Cathy's POV
Two weeks later
It's been two beautiful weeks of peace, love, and laughter—two weeks that felt like a dream I never wanted to wake up from. Every morning, I woke up to the warmth of Jasper's arms wrapped around me, his gentle kisses on my forehead, and the soft hum of his voice telling me how much he loved me. It was as though all the pain, all the heartbreak, had finally been replaced with something pure and healing.
Jasper had promised me something that made my heart melt—he said he wanted to quit his job and spend every single day with me and the twins. But I couldn't let him do that. That company was the only thing his grandfather left behind for him. It was his legacy, and even though his grandfather had been cold and prejudiced, that company still represented Jasper's resilience. I told him, "You've worked too hard to throw it away because of me. I don't need you to leave your dreams to prove your love. Just promise me you'll come home every night."
He smiled that same smile that always weakened me, kissed my forehead, and whispered, "As long as you're here, home will always wait for me."
Today felt different, though. My heart carried both joy and nervousness. Jude and Jane were coming over—they said they wanted to apologize for everything that happened ten years ago. Even though Jasper had already forgiven them, I didn't know if I was ready. The wounds were deep. I had suffered for years because of Jude's actions, and every time I looked at my children, I remembered that pain. But at the same time… they were also my blessings.
The twins were in the living room, arranging flowers and cleaning, trying to make the house look welcoming. Jasper was in the kitchen, cooking my favorite meal—shrimp pasta with white wine sauce. He said he wanted everything to be perfect for today. I watched him from the doorway, the way his brows furrowed in concentration, the way his muscles flexed with every move. Even after all these years, that man still made my heart skip a beat.
"Are you nervous?" he asked, glancing up and smiling softly.
"Maybe a little," I admitted. "It's been a long time, Jasper. I don't even know what to say to them."
He came closer, wiped his hands, and held my face gently. "You'll know what to say when you see them. You've always had the kindest heart, Cathy. That's what makes you different."
Tears welled up in my eyes as I leaned into his touch. I wasn't sure if it was forgiveness I was ready to give—but I knew I had to listen. I owed that much to the woman I had become.
As we waited, I stared out the window, the sea breeze flowing through the curtains. My heart beat faster with every passing minute. I prayed silently, "Lord, give me the strength to face this chapter of my life with peace, not hate."
Then there was a knock at the door. My pulse quickened. Jasper turned to me, squeezing my hand gently.
"They're here," he whispered.
I nodded, taking a deep breath, my heart pounding so loudly I could barely hear anything else. This was the moment. Ten years of silence, pain, guilt, and unanswered questions—all leading up to this single day.
And as the door opened, I prayed that maybe, just maybe… this time, forgiveness could finally heal what pain had destroyed.
In the Abyss
The room was drenched in shadows, the air thick with the scent of smoke and mystery. The flickering light from the chandelier above barely reached the corners, where secrets seemed to lurk and breathe.
"Are you sure she would even want to see your face?" Cecilia's voice echoed softly, but her tone carried that familiar arrogance Jude had always despised.
"Why not?" Jude replied with a crooked grin. He was dressed in a black leather jacket and matching trousers, no shirt beneath—his chest bare and marked by scars that spoke of battles and betrayal. He sat like a king on his throne, exuding power and danger.
Cecilia smirked, turning slightly so the dim light caressed her face. She had gone through countless surgeries—her skin flawless, her lips fuller, her eyes sharper. She looked almost unrecognizable, like a reborn serpent in human form.
"So," she said, brushing her long black hair aside, "how do you see my new face?"
Jude leaned forward, his eyes studying her for a long, silent moment. "It's nice," he said finally, his voice low, almost mocking.
She chuckled, clearly pleased. "Good. Because with this face, no one will ever know who I am—not even Jasper."
Her heels clicked against the marble floor as she approached the exit, her words trailing like venom behind her. "I hope you remember the plan," she said, not turning back. "I want Jasper… and you want Cathy. Got it?"
Jude said nothing. He simply tilted his head, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Got it," he whispered as she walked away.
Just then, his phone buzzed. It was Jane.
"Jude," she said hurriedly from the other end, "be ready—Cathy agreed to meet us. This is your chance."
A slow, dangerous smile spread across his face. "Perfect," he muttered.
He rose from his chair, grabbing his jacket as he descended the dark staircase. The shadows seemed to follow him, wrapping around his every step.
At the bottom, Cecilia stood waiting, her arms folded and that sly smile still dancing on her lips.
Jude paused, his eyes narrowing slightly before he whispered with a faint, teasing laugh, "What a brat."
And with that, he brushed past her, his footsteps echoing through the corridor as he disappeared into the night—ready to face the woman he lost, and the demons he created.
(Author POV)
I know you all are confused about what is going on here — so here is the truth, plain and ugly.
The moment Jude saw Cathy in Jasper's office something in him ruptured. Memories he had tried to bury for years flooded him all at once: the worst things he had done, the secret he had carried, the shame he had never allowed himself to face. He forced a mask of calmness over his face and acted nonchalant so nobody would suspect he recognized her. On the surface he walked away like an indifferent man; underneath, everything was already in motion.
