Chapter 23: Last Day of The Month
Matthew Atkinson
Oxford
"We can form a team!"
Matthew smiled and said, "But I have a condition."
To make up for Matthew's loss, Natalie no longer wanted to cause any further disagreement.
So, she just followed whatever Matthew said.
"Okay, I'll do as you say."
"First of all, the number of people in the team will be limited to two. Just you and me." Matthew asked with a smile, "Do you agree?"
It was not that Matthew was unwilling to help other students. But he had his own considerations.
Additionally, Matthew's goal was extra rewards.
This type of reward needed to be shared with teammates. If there were two more people, Matthew's gains would be reduced.
Hearing Matthew's words, Natalie's pretty face suddenly showed hesitation.
However, she did not hesitate for long before nodding and agreeing.
"Okay, then it's just the two of us."
The main reason was that after she said in class that she must bring Matthew along, fewer people were willing to team up with her.
Because everyone agreed that Matthew was a huge burden!
Although Natalie's Flame-Flame Fruit was mighty, that would only be in the future. Now the difference between everyone was not that big, and Natalie alone would not be able to provide much help.
Therefore, after weighing the pros and cons, many people no longer regarded Natalie as a target teammate for cooperation.
Almost all the remaining boys who were willing to form a team had ulterior motives and were targeting Natalie herself.
The girl felt that it would be better not to have those teammates.
"Okay, it's settled then. We are now a team. I don't have any other conditions, but I do have a deal offer." Matthew said while smiling.
"A deal offer?" Natalie was surprised. She had never expected this conversation to come this far.
"Yes, it's a deal. Your part is that no matter how much great work we do in the Supernatural Realm, no matter how many great rewards we receive, you take all the credit."
Natalie was now thoroughly shocked. Could Matthew even grasp the situation they were in? Shouldn't they be thinking about survival rather than rewards and credits?
"Matthew, I think we should focus primarily on surviv…" She started to speak, but was interrupted by Matthew.
"And my part of the deal is to make sure you, or rather we, get the best results ever."
Natalie was now too shocked to speak, and for some reason, Mathew thought her expression was quite cute.
"Natalie, look at me. Into my eyes." Matthew spoke again, and Natalie looked into Matthew's eyes.
"What do you see? People say a lot of things about me. That I'm a super simp, that I've lost my mind because of love, that I've given up on life. Look deep into my eyes and tell me if you see someone who's really lost his mind or given up."
Natalie gazed intently into Matthew's eyes, lost in them for a moment. In that moment, their gazes locked, and she saw many things in Matthew's eyes.
Confidence, strength, purpose, certainty, superiority, even a touch of arrogance, but these were definitely not the eyes of someone who had given up on life or lost his mind in love.
"I… I…" She didn't know what to say.
"You see, right? There are things I can't tell you right now. But as I said, I need you to take the credit when the time comes, and in return, you can be sure I'll keep my word. I know you won't fully understand me when I struggle to explain certain things to you properly. But I need you to trust me. Now, do we have a deal partner?"
Natalie didn't know why, but perhaps because of the effect Matthew's eyes had on her, she didn't think much about it and accepted the deal. "Deal."
"Good. Don't worry, in the future, you'll see that the decision you make today is the best decision you've ever made in your life. I'll make sure of it."
Matthew didn't suddenly agree to Natalie's request to form a team on a whim. He realized that if he wanted to achieve excellent results in the supernatural realm without anyone noticing, he needed someone to take the credit instead of him.
To put it simply, he wanted to use Natalie as his "shield"!
Since the university would check everyone's Supernatural Realm results, if he were to go to the Spirit Realm alone and receive an extremely high reward, it would definitely arouse suspicion.
But it would be different if Natalie were with him.
After all, Natalie possessed the Flame-Flame Fruit and was a genius.
What was a genius? Wasn't it normal to perform a little better than everyone as a genius?
Even if she carried a 'burden' with her, she may still be able to get excellent results!
At that time, as long as Matthew put all the credit on Natalie, he could continue to hide and be inconspicuous!
As for reputation...
When he became invincible, fame and fortune would come after anyway!
But he didn't want to take advantage of Natalie again. Or go even further and manipulate her. So he offered her a deal.
And he did not doubt that he would be able to fulfill his end of the bargain. As a result, thanks to Matthew, Natalie would gain results and extra rewards she wouldn't normally have.
Matthew did not doubt that this was crucial to her future and her dreams.
"That's right!"
Seeing Natalie preparing to leave, Matthew suddenly remembered something important.
He asked, "Natalie, do you have money?"
This question stunned Natalie, but the girl nodded honestly nonetheless.
"I have."
