Chapter 242 - Chapter 68: Waiting for Your Return

  "Open fire!"

"Watch out for Zombies nearby!"

"Stop their advance!"

"What in the world is that giant thing?!"

"Call the City Lord! Call the City Lord! The enemy leader has started attacking! We are in crisis here! Call the City Lord..."

The scene immediately descended into extreme chaos. The distant Psychic Zombie was continuously grabbing Zombies from the ground and hurling them toward the Ready Room.

Some survivors were instantly crushed to death by the fast-approaching Zombies falling from the sky, while others, more astute, had already begun circling around to the rear, preparing to flee.

Huddled behind the Northern Sector building, Wang Zhi and his ten companions listened to the gunshots and screams behind them, feeling uneasy, because this was also their best chance to run.

"Go!" Wang Zhi commanded, rising and sprinting toward the iron fence. The ten of them climbed over the fence and headed due east; their initial objective was the top of the city wall.

In the darkness, some fled while others counterattacked; nobody paid attention to what others were doing.

"Hoo~ hoo." Wang Zhi and his ten companions ran at full speed. Since the Zombies had mostly been gathered in the south by the Psychic Zombie, they encountered few obstacles along the way. Furthermore, the fog had almost completely dissipated, allowing them to observe distant movements early; the scattered Zombies posed no threat to them whatsoever.

*Swish!* Wang Zhi fired his Ejection Grappling Hook into the city wall. The ten of them had already reached the top.

"Keep watch on the surroundings!" Su Muying took the briefcase from Qin Sheng's hand, quickly assembled the sniper rifle, and prepared it.

"Target distance 150, wind speed approximately 4.5 to the left.' You Luo leaned close to Su Muying's side, calculating and observing the data for her.

Wang Zhi looked through the binoculars; that Psychic Zombie was actually using its hand to shield its head!

This action startled Wang Zhi. How was this possible? Did it already know how to protect itself?

In the Ready Room below, due to prior deployment arrangements and the dissipation of the fog, everyone's firepower completely suppressed the Zombie offensive. However, this psychic Zombie continuously threw Zombies into the fenced area from the air, forcing everyone to expend a portion of their energy clearing out the surrounding targets.

For a moment, the Ready Room became indistinguishable between people and specters, utterly chaotic!

Bang! Su Muying fired her first shot, but it only struck the Psychic Zombie's shoulder; the bullet entering it seemed to have no effect whatsoever.

"Wow, can you even do it? Aim for the head," You Luo said upon seeing that.

"Stop chirping," Su Muying frowned, continuing to aim.

The wind was strong at the moment, and the Zombie remained in constant motion, making it difficult to hit the target accurately.

The Psychic Zombie in the distance seemed annoyed by the frontal shots, roared, grabbed a handful of Zombies, and threw them directly onto the iron fence.

The wooden stakes behind the iron fence instantly snapped, and the fence collapsed1

'Ah! Help!"

"We're done for!"

"Everyone hold your positions!"

"We have no way to retreat!"

Upon seeing the defensive line breached, some people began to waver, preparing to flee, only to find themselves already surrounded by the surrounding Zombies, forcing them to continue fighting reluctantly.

Bang! Another shot echoed near Wang Zhi's ear; the bullet passed directly through the Psychic Zombie's head.

"Headshot!" You Luo exclaimed excitedly.

however, before everyone could celebrate, they noticed that the Psychic Zombie's figure merely swayed slightly, its scarlet eyes still fixed on the humans in the Ready Room as it continued to advance.

"What! What does this mean?" Wang Zhi had clearly seen the bullet pass through the Psychic Zombie's head, so why could it still move?

Bang! Su Muying fired another shot, hitting the Psychic Zombie in the heart, but there was still no reaction!

Su Muying's expression became somewhat unnatural; she tried to find the creature's weak spot.

"No good! This thing is too bizarre; let's retreat," Su Muying released her sniper rifle and proposed withdrawing.

Wang Zhi looked at the Ready Room in the distance, which was already breached. Most people had already fled inside, attempting a final struggle.

If they hadn't chosen to flee, but had insisted on staying, would they also have been forced into the buildings like the others?

He looked at the familiar faces, at the survivors who had trained together on the same grounds in the past. As they were one by one overpowered by the Zombies and unable to break free, a deep sense of guilt arose within him.

In reality, Old He and Duan Qingtian felt even worse than Wang Zhi; this was undoubtedly making them deserters-deserters who had abandoned their home and were now fleeing everywhere.

But this was the last thing Jie Xi had instructed Wang Zhi to do: to survive, at any cost, by any means necessary.

They had no other path now.

"Let's go!" Wang Zhi gritted his teeth, shouldered his backpack again, and walked toward the city gate.

In the distance, two figures clad in armor swiftly moved toward the southern Ready Room.

*Hoo... hoo...* Fatigue showed on Wei Changzheng's face; the prolonged, high-intensity fighting had worn him down.

"A'Zheng, once you enter the Ready Room, take them and break out from the rear. Do your best to get them to the main hall," Jie Xi said while running.

"City Master... you..."

"Listen... protect Wang Zhi and ensure they evacuate to the Dawn Tower first. Next, prioritize the evacuation of our Guard Team members," Jie Xi commanded.

"No! Then what about you?" Wei Changzheng asked urgently.

"Stop asking the obvious. Just obey my orders," Jie Xi replied coldly.

"Impossible! If you don't go back, what face will I have to return?"

"At this point, does something like 'face' still matter?"

"Then why won't you return with us?" Wei Changzheng asked.

"If we go together, we won't be able to return."

Hearing Jie Xi's words, Wei Changzheng shifted his stance to her right side. "City Master, you go lead them back."

"Don't be naive, A'Zheng. With your meager skills, how many seconds can you hold off those things?" Jie Xi offered a faint, bitter smile.

"I won't!" Wei Changzheng stubbornly refused.

"Obey my command! Don't force me to kill you right now!"

Wei Changzheng looked into Jie Xi's eyes. Tears streamed down his stern, stubborn face. "Yes... we will wait for your return!" With that, he moved away toward Jie Xi's left flank.

Watching Wei Changzheng's retreating back, a faint smile appeared beneath her crimson mask. She then looked toward the massive Zombie in the distance, her gaze instantly sharpening with killing intent!

On the city wall, Wang Zhi, who had run to the city gate, looked down. Very few of the Zombies that had been in the water remained. Since the enemy had launched an all-out attack, the number of Zombies at the gate was small, posing no threat to the ten of them.

"Captain... it's Jie Xi..." Liu Li stopped Wang Zhi, who was just about to slide down the city wall, pointing into the distance.

Hearing liu Li's words, Wang Zhi paused, raising his binoculars to look around the Psychic Zombie.

Indeed, Jie Xi was charging from the Northern Sector toward the Psychic Zombie, with Wei Changzheng running alongside her toward the Ready Room.
