Chapter 23 - Do I have to file papers?

A month had passed since Jin joined the Aegis Corps Institute, and it was the start of his second month at the place. He had gotten used to not being at home, the school routines, and the constant angry glares and cat calls.

Also, for some reason, when Angela was frustrated, she would aggressively kiss Jin in some hidden corner of the institute and apologize afterward.

Being the simp he was, Jin had no problem with this. He liked an aggressive woman when it came to lovemaking. Perks of being from a patriarchal world? Probably not.

"Today, we'll assign your after-school duties. Your schedules will change. Morning workouts will include breaks for breakfast and rest. Afternoons and evenings will be for your jobs, and you'll study on your own or wait for the weekend, which is off-limits for work. You are young, so you still need rest. Nights remain the same," Mrs. Horton announced.

'Great, another schedule change. I wonder what after-school job I'll get. Please let it be something like working for a rich woman and cooking her dinner or something. Then she'll have me massage her body and...what is wrong with me?'

"Check your bracelets. All information has been given to you."

Jin checked his bracelet, and what he read made his world come crashing down. 'Aurora City Police Department aid? Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Why is this happening to me? Why couldn't I have been a library assistant or something?'

"Yes! I'll be a library assistant as my job!" An initiate shouted.

'Fuck off!'

"Aw, man. I have to go to the military?"

"Sweet! I get to work with Vanguards!"

"Is it normal to get a job where I have to clean the sewers?"

"What did you get, Jin?" Ever since their conversation, Addison became friendly with Jin. She didn't see him as someone on her level; she believed that Jin was the best of the men from their generation, and that was enough to be recognized by her.

"I gotta work with the police." He grumbled.

"That's not too bad. I'm working with the Vanguards."

"That's neat. I wonder why I'm not working the the guardians, though. Not that I care."

Addison shrugged. "Maybe they thought that you weren't needed there. For the past month, you were only given praise for everything you did. The instructors probably put you there to work with the police to have you do something."

"That's what I assumed as well. Whatever, can't do anything about it."

For the rest of the morning, Jin continued with his workouts and training until it was time to head to the police department.

An SUV came to pick Jin and three other students up, the rest of them being girls. Like every vehicle in this world, the SUV was a hovercraft and didn't have any wheels.

"You four here for the jobs down at the station?" The woman driver asked.

The four of them nodded.

"Hop on in."

On their way to the station, the woman explained how things would go.

"First, the four of you will be assigned to different officers. You'll patrol together, stop crime together, and respond to calls as if you were part of the department. I shouldn't have to tell you to follow your assigned officer and stay out of trouble, but I am anyway. Any questions?"

Jin raised his hand.

"Yes, young man?"

"Do I have to file paperwork?"

"Hahahahaha! What an amazing question! This is the first time someone has asked me this question. Yes, you will have to do some paperwork."

'Dammit.'

"We're here."

After arriving at the police station, four officers were waiting to introduce themselves to their new partners for the next few months.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Officer Yuria Qutesh. You can just call me Yuria."

"Nice to meet you, too. I'm Jin Telegard. You can call me Jin."

'You know, maybe coming here wasn't such a bad choice.' Jin was oggling Yuria's nice pair of boobs. She was also a very beautiful woman, rocking clear hair, clear eyes, and...wait, he didn't look at her face yet.

Jin looked up to see what she actually looked like.

She had short black hair, black lipstick, and an hourglass figure, but with muscles. A crazy combination.

"Ready to get to work?" She asked with a smile

"No. But let's go it anyway."

"I like your honesty. Come with me, I don't think showing you around the precinct will be as interesting as catching a bad guy on the streets, am I right?"

"I guess."

"Here, put this on." She tossed Jin a jacket to show everyone that he was working with the police department alongside a temporary badge.

"Sweet. I'm legit."

"Sure are. Now let's catch some baddies."

She and Jin had two different interpretations for the word 'baddie,' but he went along with her version.

Yuria and Jin rode around the city looking for crime. They went through good parts of town, neutral parts, and even bad parts, but there was nothing happening at the moment.

Still, they continued to drive around to see if there was at least one lawbreaker.

"So, how are you liking the Aegis Corps Institute?" She asked to make conversation.

"It's okay. I didn't really care to go, but I was 'convinced'."

"I read your file, and you are a rare gem. You should strive for greatness."

"Everyone has their own definition of greatness. Yours could be the work of a Policewoman, while mine could be relaxing in a hot tub."

"Heh, I guess that's true. But I'm glad you're at least trying to put your skills to good use."

After years of putting his skills to good use, Jin just wanted to relax. "I guess."

Just then, a truck carrying four masked individuals—two in the bed—sped past, running a red light. Another car followed, then another, each occupant wearing a mask.

All four cars ran red lights, putting others in danger. But to make matters worse, the people in the truck, who were all men, pulled out a laser cannon and blasted one car into oblivion.

"Go time?" Jin asked

"You know it!" Yuria turned on her lights and sirens and sped off to catch the crazy bastards.
