"Tang Qilin?! Didn't he run away? How is he still here?" Fatty asked in surprise as he watched the two run over.
"Don't worry about that now, quickly cover them!" Wang Zhi raised his gun and aimed at the dark shadows pursuing Tang Qilin.
Tang Qilin's desperate retreat proved their escape plan had failed. Tang Qilin struggled to climb onto the metal fence; at this point, his stamina was insufficient for him to manage climbing over the three-meter barrier.
The woman, who was about to climb over, suddenly saw Tang Qilin lose his strength. She gave up on climbing over herself and moved beneath him, trying to push him up.
Tang Qilin didn't stand on ceremony this time, gritting his teeth and gripping the top of the metal fence with both hands, managing to get his upper body over first.
Seeing this, Wang Zhi immediately stepped forward and said, "Give me your hand!"
Tang Qilin reached out; he had no other choice at the moment.
Bang! Wang Zhi heavily pulled Tang Qilin off the fence, and his body slammed onto the ground.
"Hurry up and climb up too!" Wang Zhi anxiously slapped the metal fence and yelled at Fu Ling.
Fu Ling snapped back to her senses and leaped up, just about to cross over, when the fence suddenly surged inward, knocking Wang Zhi to the ground.
"Aah!!" A Zombie flew over and bit Fu Ling's lower leg. Fu Ling, already halfway over the fence, immediately let out a scream.
The Zombie was directly behind Fu Ling's leg, and the rest of them dared not fire rashly.
However, Su Muying acted swiftly, directly drawing her Dagger and stabbing the Zombie's head from the inside of the fence.
Seeing the Zombie release its bite, Old He immediately stepped forward and pulled Fu Ling back.
Wang Zhi and Old He quickly dragged Tang Qilin and his companion back inside the Ready Room.
'Tang Qilin, are you alright? Are there medical personnel here?! Someone is injured! Come take a look!" Wang Zhi shouted in the Ready Room.
Despite his shouting, the people inside the Ready Room not only failed to respond but stared fiercely at Tang Qilin and his companion, watching them injured, afraid they might suddenly turn into Zombies; everyone was ready to open fire at any moment.
"Stop shouting.... Go get us two Medical Kits.... We'll handle it ourselves!" Tang Qilin said through gritted teeth, gripping Wang Zhi's arm.
"Old He... hurry and find two Medical Kits. Tang Qilin, what exactly happened to you all?" Wang Zhi asked, lifting Tang Qilin's head.
"They've arrived.... I told you to run.... You didn't run, and now we will all die here!" Tang Qilin whispered weakly.
"I don't want to hear such disheartening words! What exactly is out there!" Wang Zhi exclaimed excitedly; someone had finally made it back from the outside, and he needed to secure that intelligence.
"A Psychic Zombie.... It is controlling these.... There are thousands more outside...."
Hearing Tang Qilin's words, Wang Zhi was startled. He had seen a Psychic Zombie before, and it was definitely not that large. Why was this one different?
As the two were talking, Old He rushed over carrying a Medical Kit. "Here's the medical kit you wanted! Wang Zhi, let's go!"
"Good."
Just as Wang Zhi stood up to leave, Tang Qilin grabbed his pant leg again.
"Also.... it can do more than just control Zombies.... Its combat power is beyond what you or I can match.... The best method right now is for you to circle around the side and escape through the city gate when it attacks.... Otherwise.... survival is highly unlikely!" Tang Qilin said as he lay on the ground.
Wang Zhi listened intently to Tang Qilin finish speaking, remained silent for a moment without saying anything, and then continued to lift his foot and leave.
On the way, Wang Zhi constantly weighed the options in his mind. If they fled now, it wouldn't matter much; with so many people here, their presence or absence wouldn't significantly change the outcome.
"Everyone listen up! The thing outside is a Psychic Zombie. According to Tang Qilin, this Zombie is extremely ferocious in combat. If it breaks into the Ready Room, we execute the escape plan: break out from the southeast side, bypass it along the city wall to reach the gate, and escape stealthily across the bridge!" Wang Zhi grit his teeth as he relayed the plan over the radio.
Hearing Wang Zhi's escape plan, no one raised any objections. In their view, since Tang Qilin had managed to return heavily wounded, the only path to survival left for them seemed to be fleeing.
As Wang Zhi ran out of the Ready Room, the surrounding roars grew louder, and the sound of gunfire erupted like firecrackers popping rapidly.
Seeing a group of dark figures rushing in from the south, many people threw their Biochemical Grenades, causing red smoke to billow everywhere for a time.
The Biochemical Grenades significantly halted the momentum of the zombie horde's assault; in situations where the Zombies clustered together, the advantage of such wide-area damage weapons became much more apparent.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Gray Wolf held his rifle, firing single shots; essentially, every bullet he fired caused a dark figure to fall to the ground.
"Increase the firepower! Don't let them get close to the iron netting!" a guard commanded through a loudspeaker amidst the crowd.
The corpses on the ground were already piled high; if all the bodies piled up beneath the iron netting, it would become very easy for these Zombies to climb over the fence.
Boom, boom, boom! The iron netting around Wang Zhi vibrated loudly from the impact of the Zombies, and the wooden stakes on the ground were beginning to loosen; their rate of fire could no longer match the speed of the Zombies' attack.
Tang Qilin was right; thousands of Zombies outside had already launched their attack. The issue on their side wasn't insufficient firepower, but rather that the restricted field of view had shrunk their effective firing range, thereby limiting their firepower output.
The stench of decaying flesh permeated the air. Over a thousand zombies had already fallen outside the iron netting. They didn't know how many more Zombies lay behind them, so they could only fire outward mindlessly, like killing machines.
Boom! An explosion sounded in the distance. Someone had pulled out the long-shelved High-Explosive Grenades and tossed them outward.
Seeing the firelight, Wang Zhi's eyes lit up. If they tossed Incendiary Grenades around now, illuminating the surroundings, perhaps visibility could be expanded even further.
"Back to the Ready Room, grab the Incendiary Grenades!" Wang Zhi lowered his gun and shouted to the others.
Everyone was focused solely on killing Zombies, carrying Biochemical Grenades and High-Explosive Grenades, yet they overlooked the weaker Incendiary Grenades. In truth, survivors had never favored Incendiary Grenades; they had always been left gathering dust in storage, but now, they might finally serve a critical purpose.
The ten people reached the supply area and searched for a while before finding the supply crate for Incendiary Grenades tucked away in a corner. Wang Zhi and the others filled their grenade pouches, but still feeling it wasn't enough, they grabbed an armful and ran back outside clutching them.
Wang Zhi reached the exterior. By this time, one wooden stake had snapped. Without its support, the iron netting at the breach instantly tilted forty-five degrees under the pressure of the zombies. The guard in charge immediately dispatched double the personnel to reinforce the spot, intending to prop up another stake.
Wang Zhi pulled the pin and threw the Incendiary Grenade in his hand toward the area forty to fifty meters out. Instantly, dozens of flames blazed up fiercely in the darkness, illuminating the zone fifty meters to the south.
And every Zombie that passed through the flames was clearly burning, making their targets much more visible than before, and the rate of fire immediately increased!
