It was the fourth month of her pregnancy, and a small baby bump was beginning to show on Hauen's stomach. That morning, she stood in front of the mirror, gently rubbing her bump. A soft smile spread across her face. "My baby," she whispered. She flexed a little, feeling a strange mix of excitement and tenderness.
A knock on the door made her jump slightly. She quickly adjusted her top and called, "Come in."
Suho peeked in, smiling. "Hauena… we have an appointment today. Be ready by evening, I'll come to pick you up."
Hauen smiled brightly. "Okay," she said, a little flutter in her chest.
Suho noticed her happiness. "What's the matter? You seem really cheerful today."
Hauen bit her lip, blushing slightly. "Nothing… just…" she murmured, smiling softly.
Suho chuckled and nodded. "Alright. Be ready, okay? I'll see you in the evening."
She nodded, and he left, leaving her standing there with a small, happy sigh, her hand resting gently on her growing bump.
As soon as he left, Hauen lifted her top again, gazing at her small baby bump. She flexed a little, smiling at the tiny life growing inside her.
"Hauenaa....," Suho's voice suddenly called, and before she could react, he had opened the door again. He froze instantly, his eyes unintentionally landing on her baby bump.
Hauen quickly fixed her top, cheeks flushing.
"Umm… I'm sorry… I just… the doctor said you should drink plenty of water before going to the hospital," he said, awkward and slightly flustered.
She nodded, still a little embarrassed. Suho gave a small, faint smile, his gaze lingering for a moment longer than he intended. Then, clearing his throat, he left, closing the door behind him.
Hauen exhaled, flopping onto the bed and hiding her face, completely flustered.
Meanwhile, Suho walked down the hallway, rubbing the back of his neck, a goofy smile on his face. He didn't know why, but he felt an irresistible urge to properly touch her bump, to feel the baby moving. Shaking his head, he laughed softly at himself, still grinning like a fool, before heading to the office.
By evening, Suho arrived at the penthouse and picked Hauen up for the hospital. The car ride was casual, filled with light chatter, but Suho's eyes kept wandering toward her baby bump. Hauen noticed it, but said nothing, letting him steal little glances.
At the hospital, the doctor greeted them warmly. "Hello!"
"Hello," Suho and Hauen replied together.
"How are you doing, Mrs. Kim?" the doctor asked sweetly.
"I'm good," Hauen smiled.
"Very good," the doctor nodded, smiling back as she settled into her chair. "Since you're in your fourth month… I have a little surprise for you both," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Suho and Hauen exchanged glances, their hearts racing with anticipation. The doctor smiled at them.
"Actually, today we're doing your baby's ultrasound," she said. "You'll get to hear your baby's heartbeat."
Suho felt his heart skip a beat. Hauen's eyes widened, and she beamed. "Really? We can hear the baby's heartbeat?" she asked, almost in disbelief.
The doctor nodded. "Yes, come along. Every couple waits eagerly for this beautiful, exciting moment."
Suho glanced at the doctor, a little hesitant. "Me too?"
The doctor chuckled warmly. "Yes, Mr. Kim. Don't you want to see your baby moving?"
Suho's legs suddenly felt weak. He steadied himself on the table, his heart pounding. Hauen chuckled softly at his reaction.
The doctor guided them into the ultrasound room, the air filled with nervous excitement and anticipation.
The doctor prepared everything and asked Hauen to lie down. She did so, while Suho sat beside her, visibly overwhelmed. The doctor gently adjusted Hauen's top, revealing her baby bump.
Suho's eyes immediately fell on it, burning with emotion he couldn't contain. The doctor applied the transparent gel on Hauen's abdomen and carefully moved the Doppler device over her belly.
As she moved it, a black-and-white image appeared on the monitor. Suho's breath hitched. Hauen smiled, watching the tiny fetus move, and then the faint sound of the heartbeat filled the room through the speaker.
It was overwhelming for both of them.
"Can you hear that?" the doctor asked.
Both nodded, their eyes wide with awe.
