Adrian sat by the bedside a while longer than he expected. Seeing her sleep peacefully brought an untold relief to him.
His once tensed shoulders sagged with relief.
His calendar blinked with relief that several markings wouldn't be made in it as a reminder.
Rather, this time, he had to rest as much as he could.
If he were asked to narrate how his days had been from the moment she fell unconscious, the answer would be painfully simple.
"Barely survived."
That's because these past few days had always come and gone in the blur of a stretch of time.
The only difference between them was that Adrian could walk, breathe, and issue commands, while Stella lay unmoving—trapped in unconsciousness.
Each day he just survived because he hadn't been called into the afterlife.
Other times it was him chiding himself to be strong and wait for her to wake up. All in all, he was happy he had gone this far.
