Chapter 244 - Chapter 70: Blood and Tears

Inside the Ready Room, the assembled guards and survivors all felt a measure of confusion watching Wei Changzheng laughing maniacally.

"Has our Captain finally lost his mind?"

One guard whispered to the person beside him.

'Shh... How could the Captain go mad."

"It's over, it's over. Even the Guard Team has given up."

"We're doomed! No, I have to go confess to my goddess."

'are you looking to get beaten up? She's from a Level Three Team."

"We're all going to die anyway, what do I have to be afraid of?"

Just as everyone was in chaotic despair, Wei Changzheng suddenly stopped his wild laughter and stood motionless with a blank expression.

Since Wang Zhi and his group had disappeared without a trace, he no longer needed to follow Jie Xi's order to lead everyone back to the Dawn Tower.

"Everyone!" Wei Changzheng grabbed the loudspeaker and shouted to everyone inside.

"Right now, the Town Master is outside fighting those Zombies alone! I don't care if you fear death, but this is our last home, we have nowhere left to retreat! We must defend our home! No matter the cost, today's battle must be fought as if facing death! Everyone! Charge with me!"

Wei Changzheng roared, threw the loudspeaker to the ground, raised his long sword, and charged out.

The moment the Ready Room doors opened, countless Zombies swarmed toward Wei Changzheng. He glanced back; only a few guards and a small number of survivors followed him. But it didn't matter; this did nothing to shake his resolve to break through the siege and help Jie Xi escape the predicament.

Some hid silently in corners, some were seriously wounded, and others used the excuse of caring for injured team members.

"Even at this stage, they are still clinging to life and fearing death. It's truly disgusting1' An Qing looked at the indifferent survivors with disgust, then turned and ran out.

--

Jie Xi stared at the Psychic Zombie before her. Her vision was beginning to blur. Even with medication supporting her, her physical strength had reached its limit. The endless stream of ordinary Zombies distracted her, preventing her from focusing on the Psychic Zombie.

Whoosh! A giant hand descended from the sky. Jie Xi raised her greatsword, using all her strength to hold up the massive hand that was missing a finger.

Pfft! The immense force shook Jie Xi's body, and blood slowly dripped from her chin onto her armor.

Immediately after, another giant hand attacked from her side. Jie Xi's pupils constricted; she was already exerting maximum effort supporting the hand above and had no strength left.

Bang! The giant hand slammed Jie Xi away, her figure tracing an arc through the air.

She looked at the group breaking through from the Ready Room in the distance, preparing to evacuate, and smiled with relief, before crashing heavily to the ground, her mask falling off as well.

At this moment, Jie Xi's face was deathly pale, her mouth smeared with blood. Enduring intense pain, she propped herself up with the greatsword. She had to hold on until the very last second; she knew that every second she persisted would save several lives.

However, Jie Xi was now at the end of her tether, unable to fend off the constantly surging Zombies.

"Mother... I'm sorry..." Jie Xi murmured to herself, placing the greatsword against her neck. She wanted to use her last bit of strength to ensure she died whole.

"Ah!"

Just as Jie Xi fell into despair, shouts echoed from a distance. She turned her head to see Wei Changzheng leading a group of people, charging toward her side.

"City Lord, hold on!"

Jie Xi looked at Wei Changzheng's figure within the crowd but failed to spot wang Zhi and his team. A look of resignation crossed her face.

"Jie Xi!"

Hearing that voice, Jie Xi startled. It was a voice she knew too well. Wang Zhi's voice came from the south. Jie Xi immediately turned to look; Wang Zhi and his ten companions were running over from the south.

Seeing everyone, Jie Xi slowly lowered the greatsword from her neck. She was deeply moved, yet simultaneously disheartened. This Psychic zombie was simply beyond their ability to handle; their arrival meant they were just coming to sacrifice themselves alongside her.

Wang Zhi ran at full speed. When he saw Jie Xi holding the sword to her own neck, he truly panicked. He shouted out, gripping his own blade with his left hand until the entire surface was stained red with blood.

"Let me do it!" Su Muying snatched the blood-soaked blade from Wang Zhi's hand and charged toward the Psychic Zombie's rear at top speed.

*Whoosh!* The Ejection Grappling Hook embedded itself in the Psychic Zombie's shoulder, and with the rope retracting, Su Muying leaped.

*Slash!* While airborne, Su Muying perfectly plunged her blade into the Psychic Zombie's skull, then landed swiftly, leaving only the blade lodged in its head.

Roar!! Roar!! The Psychic Zombie continued to bellow loudly, seemingly in great pain. All the Zombies throughout Dawn City that heard the roar turned their heads and started running toward the Psychic Zombie's location.

"Jie Xi!" Wang Zhi ran all the way to Jie Xi's side. Seeing her condition, Wang Zhi's heart ached, and he immediately scooped her up, running toward the main body of troops in the Ready Room.

Jie Xi currently lacked the strength to speak. She weakly looked at everything around her, her arm draped limply over Wang Zhi's neck.

Jia Liuli was clearing a path ahead for Wang Zhi.

"Captain Wang, it really worked! That Psychic Zombie looks like it's trying to flee!" Fatty shouted over the radio.

"Can you stop it?" Wang Zhi asked.

"I don't know! But it seems very weak," Old He replied.

"Good! You all be careful, wait for me!" Wang Zhi finished, and continued running forward.

"Wang Zhi?! Is the City Lord alright?" Wei Changzheng asked in shock, looking at Wang Zhi running toward him with Jie Xi in his arms.

"Captain Wei! Jie Xi is fine! You take her for treatment first; I need to go back!" Wang Zhi said, handing Jie Xi over to Wei Changzheng.

"Hold on! The City Lord commanded me to escort you back to the Dawn Tower!" Wei Changzheng called out to Wang Zhi.

Hearing Wei Changzheng's words, Wang Zhi paused, his fists clenching tighter. Jie Xi's final dying order was actually for Wei Changzheng to escort him back to the Dawn Tower, yet he was still thinking of escaping this place. Realizing this, Wang Zhi charged with all his might toward the Psychic Zombie.

Since his blood could affect the zombies, he would repeat his previous trick.

"Sister Ying, another strike!" Wang Zhi shouted over the radio, drawing his White Blade, this time switching to grip it with his right hand.

Blood once again stained the blade red. He returned to their previous position and rejoined Ying.

Su Muying took the blade. This time, the Psychic Zombie's movements and reactions were much slower than before. Su Muying's second strike was smoother and more spectacular than the first!

One black blade and one white blade pierced the Psychic Zombie's head.

The Psychic Zombie tried to raise its hand to pull out the blades stuck in its head, but unfortunately, its arms could no longer lift; it could only slowly drag itself toward the city gate.

"Why hasn't it fallen yet?!" Duan Qingtian exclaimed, watching the Psychic Zombie that refused to collapse.

"Its arms can't lift anymore! Everyone aim for its shoulders!" Su Muying commanded, once again embedding her Grappling Hook into the Psychic Zombie's shoulder.

"Chop its entire head off!" Duan Qingtian shouted, already swinging his sword.

The group ceaselessly struck the Psychic Zombie's shoulders with their weapons, like sawing down a tree, finally severing it at the neck.

Boom1 The ten-meter tall body crashed heavily onto the ground! The crowd looked at the fallen Giant Zombie in the distance, but there were no smiles on their faces.

In this battle, some had lost comrades, and others were severely wounded. They looked at the messy surroundings and the still-wandering, confused Zombies that had lost their control; they could not smile. The immense hardship, the blood and tears, had already overshadowed the joy of victory!
