Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Saiyan Race Has Quite the Heritage, Doesn’t It?

Time passed swiftly—before anyone realized it, a month had already gone by.

During that time, with Beerus himself serving as his sparring partner, Gran completely stabilized his power.

His battle power now stood at one billion, his mental state had reached the half–Ultra Ego level, and his body instinct had advanced to the first stage.

What Gran didn't know, however, was that his dimensional level had already reached the pinnacle of the Kaiō Realm.

Whis hadn't told him that—because the time wasn't right yet.

Once Gran returned to the Realm of Destruction for his next stage of training, that truth would be revealed to him.

Today marked Gran's second year in the Dragon Ball world, and also his second year in the Realm of Destruction—and the day of his departure.

Dressed in the traditional robes of a God of Destruction, the small figure of Gran stood solemnly before Beerus's temple.

With farewell drawing near, the atmosphere felt heavy and subdued.

"Lord Beerus… I'll be leaving now," Gran said softly, his small face filled with reluctance.

"Then hurry up and get lost," Beerus replied flatly. "Without you around, my Realm of Destruction will finally be quiet again. Maybe I can finally get some proper sleep!"

"You…"

Gran gritted his teeth. "You're unbelievable, Lord Beerus! Here I was thinking of saying something nice before I left, but you—!"

Then, his eyes flicked mischievously. "Fine! Since you're so eager to get rid of me, I won't bring you any gifts next time. I'll only bring something for Whis!"

He'd be heading to Earth soon—and he was already planning to pack a few hundred million servings of instant noodles.

After all, in the anime, both Beerus and Whis were absolutely obsessed with that stuff.

Whis's eyes brightened at the word gift. Knowing Gran, it had to be food.

He turned and gave Beerus a playful, provoking glance, as if to say: Keep acting tough—looks like you're the one missing out this time.

Beerus's ears twitched. He glared at Whis, then barked at Gran, "You brat—don't you dare!"

"You already said you don't want me around. Why should I bring you anything?"

"You—!"

Beerus stopped mid-sentence, sighed, and muttered, "Just… be careful out there. If you run into someone you absolutely can't beat, remember—you can always call me."

With that, he turned around and went back into the palace.

Typical tsundere. Saying a single kind word was like pulling teeth—but Gran's heart still warmed.

He stood there for a long moment before finally saying, "Whis, let's go."

"Your first destination is Planet Yardrat, right?"

"Yes."

"Alright. It won't take long."

Whis lightly tapped his staff, and the two of them turned into a streak of seven-colored light, soaring into the heavens.

One minute later.

Whis returned to the front of the palace once more.

But this time, Beerus was already standing there again.

"Hmm?"

Whis smiled knowingly. "Lord Beerus, didn't you say you were going to sleep?"

"Mind your own business."

Beerus rolled his eyes. "Did you get him to Planet Yardrat safely?"

"Oh-ho-ho~ So you are worried about him, Lord Beerus. Trying to act indifferent again?" Whis chuckled behind his hand.

"Cut the nonsense. I asked you a question—did you send him there or not?"

"Yes, yes, he's there," Whis replied, his tone softening as he dropped the teasing. "That boy's first stop is Yardrat. He's probably planning to learn their Instant Transmission technique."

"Instant Transmission?"

"Yes. It's a skill developed by the Yardratians—similar to the Kaiōshin's teleportation, but with a key difference. To use it, one must sense another's ki."

"I see."

Beerus nodded. He could already guess why Gran wanted to learn it.

Without Whis by his side, Instant Transmission would be a convenient way to travel—and a good safety measure, too.

Whis raised his staff and gazed up at the endless sky. "Lord Beerus, it's rather impressive, isn't it? In just two years of training here, without ever leaving the Realm of Destruction, he somehow knew about Yardrat and its Instant Transmission technique."

"Hmph, obviously!"

Beerus crossed his arms. "You think a guy who mastered his power completely in just two years—reached one billion battle power, attained half–Ultra Ego, and awakened his body's first-level instinct—is simple?"

Whis shook his head. "That's not what I meant, Lord Beerus. You know what I'm getting at."

"..."

Beerus clenched his fists. "So what if I do? All I care about is that he's my disciple."

Whis paused, then chuckled slyly. "Oh-ho-ho~ True enough. But he's also my disciple, remember?"

"Besides," he added with a knowing look, "didn't he say the reason he knows all these things is because he read about them in the Saiyan Chronicles?"

At that, Beerus frowned. "Right… I was meaning to ask. When you first mentioned those 'Saiyan Chronicles,' you looked pretty serious. What's the deal with that? Are the Saiyans hiding something big?"

The area before the temple fell silent.

Three minutes passed.

Finally, Whis spoke, his tone thoughtful. "I might be remembering it wrong… but when I was very, very young, I think I once heard my father mention—a man who challenged the Omni-King."

"What?!"

Beerus's eyes widened in shock.

The Omni-King—the supreme being of all universes, the absolute ruler of existence—and someone challenged him?! That was absurd. Impossible.

"Wait!"

Beerus swallowed hard. "Don't tell me you're saying that person was… a Saiyan?"

If that were true, then it made perfect sense why the Saiyan race would have a historical record filled with so many hidden truths.

"My memory's hazy," Whis admitted, shaking his head. "I'm not sure. I'll have to ask my father about it when I return."

Beerus fell silent again.

Finally, he exhaled, muttering, "If you remember anything, let me know… I'm going to sleep."

He turned to leave—then paused, looking back at Whis with rare seriousness.

"And Whis… if that brat ever runs into danger—wake me up immediately."

"Yes, Lord Beerus."

Whis bowed lightly, suppressing a smile.

Only then did Beerus retreat back into his temple, the doors closing behind him.
