Chapter 245 - Chapter 71: I Will Report Personally to the Tower Master

  "Is it over?"

Wang Zhi stared blankly at the fallen Psychic Zombie in the distance.

The other Zombies, having lost their control due to the leader's fall, began aimlessly attacking nearby living humans like headless flies.

The previously frenzied Zombies quieted down somewhat as a result.

Seeing their enemy leader fall, the morale of the survivors soared, and their previously slow pace quickened.

This news spread back into the Ready Room. Wei Changzheng was utterly shocked; he couldn't believe that the Giant Zombie, which even the City Lord couldn't handle, had been defeated right when he returned?!

The remaining survivors, hearing the news that the Giant Zombie was defeated, saw a renewed spark of hope in their dim eyes.

In the corner, Tang Qilin, after finishing bandaging Fu Ling's leg wound, also showed a slight smile; he seemed to already know who had defeated the Psychic Zombie.

-Bang!

Although Captain Wang's hand, which had been cut by a blade, was slowly beginning to heal and stop bleeding, the others were still worried about an accident happening to Captain Wang and the other person, so they sent You Luo and her subordinates over.

"Are you all alright?" You Luo replaced the empty magazine and asked nervously.

"We're fine! Let's meet up quickly and guard the Psychic Zombie's corpse so those ordinary zombies can't keep feeding on it!" Captain Wang said, running toward Su Muying and the others' position.

"Sister Ying, those two moves just now were incredible!" Fatty complimented Su Muying while attacking the surrounding zombies.

"Want to learn? I can teach you." Su Muying's figure weaved back and forth through the horde of zombies.

"No, no need. It's enough for me just to watch a scene like this. Let Captain Wang learn instead."

By now, the thick fog had largely dissipated. They could see the zombies within a hundred meters clearly. Duan He and his companion had already shot down all the zombies in front of them, providing cover for the five members of Captain Wang's group running toward them.

After Captain Wang ran up, he headed straight for the Psychic Zombie's head and declared, "I really want to see what kind of stuff is packed inside this thing's head!"

Just as Captain Wang was about to pull out his two blades, he noticed the Psychic Zombie's head was still emitting a low growl, its blood-red eyes fixed on him.

Captain Wang sensed something was wrong and quickly pulled back his leg. The instant he pulled his leg away, the mouth of the massive head before him snapped shut.

*Crack!* The immense closing force produced a crisp sound, startling Captain Wang backward a few steps.

"This thing isn't completely dead yet?" Captain Wang muttered to himself.

"Ying! The blade, quick!" Captain Wang shouted to Ying, who was nearby.

Captain Wang took the Ye Linglong blade from Ying, gripping it firmly with both hands. He positioned it over the exact center of the Psychic Zombie's head, and like chopping a watermelon, he raised the blade and brought it down!

-*Thwack!* After three strikes, it seemed even the skull hadn't cracked.

"Hiss~ Ying, this blade needs replacing; it's too dull." Captain Wang observed the Ye Linglong.

"It's because you don't know how to use it."

Ying said this, took the blade, and directly stabbed it into the back of the Psychic Zombie's head. Then she frowned slightly and said, "I think I just stabbed the Crystal Core..."

"...It's fine. Anyway, its head has probably been smashed open countless times; the Crystal Core is likely already shattered." Captain Wang comforted her.

"Hey! What are you standing around daydreaming for! There are still so many zombies to clear!" Su Muying's voice carried over from a distance.

"Coming! Forget it, Jia Liuli, let's leave this head for the people of Dawn City to deal with slowly." Wang Zhi said, carefully moving behind the head and quickly drawing out his two blades.

--

The area surrounding the Ready Room was littered with corpses, leaving no space to reconstruct the wire mesh. To exit the Ready Room, one had to step over countless masses of flesh, inhaling the disgusting stench!

Their only mission now was to clear out all the zombies within Dawn City and then slowly dispose of the bodies. This was a monumental task; thousands of corpses could not be dealt with in a short time.

To ensure the City Lord's safety, Jie Xi had already been moved to a private room within the Ready Room. Jie Xi was lying on a sofa, already unconscious. Wei Changzheng assigned three squad captains to personally guard Jie Xi, while he himself had already contacted headquarters and was now heading to the City Lord's Palace with a few guards to escort Director Sophie over.

Wang Zhi watched as the battle situation stabilized and breathed a sigh of relief. As long as no other accidents occurred, Dawn City could still survive.

June 28, 2026, 1:00 AM, strong winds.

This battle had lasted for six hours. The highly tense and exciting emotions had made people forget hunger and thirst. Although the situation had improved, people's emotions were still hard to calm down. This was the most terrifying scene they had ever witnessed; the ground beneath their feet seemed completely saturated with blood.

"Section Chief Sophie! How is the City Lord?!" After Wei Changzheng brought everyone to transfer Jie Xi to the medical bay, he anxiously asked Sophie while following her.

"Severe physical exhaustion, multiple muscle strains. She needs a period of rest. There is no immediate danger to her life, rest assured," Sophie said coldly.

Although Sophie said this on the surface, she was inwardly extremely displeased. Although she didn't know why Jie Xi had ended up in this state, seeing Wei Changzheng and the others standing before Jie Xi as if nothing had happened was enough to show that their protective duties had failed miserably.

"Good... good! A Feng, you and An Qing take your subordinates and guard here! Section Chief Sophie, if there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now!"

"Mmm, I will report this matter to the Tower Master personally." After Sophie finished speaking, she turned and entered the sickroom.

Wei Changzheng paused, then quickly left. After something like this happened, whether it was his fault or not, he bore responsibility.

Back then, he must have been muddled to listen to Jie Xi and go escort Wang Zhi! He couldn't guarantee anything else, but if Jie Xi had suffered any accident this time, he was certain the Tower Master would absolutely not spare anyone in Dawn City!

'Captain Wang, how long are we supposed to guard here? Why don't we just burn it and go back to sleep?" Fatty pointed at the Psychic Zombie on the ground.

"We can't burn it. This one has research value," Wang Zhi stated.

"i didn't expect the blood inside your body to be such a treasure!" At this moment, You Luo came over, patted Wang Zhi's shoulder, and laughed.

Wang Zhi found a completely dead Zombie, sat down hard on its back, and said, "I was gambling too, betting on what effect it would have on the Zombies. It seems now that the N Organization wants the blood inside me to match the agent that eradicates these Zombies! The components in my blood are only part of what kills this virus, so the effect isn't perfect. Once a match is successful, it will be much simpler to eliminate these Mutant Species in the future!"
