Outside the Ready Room, rivers of blood flowed, and corpses littered the ground. One hundred Guards and survivors were still struggling bitterly outside.
"Everyone, listen up! All retreat inside the Ready Room! Seal the entrance!" Wei Changzheng shouted as he ran back from a distance.
Seeing their Guard Team Captain arrive, everyone rekindled a sliver of hope, immediately obeying the command, covering each other as they retreated into the Ready Room.
Returning to the Ready Room, Wei Changzheng quickly moved through the crowd, searching for Wang Zhi.
"Wang Zhi! Has anyone seen Wang Zhi and his team?!" Wei Changzheng grabbed the megaphone and shouted through the crowd.
Hearing Wei Changzheng's voice, no one replied; they only remained silent and trembling in the corners. They knew their chances were slim; a giant still waited outside to hunt them down.
"We... we saw them...."
Five people stepped out from the crowd; the one leading them was Long Yi. Just moments ago, one of Long Yi's team members had not returned alive.
"Where are they!?" Wei Changzheng, hearing someone had seen them, immediately rushed forward to ask.
"Before the second wave of fighting, I saw them leave after resupplying. They haven't come back yet..." Long Yi said, lowering his head.
"Haven't come back?!" Wei Changzheng's eyes widened. He understood perfectly that everyone who had been fighting outside just moments ago had already withdrawn inside. If they hadn't returned, it meant they were likely lying among thousands of dead **Zombie** corpses outside.
Wei Changzheng froze on the spot. The task Jie Xi had finally entrusted him with-had it failed before it even began?
"Heh heh... Hahahaha!"
Suddenly, Wei Changzheng began to laugh on the spot, as if driven mad.
--
The wind scattered the hair Jie Xi had pinned up; the greatsword in her hand, though stained with blood, still gleamed sharply.
After slaying the last **Zombie** before her, Jie Xi retrieved a syringe from her person and decisively injected it into herself. After such prolonged combat, she knew her stamina was nearly depleted.
Zombies surrounded the perimeter of the Ready Room. The Psychic Zombie suddenly turned its scarlet eyes toward Jie Xi on the ground. It noticed the only living person there, its face expressionless, treating her like an ant as it casually raised a hand and lunged at her.
CRASH! The palm struck the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust, and one of its fingers was severed from the hand.
In the instant she dodged, Jie Xi had managed to slice off one of its fingers, but this was no issue for the Zombie; it didn't even utter a sound.
Failing to hit jie Xi, the Psychic Zombie showed a flicker of surprise. It retrieved its hand from the dirt and quickly swiped sideways at her.
Jie Xi leaped into the air, evading the Psychic Zombie's swipe. The giant sword in her hand swept out sideways, instantly slicing two ordinary Zombies in two.
Jie Xi had a rough understanding of the Psychic Zombie's speed, but the only complication was the surrounding ordinary Zombies, all swarming her recklessly. While she could dispatch them individually, it consumed stamina. If her strength ran out before she defeated this Psychic Zombie, death would be inevitable.
Thinking this, Jie Xi refocused her energy. As the Psychic Zombie's arm swung down, she burst upward suddenly, using the creature's arm as a stepping stone, launching herself skyward to strike its head!
THWACK! The giant sword plunged through the air, directly piercing the Psychic Zombie's jaw area.
ROAR! The psychic zombie suddenly became frenzied, shaking its head wildly. Jie Xi gripped the giant sword tightly, but she was violently flung away along with it.
Jie Xi crashed heavily onto the ground from a height of ten meters. The resulting momentum dragged her across the floor for five meters.
Seeing Jie Xi down, the ordinary zombies immediately surged forward again. Suppressing the intense pain, Jie Xi sprang back to her feet instantly.
She stared at the Giant Zombie before her. It had clearly taken a direct hit to the head from her sword-how was it still standing?
While dodging the Psychic Zombie's attacks, Jie Xi cleared the surrounding ordinary zombies, momentarily reaching a stalemate.
--
On the distant city wall, Wang Zhi watched Jie Xi fighting alone against countless zombies, and his body began to tremble.
"We need to go! Before they spot us!" Fatty urged as he watched Wang Zhi frozen in place.
"It's alright; she's Jie Xi. Trust that she'll retreat unscathed." You Luo also sensed something was wrong.
"Face reality, Wang Zhi, you must accept losses to gain something." Seeing Wang Zhi unresponsive, Su Muying stepped forward and tugged at him.
"She is the one who protects me..." Wang Zhi murmured weakly.
"So what? Do you have the power to defeat it! If you don't, then find a safe place to hide! Don't lead us all to our deaths!" Su Muying ground out through clenched teeth while gripping Wang Zhi's collar.
"Sorry, I am not an assassin, I can't be as ruthless as you all. You don't have to follow me. Thank you for taking care of me these past few days..." Wang Zhi said, reaching inside his clothing to retrieve his Magnetic Card.
Slap! Upon hearing Wang Zhi's words, Su Muying slapped Wang Zhi across the face and said coldly, "If you go, can you change the tide of the battle? If you can't, then obediently come with us.'
'...I can.' wang Zhi said, trembling slightly and speaking in a small voice.
"You can?" Su Muying laughed in anger at Wang Zhi's words.
"Our sniper rifle bullets passed right through its head without doing any damage, what good would you be going?" Su Muying asked.
"Do you remember what Tang Qilin did when he killed the Giant Zombie at the military Base?" Wang Zhi asked in return.
"He stabbed it into the Giant Zombie's head with a knife?" Old He asked doubtfully.
"And, he coated the knife with something!" Duan Qingtian added.
"That's right, when Tang Qilin's two knives were stabbed into the Giant Zombie's head, it didn't die immediately but struggled for a while. This proves that the lethal factor wasn't the knife, but the substance coating it." Wang Zhi raised his hand, gently removed Su Muying's hand, and straightened his clothes.
"Hmph, do you have Tang Qilin's stuff or something/' Su Muying asked dismissively.
"I don't have that, but I have something far more precious on me than what he had." As Wang Zhi spoke, he threw his backpack and his gun onto the ground.
"Your body... you mean, you intend to use your own blood?" Old He suddenly widened his eyes, looking at Wang Zhi in shock.
"I just need to coat my blade with my blood, and then plunge it into that creature's head. It might fail, but at least it offers a chance." Wang Zhi smiled, taking out the Day and Night that Jie Xi had gifted him. Since it was night, Wang Zhi held the black blade in his hand.
Wang Zhi finished speaking, not giving the others a chance to argue, and immediately grabbed the rope ladder, sliding down from the city wall.
Watching Wang Zhi rush toward the battlefield alone, Jia Liuli didn't say a word, leaping down to follow him.
"This..." Qin Sheng glanced back at the group, then jumped down as well.
"I'm done for!' Fatty shouted, charging down after them.
Duan He said nothing, following closely behind.
For a moment, only Ying Luo and You Luo's two subordinates remained on the city wall.
"What? Aren't you going?" You Luo asked, looking at those who had already landed below.
"Hmph!" Su Muying snorted coldly, quickly sliding down using her Grappling Hook to chase after them.
"Hiyah, what a passionate group! Let's go, let's be passionate just once too1"