"That's the heartbeat… your little one, growing inside," the doctor said gently.
A tear slipped down Suho's cheek. He was so emotional that Hauen froze, unable to believe how vulnerable and touched he looked.
The doctor smiled gently. "Mr. Kim, calm down. I know… It's beautifully overwhelming," she said.
Hauen chuckled softly, teasing him. "Don't cry, Suho… if the baby sees you crying, it'll laugh at you. Do you want that?"
A small laugh escaped his lips, and Hauen smiled warmly at him. And then, slowly, she took his hand and placed it over her bump, letting him feel their baby. Her eyes blinked at him reassuringly, and he returned her gaze with a smile full of love.
With immense care and affection, he touched her belly, his happiness uncontainable. Then, suddenly, he bent down and pressed a gentle kiss to her bump, showering their child with love.
Hauen's eyes burned with emotion. She blinked rapidly, overwhelmed by the beauty of the moment.
The doctor smiled quietly, watching them experience something new and deeply special together.
Suho stayed like that for a few more minutes, watching the screen and gently caressing Hauen's belly.
"Alright, you'll get a recorded copy of this moment. You can watch it whenever you want," the doctor said with a smile.
Suho nodded, still holding Hauen's hand. He didn't know why, but he didn't want to let go.
They returned to the desk. Suho's hands remained firmly in hers as the doctor spoke.
"So far, the baby is healthy and growing perfectly. From now on, growth will be faster and more vulnerable. Be careful while moving, sleeping, or bending, as it could affect the baby. And Mr. Kim, make sure she eats well, rests properly, and doesn't stress," the doctor said gently.
Hauen nodded, and Suho smiled. "Don't worry, doctor. I'll take care of her."
Hauen looked at him, and a warm, comforting feeling spread through her. The doctor smiled knowingly. "I know, Mr. Kim."
After prescribing medications and a diet chart, the doctor sent them off. They left the hospital overflowing with happiness, love, and hope for the journey ahead.
The car ride was peaceful. Suho's eyes were on the road, but his mind lingered on that tiny soul growing inside Hauen. A soft, unshakable smile kept tugging at his lips, he looked like an idiot in love.
Hauen noticed it and chuckled. "You look so happy," she said.
Suho glanced at her, slightly flustered. "I am. I just… can't even put it into words. Damn, what a beautiful experience," he said honestly, his voice low and full of awe.
"I know," she replied, smiling at him. "It's overwhelming for me too."
He smiled again, his heart light.
After a pause, she looked at him and said softly, "If you want to feel the baby… don't hesitate."
He turned to her, surprised. She smiled gently. "You were dying to touch the bump, but you kept holding back. It's your child, Suho. Your heartbeat. You have every right to touch it, feel it, even talk to it. Don't be hesitant."
Her words melted something inside him. He smiled, a little emotional. "Thank you," he said quietly.
She smiled back. "Mention not, Mr. Kim."
He laughed under his breath, still smiling like a fool as he drove on, one hand on the wheel, and another he gently placed on her bump. She smiled, and his heart completely wrapped around the two souls sitting beside him.
"I should tell this to Yerin, she'll be so happy to hear it. I'll also show her the footage," Suho said excitedly.
Hauen's heart sank for a moment, but she forced a smile. "Yes, she'll be really happy."
Suho grinned. "Let's call her tonight. We should celebrate this together." He quickly dialed Yerin's number and put the call on speaker.
"Yes, baby?" Yerin answered.
"Yerina, come to the penthouse! I have a surprise for you," he said, full of excitement.
"Surprise? What is it?" she asked curiously.
"I told you, it's a surprise. Just come and you'll find out," he said, smiling.
"Okay, I'll come," Yerin replied.
"Alright, I'm driving right now. See you at home. Bye, I love yo—"
Before he could finish, a huge truck suddenly slammed into their car. Everything turned upside down.
"SUHO…!" That was the last word Yerin heard before the line went dead, followed by the sound of a terrible crash.
