Chapter 63 - Don’t Become Spider-Man

"Fifth — after you've beaten up the bad guys, make sure you leave right away. Otherwise, people will expect you to clean up the mess."

"Sixth — wash your suit often. If it starts to smell weird, people will make fun of you."

"Seventh — dust a little body powder before putting it on, especially around the joints. You don't want to get a rash, do you?"

Spider-Man B was speaking enthusiastically, but the more Peter listened, the more something felt off.

The first few sounded… reasonable, maybe. But the rest? What kind of advice was that?

Wash the suit?Use body powder?

He thought about it for a second — okay, maybe the powder thing did make sense. Sometimes his skin felt itchy after long hours in the suit. Probably because he hadn't used any.But seriously, what did any of that have to do with being Spider-Man?

"And finally, the last and most important rule."

Spider-Man B's joking expression vanished. He looked at Peter with unprecedented seriousness.

Peter instinctively straightened, the mood suddenly solemn.

"Don't. Become. Spider-Man."

Peter frowned deeply.

It wasn't the first time he'd heard Spider-Man B say that.

Back when they had first dug him out, Peter had asked him for advice on being Spider-Man — and he'd said exactly the same words.

At the time, Peter thought it was just a joke.

But now, from his tone and expression, Peter could tell he wasn't joking.

He truly meant it — he was warning Peter not to become Spider-Man.

Spider-Man B sighed, patted Peter's shoulder, and said heavily,

"Being Spider-Man is a curse. It doesn't just affect us — it affects everyone around us. Because of it, I've missed so much… and lost even more."

A flash of blonde hair flickered through his memory. Long ago, during a battle with the Green Goblin, he had watched her fall — watched her die right in front of him — and he had been powerless to stop it.

Liz Allan, Betty Brant, Jean DeWolff, Felicia Hardy, Debra Whitman, Silver Sable, Harry Osborn…There were so many people he had disappointed. So many he'd lost.

Then another image appeared in his mind — a woman with brown hair.Mary Jane. His true love. They had been together, married even. But when she said she wanted children, he hesitated. Because he wasn't sure that the man he had become could ever be a good father.

So, they divorced.

Now, looking at the young Peter before him — the bright, eager face of a young man full of energy and idealism — he couldn't help but sigh.

He knew that look all too well.It was the look of someone who had just begun the path of a hero, when everything still felt new and exciting.

Spider-Man B truly didn't want this young version of himself to repeat his mistakes.

"With great power comes great responsibility… and great burdens. It's both a gift and a curse.Don't ignore the people who care about you. And never, ever hurt them.Never."

With that final sentence, Spider-Man B ended the conversation.

Peter nodded seriously this time, committing every word to heart.

He thought of many things — of Spider-Man Noir's tragic experience, of the Amazing Spider-Man's struggles, even of how Iron Man's attitude had changed in his own world, and why the Sokovia Accords had divided so many heroes — even Captain America, the moral backbone of so many, had chosen the anti-registration side.

Spider-Man B hadn't meant to discourage him — only to guide him.

After all, who could understand Spider-Man better than another Spider-Man?

They weren't the same person, and yet… they were.Closer than twins, bound by something deeper.

So, Spider-Man B completely understood what Peter was feeling. He didn't try to stop him — he just hoped Peter would make his own choices wisely.

After their talk, Peter suggested Spider-Man B get some rest.

But Spider-Man B refused.

Spider-Men were built differently — going without sleep for a few days wasn't a big deal.

Otherwise, how could they study or work all day, then swing across the city fighting crime all night?

Still, under normal circumstances, they kept a routine — asleep by midnight, up in time for school or work, just to enjoy that exhilarating "cutting-it-close" morning rush like normal people.

But tonight was different — too much was at stake. So neither of them slept.

After several more hours of effort, they finally completed the new Reboot Key 2.0, testing it over and over to ensure nothing went wrong.

After the second round of testing, both of them exhaled in relief.

The first stage of their mission was complete.

Reboot Key 2.0 — acquired. √

"Big Peter, you should get some rest now," the younger Peter said, checking the clock. It was already four in the morning.

Based on their calculations, Fisk wouldn't be able to resist for long — by that afternoon or evening, he'd definitely restart the particle collider.

When that happened, they'd have a real battle on their hands.

Spider-Man B didn't argue.

Even though his body could handle sleepless nights, he'd grown used to a lazy, comfortable life — hence the slight belly and softer frame.

After a good stretch of leisure, an all-nighter hit harder than he expected.

Once Spider-Man B finally went to rest, Peter didn't.

He walked to a nearby machine — the one the blond Spider-Man had used to make suits.

He called it "Little Sewing Machine."

Though the name sounded quaint, it was actually a piece of advanced tech — equipped with analyzers, material designers, and precise robotic arms.

All he had to do was load the materials and design files, and it would assemble a new suit in no time.

Why make a new suit now?

Peter had been thinking ahead.

Earlier, he'd asked Spider-Man B to observe what happened to his body after his consciousness returned to his own world.

The result was disappointing.

Once he left, the body "died" again.

That meant one thing — if he kept acting under the blond Spider-Man's identity, his sudden return from the dead would draw attention… and that would only bring trouble for Aunt May and Mary Jane.

He could simply walk away — but then, once he was gone, the blond Spider-Man would be dead again.

And that…That would be irresponsible.
