After enduring Aunt May's barrage of questioning, Peter collapsed onto his bedroom bed, utterly exhausted.
It turned out Peter had messed up the schedule.
Aunt May was supposed to be out all day Saturday this week, but to spend the weekend with Peter, she'd swapped with a colleague and moved it to next Monday.
She had mentioned it.
But Peter, preoccupied with the matter of Toomes's weapon workshop, hadn't paid her much attention.
The result? Aunt May returned this afternoon and waited for him for two hours at the restaurant during dinner, calling him countless times, none of which he answered!
Because when he left, to avoid his phone getting damaged in a fight, he'd left it in his backpack at home.
He'd been relying on the suit's built-in communication system since then.
The communication device used Stark Industries' communication satellites, so there was no need to dial like a regular phone.
With no other choice, Peter used the excuse of his internship with Stark Industries.
Strictly speaking, it wasn't really lying to Aunt May.
Because the two things he'd submitted to Tony Stark a week ago were now actually being produced by a company under Stark Industries, and he was expected to receive his first dividend in a month – at least, that's what Tony Stark had said.
Peter had originally planned to keep this as a surprise, to show Aunt May when he received the dividend.
But now, to get through today, he had no choice but to reveal it.
Fortunately, he had gotten away with it. As long as he informed Tony Stark tomorrow, oh wait, would he even care about the little Spider-Man? No, that's not right. Tonight, I caught Toomes and destroyed his weapons workshop.
The FBI had been looking for them for months, and I only took a week. That should be enough to prove my ability, right?
Peter lay on the bed and closed his eyes.
Before going to sleep, he glanced at the glowing spider web in his mind.
It had become his bedtime habit since he got it.
However, it had been in a black state for the past week.
But now... Peter found that it was lit up!
An extra point of light appeared.
Peter was overjoyed.
Because he knew that this meant another new world had appeared!
And he would also be able to merge with a new Spider-Man and experience a new life!
When Peter's consciousness moved to this point of light, the number of the newly appeared world surfaced: Earth-1610B.
"Why is there a B?" Peter wondered.
After thinking for a while, he couldn't figure it out, so he temporarily put the thought aside.
Since it appeared, he might as well go and take a look!
With a thought, Peter began to connect to the network.
"Where am I?"
Peter opened his eyes and found himself in a pitch-black environment.
And the air around him seemed very thin.
After reaching out and feeling around a few times, Peter basically confirmed that he should be inside a sealed container.
The container was square, like a coffin?
Peter was startled by his own thought.
Could it be that the Spider-Man of this world is dead?
And he, himself, had been resurrected in the body of this world's Spider-Man?
Another discovery further solidified this thought.
Previously, when he merged with Spider-Man Noir and Amazing Spider-Man, he would quickly gain some memory fragments, allowing him to better adapt to his new identities.
But this time, he received no memory fragments.
He was now Peter, possessing the body of another Spider-Man.
Or, rather, a corpse?
I wouldn't be covered in maggots, would I?
A vision of his own face filled Peter's mind, the flesh rotten and falling from his bones. He grinned, and his cheek fell off; he blinked, and his eyeballs tumbled from their sockets. Then, a maggot peeked out, wriggling as if waving.
Ew!
Peter shuddered, starting to consider whether he should even go outside and continue this world's adventure.
Just then, he faintly heard someone speaking.
Because he was buried underground, inside a coffin, and because this body seemed to have lost its bodily functions for a while, he felt quite weak.
This made the voices he heard very soft and intermittent.
Fortunately, the surroundings were quiet, so if he listened carefully, he could still hear some.
"Sorry, Mr. Parker, the one you gave me... I might have broken it."
"I also want to comply... but I'm sorry... not sure."
"I can't do it alone without you!"
The voice outside sounded very young, similar to the version of him in the main universe.
It was obvious that this guy was in a state of confusion, and he knew the Spider-Man of this world.
Furthermore, from his words, Peter learned that the Spider-Man of this world was also named Peter Parker!
Thinking this, Peter reached up and touched his face.
His skin was a little dry, probably due to dehydration and microbial decomposition after being placed in a coffin for a while.
Fortunately, it wasn't what he thought. It seemed that this Spider-Man hadn't been dead for very long.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief.
And, he also discovered something else.
Judging from the texture of his skin, this Spider-Man was clearly not old, so he hadn't died of old age, but rather, had passed away young for some reason.
He decided to go out and take a look.
It wasn't just for the little boy who'd said "I can't do this without you" at Spider-Man's grave, but also because of Aunt May.
So far, it seemed every Spider-Man he knew had an Aunt May.
He couldn't imagine the pain this world's Aunt May would suffer if this world's Spider-Man died.
If he could, he wanted to do something for this Spider-Man, even if it was just to help her.
Maybe, he could even avenge this Spider-Man.
That way, it wouldn't be a waste of his time here.
Thinking this, Peter began to push against the coffin lid with all his might.
But this body had been out of commission for too long. The fact he could even lift his hand was thanks to Spider-Man's already powerful physique.
It was just that pushing a coffin buried under a thick layer of soil was probably...
As Peter struggled to lift the lid of his coffin, something changed outside.
A young Black boy was talking to a tombstone.
He was wearing a cheap Spider-Man suit bought from a store, and he looked utterly dejected.
At this moment, a tall figure landed behind him, quietly approaching.
"Hey," the tall figure said, placing a hand on the Black boy's shoulder.
The boy was startled, quickly pulling down his hood and turning around.
Zzzzt—
A current of electricity erupted from his body.
Boom!
The tall figure screamed and was sent flying.
However, before he flew out, he shot a web from his hand, which stuck to the black boy.
