Chapter 23 - Adoption.

I was currently sitting on a couch just... thinking, while Lilith was screaming in the other room.

I've been thinking about what Lucifer said... adoption. I never really had any plans of being adopted... much less finding a new family.

But maybe this wasn't the worst. I don't have to fight for my life every day, and they're royalty — they must have somewhere for me to study this world and how it works.

Yeah...

As I sat alone on the couch, I began reminiscing about my life before the fall — how my family would always work late hours to provide for me and my sister.

We weren't rich, no, but we would always try to help around and make their burdens much lighter.

They would always tell us they were thankful for the help and to always work hard, because one day, the fruits of your work will bear fruit.

I didn't believe it at first because I was young and naïve to the truths of the world.

My sister, though... even though she was slightly younger than me, grew up way too fast.

She would always be the bossy sibling and would always be left in charge whenever Mom and Dad were away for work.

Even though she would always boss me around, I still love her.

Still, I wished she didn't talk so much about her...

"AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DID, LUCIFER MAGNE MORNINGSTAR!" Lilith yelled, kicking Lucifer out of the room and landing him on his face.

My reminiscing was interrupted when she yelled and looked directly towards me. Her face, filled with anger, quickly turned into a more gentle and welcoming expression.

"Dear, would you come inside for a minute? We have something to talk about," she said with a smile on her face.

Hesitantly, I got up from the couch and entered the room. Once I was inside, I saw Lilith soothing a sleeping Charlie.

She turned her head towards me and motioned for me to come closer.

I closed the door behind me and walked towards Lilith. Once I reached her, she tapped her lap.

I wasn't sure why, but before I knew it, I was floating in the air, surrounded by Lilith's magic. She gently placed me on her lap and began petting my head.

"I know this may seem... odd for you, little one, and my husband's sudden... adoption of you may come as a bit... odd," she said, her face cringing a bit.

"But believe me, he is one of the sweetest and most caring people I know, and if he wants to take care of you, I won't stop him," she said with a smile on her face.

"Then... why did you kick him out of the room just now?" I asked.

"Oh! That's simple — because that handsome devil didn't even inform me of this! Granted, I would have been more than happy to adopt you as a son, but I wasn't too happy he didn't include me in the surprise," she said with a huff.

"But... the real question is... would you take us as your family?" she asked.

I thought about it for a few seconds, and not wanting to disappoint my new family, I got off Lilith's lap and got on one knee.

"I would be honored for you to become my family, if you would accept me as your own."

And with a wide smile, Lilith picked me up and began hugging me.

"I'm so happy! Oh, Charlie is going to be so happy when she hears the news."

Suddenly, the door burst open, revealing Lucifer carrying a rather large cake.

"And it was all my idea!" he said with a giant grin on his face.

I looked towards Lilith, and she had a deadpan look.

The next second, Lucifer and the cake were quickly thrown out of the room.

"Oh no, you don't get to come in here. You're sleeping on the couch tonight," she said with a stern look.

"But come on, honey... I never sleep on the couch... it's lonely," he said, doing puppy-dog eyes to appease Lilith.

Lilith then had a small smile on her face... before throwing a large stuffed animal at Lucifer's face.

"Sleep well, dear!" she said before slamming the door behind her.

"Man... I really thought that would work." Lucifer then picked up the giant stuffed animal and placed it beside him on the chair.

---

"Now it's getting late; you should go to sleep as well, my dear. We will be leaving tomorrow," Lilith said, placing me down beside Charlie.

"I don't really need sleep," I said to her.

"Oh, don't try and reason with me, young man. If you want to grow up, you're going to need lots of rest. Now go to bed, dear," she said before giving me a kiss on the forehead and leaving the room.

I lay there beside Charlie — I guess she's my sister now. As I tried to fall asleep, Charlie began hugging me and using me like a chew toy.

She grabbed one of my horns and began chewing on it. I couldn't sleep like this, so getting out of bed, I just stood in the middle of the room — and surprisingly, I was able to fall asleep.

My eyes were getting heavy, and I slowly felt my consciousness slip into a deep sleep.

---

Opening my eyes, I was back in the void — though this time, it looked... bright? I wasn't sure, so getting up, I quickly noticed four figures standing in front of me.

One looked like a giant moth with tentacles for its wings... hands? The other was a rather pale-looking tree, covered in what I could only assume were bandages.

Standing in between them was a rather small figure compared to them — he looked almost like me, if not taller. And behind him was a towering figure that looked like it was made of shadows. Looking at its face, it had four pairs of white eyes. It didn't have any facial features except those unmoving eyes.

Then the one in the center spoke.

"Welcome, pure vessel," it spoke in a regal and elegant tone.

What is happening?