That night he began to follow Jasper. He tailed him from a distance, watched the way Jasper looked at Cathy, watched them laugh together, watched a life he had never had unfold before his eyes. Each small, ordinary happiness between them felt like salt in an old wound. Jealousy poisoned into rage until Jude found himself whispering the thought that had been growing in him since that glimpse: why is it always Jasper who gets the good things? He wanted to make Jasper pay.
While spying, Jude noticed another shadow — someone else watching from the periphery. He trailed that person instead and discovered they were working for Cecilia. That discovery was the pivot. Jude used the chance to edge closer to Cecilia, learning her bitterness, feeding her fury. He learned that Cecilia had been engaged to Jasper once, that she still harbored hatred and hunger for retribution. He fed her anger with the key piece of information he had long kept folded inside himself.
Yes — Jude was the one who had hurt Cathy. He carried that guilt and that denial, and instead of confessing, he weaponized the memory. He fed the private investigator funded by Cecilia with half-truths and hints until the investigator's dossiers pointed toward Cathy's past. Cecilia took that information and, with a cruel relish, unfolded it before the family. The revelation shattered Cathy in public, exactly as Jude and Cecilia had quietly planned.
When Cathy disappeared — when she quietly relocated far away with her children — Jude felt a strange, bitter reaction. He hadn't wanted her gone; he wanted her hurt, humiliated, taken from Jasper. Her leaving was a loss he could not name, and it hollowed him out in a way his hatred could not mend. For five years he searched in silence, tracing leads, following whispers, driven by a mix of obsession and regret. When they finally found her, he kept the discovery to himself. He did not go to Jasper. He did not tell Jane. He folded that knowledge away like a secret trophy.
Instead of remorse, Jude chose power. He walked into the shadows and offered himself to a different kind of family — one that paid in fear and influence rather than in love. He climbed, learned the rules of the underworld, and allied with a mafia boss to build an empire strong enough to bend people and circumstances to his will. Wealth, weapons, connections: tools to engineer the sweetest possible revenge.
All the while he kept one promise close: he would meet Cecilia again, and together they would finish what they had started. Their plan was no longer a petty scheme; it had become an architecture of ruin. Jude wanted Cathy out of his family's life, and he wanted Jasper to watch as everything he loved collapsed. He wanted retribution so neat and complete it would taste like victory.
That is the truth — ugly, precise, and deliberate.
Cathy's POV
After waiting for what felt like forever, Jude and Jane finally arrived. I welcomed them with a warm smile, pretending like nothing had ever gone wrong between us. My heart was pounding, but I hid every trace of pain behind my hospitality. "Please, come in," I said softly, ushering them toward the dining table where Jasper was already waiting.
Dinner started off peacefully. I tried to keep my smile steady, tried not to remember the scars buried deep in my heart. We laughed over small talks, shared glances, and for a moment, it almost felt like old times—until Jude suddenly broke the silence.
"I'm so sorry, Cathy, for all I've done," he said, his voice trembling slightly, eyes refusing to meet mine. "I just… I hope I'm forgiven."
For a second, I froze. My breath caught in my throat, but I forced a calm smile. "It's not your fault," I said quietly. "We were only young and stupid." I laughed faintly, pretending to move past it, though every word stung. I could feel Jasper's hand brush against mine under the table — steady, protective.
We continued eating, tension hanging in the air like smoke. But then Jasper said something that made the whole table go silent.
"I want to take custody of Lucas and Luna," he said firmly.
Jude's expression instantly darkened. His jaw tightened, and I saw the flicker of anger in his eyes.
"They are my kids, Jasper," Jude snapped. "So stop this nonsense."
Jane's calm voice broke through the tension. "But you said you'd let Cathy and Jasper be. Why start another commotion now?" Her tone was mature, soft — the kind that made you listen. I was proud of her. She'd grown so much, married now, even with a child of her own.
But Jude only turned to me, his eyes burning with something unreadable. "Cathy, can I speak to you in private?" he asked.
Before I could respond, Jasper interjected sharply. "No. Whatever you have to say, you'll say it here."
Jude gave a cold smirk. "If you don't let us speak in private, I won't hand over the custody papers."
The room went still. I felt Jasper's hand clench into a fist. I touched his arm gently, giving him an assuring look. "Don't worry, Jasper. Let's go and talk," I said softly, my voice steady even though my heart trembled.
We walked out to the backyard, where the night air felt heavy, almost suffocating. The garden lights cast dim shadows, and the sound of crickets echoed around us.
Jude broke the silence first. "Do you remember your friend… Phyna?" he asked, his tone calm — too calm.
A sad smile crossed my lips. "Of course. She was my best friend back then," I said, looking up at the stars. "But she passed away. Drowned, actually."
Jude nodded slowly, stepping closer. "Did you ever ask who her killer was?"
My heart skipped a beat. I turned to face him. "She drowned, Jude," I said firmly. "No one killed her. It was an accident."
But then — he looked at me with a cruel smirk that sent chills down my spine. "It was Jasper," he whispered. "If you don't believe me, you can ask him yourself."
The world around me froze. My heart began to race ,my legs trembling beneath me.
