After Iron Man left, Peter didn't linger. He quickly departed from Stark Tower.
On his way back, Peter didn't take off his Spider-Suit. Instead, he rode a bus, still wearing it.
That's right, he "rode" it.
He found a bus headed to Queens, jumped onto the roof, and hitched a ride.
The bio-static clinging ability granted by his spider powers allowed him to easily adhere to any surface. Even with the bus accelerating, braking, or making sharp turns, it felt no different than sitting on level ground.
Well, maybe a little bumpy.
Lying on his back on the bus roof, Peter activated the communication device on his Web-Shooter.
The AI Girl on his Spider-Suit had just notified him of a message from an "unknown" sender.
Peter opened it and took a look.
Uh, "unknown"? It's clearly from Tony Stark.
The message clearly contained some information about the "mission" he had just received at Stark Tower.
Actually, the Special Affairs Bureau didn't have much information either. It was mainly about the recent clashes between several underground gangs in New York. Witnesses had filmed some videos, and they were using energy weapons!
Due to the angle and distance of the videos, the clarity wasn't very good. However, based on comparisons, the appearance of the weapons still resembled Earth's kinetic weapons.
What did that mean?
It meant someone had combined energy weapons and kinetic weapons, creating a cut-down version of energy weapons.
But even if it was a cut-down version, it was still an energy weapon!
A powerful, handheld energy cannon could turn a person into a pile of ashes with a single shot, guaranteeing even their mother wouldn't recognize them.
And some cluster weapons could easily cut through some armor.
This was already beyond the scope of the gun control laws!
Although the Constitution doesn't specify the types of firearms, both the federal government and individual states have their own interpretations regarding gun control.
Specifically, the purchase of fully automatic weapons, short-barreled long guns, silencers, and weapons of mass destruction, explosives, and so on, requires extremely strict local and federal review.
Energy Weapons' power far exceeds kinetic weapons, already falling into the category of weapons of mass destruction.
This kind of unregistered activity is obviously illegal.
Furthermore, they were engaging in a firefight in a residential area.
One wrong move could easily harm innocent civilians.
However, based on the information Iron Man provided, Peter also found some potentially useful clues.
First, since these neutered Energy Weapons were manufactured by combining kinetic weapons and Energy Weapons, it indicates that they should have at least one manufacturing plant.
And the scale shouldn't be small.
Small workshops can't process and manufacture Energy Weapons.
So, he might start by checking some "abandoned factories" near Queens and Brooklyn.
The factories are indeed abandoned, but that's just a facade, a marker.
Perhaps it will be used by those with ulterior motives, secretly converted into a weapons workshop.
After all, "abandoned" means no one pays attention, no taxes, and so on, with many conveniences.
Secondly, the source of the Energy Weapons.
First, rule out that these Energy Weapons were developed by themselves.
Why?
If they developed this themselves, there's no reason to combine it with the casing of kinetic weapons.
With this technology, they could get a lot of support by either collaborating with the government or partnering with a large corporation like Stark Industries. They wouldn't have to be so secretive.
Their behavior clearly points to one reason—they're up to no good.
So, what's the biggest, and most easily leaked, source of energy weapons?
The Chitauri invasion!
There were many videos circulating from the Battle of New York eight years ago that shocked the world.
Peter was still young at the time, but he saw a lot of them.
Amongst the weapons used by the Chitauri, there were energy rifles and energy cannons. The Chitauri's flying vehicles were also equipped with large-caliber energy cannons. All of these were various types of Energy Weapons.
However, Peter didn't know where these Energy Weapons ended up, or what happened to the remains of the Chitauri army.
He vaguely remembered seeing people cleaning up the area that had been sealed off.
"AI Girl, do I have access to some of the Avengers' file archives?" Peter asked.
"Authorization required. Would you like to request authorization?" AI Girl replied.
"Yes, of course," Peter said.
"Please wait. Awaiting confirmation from Mr. Stark." AI Girl paused, and after a moment, her voice sounded again, "Authorization granted, Peter. You may now access the information within your authorized scope."
"Okay, thank you, AI Girl."
"You're welcome, Peter."
"Could you pull up information about what happened after the 2012 Battle of New York?" Peter asked.
"Certainly, Peter, it's displayed now." Karen replied.
A screen appeared on Peter's watch.
A lot of relevant information popped up.
Peter quickly browsed through it and soon filtered out some useful information.
After the Battle of New York, the restoration and cleanup of New York City was taken over by a government agency named Damage Control, jointly established by the U.S. federal government and Stark Industries.
Over the years, Damage Control had become a real official agency. They were also in charge of the follow-up work after the recent Sokovia Accords.
And that meant Damage Control possessed a large number of high-tech materials.
The mysterious weapon maker likely obtained their raw materials from Damage Control!
Unfortunately, even though Iron Man was the proponent and founder of Damage Control, he had handed the agency over, and it was no longer under his control.
Therefore, Peter's idea of checking if Damage Control had any records of missing items was a dead end.
However, Peter didn't get discouraged.
Because he had found some other things.
For example, actually, right after the Battle of New York ended, before Damage Control was even established, the New York City government had commissioned a company to help them clean up the war wreckage.
And the name of that company was "Bestman Salvage."
Bestman Salvage was a waste recycling company, primarily engaged in waste recycling and disaster cleanup work in the past.
However, since then, Bestman Salvage was shut down.
The only information available was that the original head of Bestman Salvage was: Adrian Toomes!
This name sounded somewhat familiar to Peter!
In the world of Shadow Spider-Man, the Vulture, who was decisively killed by the merged Shadow Spider-Man Peter for attacking Aunt May, his original name was Adrian Toomes!
