Adejoke's POV
"No!" I screamed.
I didn't even know why I shouted—it felt like I was trapped in a nightmare, noise buzzing all around me, irritating and heavy. When my eyes opened, I saw a skinny girl staring at me wide-eyed.
"You're alive!" she screamed, her voice temporarily deafening me. I winced in pain.
"Eva," I called out weakly.
She froze, then immediately ran out of the ward, shouting "Doctor!" at the top of her lungs. I tried to sit up, but my body betrayed me—it was useless. Then I heard gasps from the doorway, making me snap my head in that direction.
Mrs. Maya. Lucy. Barnabas. Eva. And the doctor.
"I told you God loved him," Mrs. Maya smiled through tears, quickly wiping them away.
The doctor examined me and shook his head with relief.
"Your prayers worked, dear. God really does love him," he said, patting Eva on the shoulder before leaving.
Eva smiled, but she still looked weak, her eyes swollen from crying. She sat beside me, and so did Mrs. Maya. Everyone else stared at me like I had just risen from the dead—which, technically, I had.
"Are you feeling okay? Thank God you made it!" Lucy said, grinning.
"I'm good," I managed to reply.
They all started talking at once, sharing their own version of the story, but my gaze stayed fixed on Eva. She kept wiping her tears, smiling one second, crying the next. My heart tugged.
We were interrupted when a nurse came to call Mrs. Maya to the doctor's office. She left, and the room filled with chatter again—friends promising to cover my schoolwork and update me on all I'd missed.
When Mrs. Maya returned, she looked relieved. "You'll be discharged tomorrow. I've already made the payments," she announced.

The Next Day
Freedom at last. I was finally going home. Hospitals smell like bleach and sorrow, and I was glad to leave it behind.
Eva helped me to the car while I said my goodbyes, promising my classmates I'd be back in school next week. The car ride home was quiet, except for Mrs. Maya updating me on Abam's reaction to my sickness. I kept sneaking glances at Eva. She sat with her head down—ashamed? Nervous? Shy? I couldn't tell.
When we finally arrived, Abam ran toward me the second the car stopped. I crouched to his level, and he threw his arms around me, crying.
"You said you weren't going to leave me. I missed you!" he sobbed in their mother tongue.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, stroking his back.
"Abam, let him rest," Eva said gently.
"Later, okay?" I told him, heading upstairs.
My old room looked brand new. Fresh sheets, sparkling clean, even a new wardrobe. I grabbed a towel and showered. Just as I was about to pull on my vest, there was a knock at the door.
"Eva, I bet," I muttered.
"Can I come in?"
"Yeah, sure."
She walked in, eyes glued to the floor. She wore blue-gray shorts and a black hoodie.
"Actually, I came to apologize for the other day. I was wrong. I got angry for no reason. I promise never to act like I run your life again. I'll respect your privacy. Would you please come live with us? I—"
"I think I'm growing a moustache. I'm a man now," I interrupted, smirking.
"Did you even hear me?" she yelled, glaring.
Typical Eva. I thought she was about to get all soft on me.
"Yeah, I did. I'm sorry too."
"No, you're not! And about your moustache... it's kinda cute. What? I didn't just say that. Whatever! I'm going. Dinner's ready." Her face burned crimson.
"Alright, doll," I teased.
Her brows furrowed at the nickname, but I just shrugged and followed her downstairs. Mrs. Maya sat there smiling, phone in hand.
"What are you smiling at?" Eva asked.
"Guess what?" Mrs. Maya replied.
"Kiera's coming back?" Eva asked excitedly.
"You guessed right! She'll be here tomorrow. My sweet baby! We need to clean her room and prepare something special."
"Sister Kiera? Coming home tomorrow?" Abam's eyes widened.
"Yes!" Eva screamed.
"So who's Kiera?" I asked, stabbing a piece of chicken with my fork.
"My twin, duh!" Eva said.
"Ooh."
"She's a crazy fella," Eva whispered as she went upstairs.
I ate fast, washed my plate, and went back to my room.

The Next Morning
I went to my apartment, packed my things, and even grabbed groceries before heading back. My car broke down (perfect timing, thanks) but the mechanic fixed it after a while. Hungry, I stopped for pizza and then finally drove home.
I knocked on the door.
"Who's there?" a familiar voice teased.
"Will you just open the door already?" I groaned.
"What if I don't?" she teased again.
"Eva! I've got heavy stuff here!"
The door swung open. Eva stood there, Abam beside her, and next to them—a stranger. No, not a stranger. An angel. She was breathtaking. Honestly, prettier than Eva... maybe by just 10%.
"I can help you with that, dear," Eva offered, nudging me.
"Hi Eva, I'm offended! You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend," the girl pouted.
"Geez, Kiera! He's not my boyfriend. Mom brought him here. This is Adejoke. Adejoke, meet my twin sister, Kiera," Eva introduced.
Kiera. Eva's twin.
And cuter? More beautiful?
Hmm.