Her father was also a supernatural, and he was also a Magister at the Royal Guild, so her family's conditions were very good.
At least it was much better than Matthew's family.
"How much money do you have on the card now?"
"I don't know exactly. Before I came to school, my dad gave me some money, plus the New Year's money gifts I got as a child... altogether, it's probably over a million pounds!"
Hiss!
She was a little rich woman!
More than one million pounds was not a large sum, but it was still rare for a student to have that much.
It only means that the student's family's conditions were good enough.
"Can you lend me five hundred thousand?"
Matthew opened his mouth and said, "Don't worry, I'll write you an IOU and I'll definitely pay you back."
"No need to write an IOU. I trust you." Natalie said nonchalantly, then asked, "Is 500,000 enough? If not, I'll transfer you 1 million! Anyway, I won't need that money. It has been in the bank for a long time."
For Natalie, it was really a small matter that Matthew was asking her for money.
The value of a Flame-Flame Fruit couldn't be measured even by hundreds of billions. What was a million against it?
Moreover, she was not lying. The money was lying in her bank card, gathering dust. She didn't need it.
"Uh... that's fine!"
Matthew was a little uncomfortable with the girl's generosity.
This was the first time he had encountered such a loan.
Suddenly, he felt that Natalie had many good points. Beautiful, kind-hearted, and generous!
The most important thing was that Natalie was not like those other beauties who think the world revolves around them. Those who are not destined to be a princess but often exhibit princess syndrome, thinking that men should revolve around them.
Natalie's personality, apart from being a bit stubborn, was really better than those in other aspects.
Thinking of this, Matthew became more and more satisfied with Natalie!
This was simply the perfect "shield" candidate.
"Send me your card number."
The girl wasn't just talking. She just waited for Matthew's card number and transferred the money immediately.
Not long after, Matthew received a notification that £ 1,000,000 had been deposited into his account.
…
The next few days after he got the money, Matthew became busy.
He first spent over 400,000 pounds to buy a small apartment near the school, then ordered a luxury sunbathing machine and moved into the apartment.
It took him ten days to complete all this.
Mainly, the procedures for buying a house and ordering sunbathing equipment both took time.
Initially, Matthew considered placing the sunbathing machine directly in the school dormitory.
However, as soon as this idea came to mind, he rejected it.
Because it was a lot of trouble.
The deluxe version of the sunbathing equipment was so big that it's comparable to a bed!
It was not easy to get such a big thing into the dormitory, and it was very eye-catching.
Furthermore, the luxury version of sunbathing equipment required more power.
Matthew didn't want to be questioned by the dormitory manager every day because of the electricity bill.
It was more convenient to move out.
Anyway, the university did not prohibit students from living outside.
In fact, almost all the students in the university who had the means had bought houses nearby and lived outside.
This made it convenient for them to vent their desires!
The monthly trip to the supernatural realm, walking on the edge of life and death, created unimaginable pressure.
If someone couldn't find a way to vent, their mental state could easily become damaged!
And it was a bit inappropriate to mess around on campus. But no one cared if you went outside...
…
Last day of May. Early morning.
Matthew woke up from the sunbathing device...
Ever since he bought this thing, he had simply used it as a bed and slept in it every day.
Although sunbathing all the time didn't increase his attributes, it kept his body in excellent condition!
The first thing he did when he woke up was to check his attributes.
.........
Race: Human
Constitution: 290 (↑160)
Mental: 95 (↑48)
Strength: 290 (↑160)
Agility: 290 (↑160)
Ability: Kryptonian Bloodline
Attribute Points: 0
.........
Explosive attributes!
As a newcomer who had not yet entered the supernatural realm, his attributes were definitely beyond those of his peers.
The Kryptonian Bloodline was really great!
Matthew would enter the supernatural realm tomorrow.
And he could get attributes from sunbathing again tomorrow!
By then, Matthew's three attributes would reach 300.
If there weren't any powerful monsters in the first level of the supernatural realm, he might even go berserk.
After washing up and having breakfast downstairs, Matthew walked towards the university.
When he arrived at the classroom, he was just in time, and the class bell rang.
Then, Professor Holland walked into the classroom.
"Tomorrow is the day you enter the first level of the Supernatural Realm, so after class today, don't go to training. Take a good rest! Regain your energy and enter the Supernatural Realm in the best possible condition!"
When they heard that they could take a break, no one looked happy. Instead, many of them looked nervous.
No one could relax as long as they thought about entering the supernatural realm tomorrow and facing the mission of life and death.
Professor Holland also looked serious and asked, "Have you all found your teammates?"
The students nodded.
Then, everyone's gaze subconsciously turned towards Matthew.
