and ran an algorithm that started to bypass the company's system. "Give it a minute."
While they waited, Jin hacked into the camera system to see if anyone was coming their way.
"Anything out of the ordinary?" She asked
"Nope. Just scientist and engineers doing their job."
Addison pointed at one of the camera screens on Jin's hologram. "That's the warehouse where the piece of technology was stolen. Warehouse number 11."
Jin looked at the moved the camera in the warehouse to see if he could spot anything out of the ordinary, but the only thing he saw was a person doing their job.
"We can check it out later. After we get the information from this place, I wanna go to the security office where the camera footage of that day is stored. It may give us the answers we seek."
BEEP BEEP
Jin looked down and saw that his algorithm had finished bypassing the security system.
"Alright, let's see what went missing." He uploaded every piece of information into his power kit, then had his computer search for anything that went missing in the past 48 hours.
Thousands of logs were scrubbed through, but after two minutes, his computer found something.
"Found it." Jin pressed his fingers together, then separated his hands, revealing a holographic screen of the item that went missing.
Both of them were confused by what they were seeing. What was stolen was a normal device that was very common in this world.
"A power dampener?" Jin didn't know why the brotherhood would steal a power dampener, but there had to be a reason for that.
"Maybe this one is the latest model? It's in the form of a rifle this time." Addison knew that some power dampeners didn't work on stronger people, so the technology kept updating every year.
"Maybe." Jin took a look at the schematics, and everything looked normal, all but one part of it. "Wait a minute. Do you see this?" He pointed at what he was talking about.
"What is it?"
"Something that is not supposed to be in a power dampener. It's a DNA splicer, but it's coded to be a...well, to put it in terms you can understand, a DNA destroyer."
Addison knew enough about DNA to understand that having your DNA destroyed was a bad thing. "But why is it in a power dampener?"
"Based on the way this is created, the energy blast from the rifle will send a current of electricity that targets the DNA of a woman, specifically the DNA that carries their powers. Addison, this device will permanently take someone's power away."
The gravity of the situation became extremely heavy and dangerous.
"My mother was developing something like this?" She couldn't believe that her mother would create a device that would strip a part of someone's being away.
"According to these notes, the woman affected will still retain their basic body enhancements. So the abilities you get after your first metamorphosis, your strength, durability, enhanced senses, and so on, are safe. But your second metamorphosis will be completely erased."
Addison didn't even want to think about this anymore. "Let's go to the security room."
The trip to the security room was easier than the trip to the records room. Not a lot of people were around, and since it was nighttime on a weekend, nearly everyone was off, and the security focused on places that could be a potential security breach.
Jin released a gas from his power kit that knocked the two guards out, allowing them to enter the room and download the footage from the night of the robbery.
"Thank the goddess that this secrecy system is connected to the main server of the company. The footage was deleted, so I had to pull it out of the restricted section where only people like your mom have access to."
"Sweet. Now let's get out of here." Addion grabbed Jin and then stormed out of the building, retracing their steps at high speeds so they wouldn't get caught.
Back on the roof, Jin released nanobots into the air.
Addison furrowed her brows, not understanding what Jin was doing. "What are those for?"
"The nano bots will restore and repair any damage that we did. This way, it will look like everything is perfectly fine, and the system simply malfunctioned. Technology failing is normal."
"Smart."
"Okay, now let's scrub through this footage." Jin pulled up the video from the day of the robbery.
A man was organizing equipment in the warehouse, making sure everything was in the right place.
"That's the same scientist we saw today." Addison pointed out.
"Yup. Looks like he works in this warehouse." Jin scrubbed further and resumed at a point that shocked himself and Addison.
