Chapter 27 - KRYPT-Ch.27: The Strange City

Matthew Atkinson & Natalie Russell

First Layer of the Supernatural Realm

"Natalie Russell!"

Suddenly, a voice came from the crowd.

Matthew and Natalie looked in the direction of the sound simultaneously and saw four young men staring at them.

Two of the young men wore smug smiles on their faces, and their expressions carried a meaningful tone.

"What a coincidence! I didn't expect to meet you in the supernatural realm."

Hearing this, Natalie glanced at them and nodded: "It's indeed a coincidence."

Matthew immediately came over and asked in a low voice, "Do you know them?"

He leaned in a little too close. Natalie could even feel the heat from Matthew's breath through her ears, which made her feel a little uncomfortable.

"Students from Class A." The girl whispered.

"Oh."

Matthew looked at the four people and had no impression of them.

Not to mention the students in Class A, after a month, he didn't even recognize most of the students in Class B!

"Why do I feel like there's something sinister in the tone of his words?" Matthew asked, "Is there a feud between you?"

Natalie thought for a moment and explained in a low voice, "Those two in front of me had approached me before to team up, but at that time I had already promised you that everything would be up to you, so I rejected them."

Hearing this, Matthew looked again at the two people standing before him.

'Could it be that these two guys are holding a grudge against Natalie for not teaming up with them?'

Whether it was or not, he didn't care.

Anyway, all of them had already entered the supernatural realm and would lose their memory when they returned. There was no need for him to pretend anymore, and he could reveal his strength anytime.

If they dare to mess with him, they should be careful, not the other way around.

At that moment, Natalie suddenly said seriously. "Don't worry about them, Matthew. We've already entered the supernatural realm. We don't know what kind of monsters we'll encounter yet. For our safety, I hope you'll follow my instructions for the next move."

It was normal for the girl to make such a suggestion.

After all, Matthew had a "useless ability"!

Moreover, Matthew hadn't trained in the past month, looking completely lost in his own despair.

They had entered the supernatural realm, and she couldn't allow someone who had given up hope to do whatever he wanted.

Even though Matthew had talked big in their previous conversations and made a deal with Natalie, he knew Natalie wouldn't believe him so easily.

When Matthew heard Natalie's proposal, he wanted to refuse it.

But he changed his mind and realized that he didn't know what was in this layer of the supernatural realm yet and had no clue for the time being. It would be better for him to give the girl some face and listen first.

If Natalie made a wrong decision, it wouldn't be too late for him to correct her in time.

Thinking of this, Matthew smiled and said, "Okay! I'll do as you say."

Upon hearing this, Natalie breathed a sigh of relief.

She was really afraid that Matthew was determined to give up on himself and would not want to listen to her, even in the supernatural realm. That would be troublesome.

For a moment, she remembered the moment she'd locked eyes with Matthew during their previous conversation.

Those eyes weren't those of someone who had given up on life, but Natalie couldn't leave that to chance. No matter what, she had to ensure their safe return.

"There's a city wall over there. Let's go over and take a look."

"Ok!"

The two of them walked towards the city wall.

Others made the same choice.

After all, this was a desolate place with nothing else in sight. If you wanted to find clues, you could only go to the city wall.

So, a group of people marched towards the city wall.

However, everyone walked with their teammates and maintained a certain distance from others.

The professors had long told them that the threats they would face in the supernatural realm were not just monsters.

Other supernatural people were also threats to them, sometimes more than monsters.

Because most supernatural realm layers did not restrict supernatural people from killing each other, and in the supernatural realm, supernatural people were also competitors.

Therefore, it was not uncommon to see supernatural people fighting each other in the supernatural realm.

The only people you could trust were your teammates!

At the moment, no mission and no monsters appeared. There was no conflict of interest among the people. So, everyone could still control themselves and maintain a certain order.

Besides, everyone came empty-handed.

They had almost nothing with them except the clothes on their backs.

This was because, in the Amnesiac Layer, it was forbidden to bring any items except clothes.

Everyone walked forward quickly.

It only took a few minutes to reach the outside of the city wall.

Then they all stopped.

This was a city with a retro atmosphere, surrounded by a city wall over ten meters high. Through the city gate, they could vaguely see that the houses in the city were similar in architectural style to those of the European medieval period.

On the main road, numerous pedestrians in medieval attire and carriages passed by, and the city appeared relatively prosperous.

On the surface, there was nothing unusual about this place.

But every supernatural still had serious expressions and observed carefully.

Because this was the supernatural realm, full of unknown dangers, no one dared to be careless here.

"Something's wrong."

Natalie suddenly issued a reminder.

Matthew looked at the girl and found that her brows were furrowed, and her pretty face had a serious expression.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"There's something wrong with this whole city." Natalie explained in a low voice, "This area is completely desolate. There aren't any villages to see. There's only this isolated city. This is the biggest anomaly!"

"Oh?" Matthew's eyes lit up, and he continued to ask knowingly: "Why do you say that?"

"Supply problem!"

Natalie said patiently, "There are no villages around this city, let alone crops. This means that to maintain its operation, a large number of resources must be mobilized from other places."

"From the outside, this looks like a city from the feudal period, with no signs of industrialization. Transportation was tough during the feudal period, and supplying a city's population was incredibly difficult."

"Generally speaking, this was only the case in important military settlements in history."

"But this city doesn't look like a major military settlement at all. Most of the people inside are civilians. The surrounding terrain is also flat, which doesn't meet the criteria of a key military location."

"So, I think it's unusual for this city to be here."

"Of course, this is all based on my historical experience, and since this is a supernatural realm, there may be some other explanations."

"In short, we have to be careful!"

This was the first time Natalie had spoken so much to Matthew since he had known her, including the three years they had been classmates in high school.

He had to say. The girl's analysis made a lot of sense.

The most important thing was that Natalie could analyze so many things just from the appearance of a city, which shows that the girl has a very high IQ.

She was indeed a gifted academic mind who had dominated her high school classmates for three years.

Matthew was very satisfied with Natalie's performance.

Then he asked, "So what do we do now? Should we go in?"

"Let's go in!" Natalie said, "There's nothing here. We have no choice but to enter this city."

Matthew nodded.

Then, the two of them approached the town.

When they were about to reach the city gate.

Suddenly, Matthew felt his left eye getting hot.

As soon as he thought about it, a holographic projection panel popped up in his left eye.

At this moment, many scarlet words had appeared on the panel!

That was his mission in this supernatural realm.
