Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 20

Zane

The man standing there had black hair and golden eyes. He wore a long black coat over a white shirt and black pants.

He was huge — and his eyes were only on me as he stood in the doorway.

"Devid! You're finally here, my son!" my mom exclaimed.

Wait… her son? She had such a big son? Then… is he my older brother? How come I never heard about him all these years? And we even have the same hair and eyes.

Devid walked toward us, his gaze fixed on me as he stopped in front of us.

Mom quickly went to him, pushing me aside as if I were in her way — even though I wasn't. She threw her arms around him and started to cry. Dad and Arin rushed to join in.

Oh my, this melodrama was just too much. I sat down on the sofa — thankfully, it was empty. My two babies sat beside me, and Vien took the seat next to them.

This family is really cartoonish. They were yelling at me a few minutes ago, and now they're crying after seeing their eldest son.

I rolled my eyes, only to notice my babies glaring at my family.

"Dad, those people are really baddies. I hope that old lady falls down the stairs, breaks her neck, but stays alive — with her knees and hands broken too so she becomes a limp forever," Nilo said, clenching his little fists in anger.

"Yes! And that old man should just die by the hand of a killer. He doesn't deserve to live," Nico added.

I gently patted both their heads. "Don't say things like that, kiddos. It's nothing. They're just jealous of your dad — that's why they act like this."

When I looked ahead again, my family was still crying, but Devid didn't seem as happy as they were. And that bitch Arin — the way he was hugging Devid, like he was his real brother or something.

"Brother Devid," Arin said sweetly, "Mom and Dad told me so much about you since I was little. You're finally back — I finally get to meet you!"

When I heard that, I froze. Wait, so Arin knew about Devid since childhood? But my parents never told me. Not even my grandparents said a word. I was in a special school, so it should've been their duty to tell me — but they didn't.

We even look alike. So why do my parents hate me so much, yet love my older brother and that brat Arin? What did I do to deserve their hatred?

As I was lost in thought, Vien leaned closer. "Is he really your older brother?"

"I don't know. This is my first time seeing him. I didn't even know I had one," I replied.

I leaned back on the sofa, folding my arms across my chest, my eyes scanning Devid and my family.

Then Arin turned to me, then back to Devid. "Brother, he was bullying me. Can you scold him?" he said in a disgustingly whiny tone, like a child begging for candy.

Devid didn't answer. He simply took a few steps toward me. When he stopped, I looked up at him, expressionless — cold and calm.

I knew what was coming. He'd probably defend that bitch Arin, just like my parents always did. But if he crossed the line, I wouldn't stay quiet.

"You're Zane, right?" Devid asked, his voice calm, his face unreadable.

I stood, facing him directly. "Yes, that's my name. Why are you asking?"

A small smile tugged at his lips before he suddenly grabbed both my hands and pulled me into a hug.

"Zane, my cute little brother! Finally, I get to meet you!" he said.

I froze, caught completely off guard. I didn't expect him to hug me — or say something like that.

"Devid, what are you doing? He's not your brother! Arin is your brother! Care about Arin, not him!" my mother shouted from behind.

I pushed Devid away and stepped back. "Stay away from me — go to your brother."

Arin immediately clung to Devid's arm. "See, brother? You tried to be kind, but look at him! He's so selfish. He doesn't care about anyone but himself!"

Before I could reply, two little voices shouted from behind him.

"Our dad isn't selfish — it's you who's selfish, fish!" my kids yelled in unison.

I almost burst out laughing but held it in, glancing back to silence them with my eyes.

When I turned forward again, Devid was staring at my kids, then his gaze flicked to me. In the next moment, he turned sharply to Arin, shoved him away, and brushed his arm off as if touched by something filthy.

"Don't you dare touch me again with those dirty hands of yours!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the room. His eyes burned with disgust.

I blinked, confused. What was going on? I thought he liked Arin — just like my parents.

"You are not my brother," Devid said firmly. "I have only one younger brother — and that's Zane."

His words hit the room like thunder. My parents froze, their eyes wide with shock.

"Devid, you're coming back after twenty years, and this is how you behave? Your younger brother is Arin, not Zane!" my father snapped.

Devid's eyes turned sharply toward him.

"Don't tell me what to do. And I can clearly see why you never sent me any photos of Zane all these years," he said coldly.

That stunned me. My older brother — the one I never even knew existed — had known about me all along? And after twenty years, when he finally returned, he recognized me right away.

"Did you already know about me?" I asked quietly.

As soon as I spoke, his expression softened. The sharpness in his eyes faded, replaced by something gentler. I couldn't tell what he wanted from me — it's not like we were close brothers or anything. This was literally our first meeting, so I didn't feel any attachment to him.

"Yes, I knew," Devid replied. "All these years, I was just waiting for the right moment to come back and meet you."

And right at that moment, I noticed Viktor standing by the door — with the same girl he had been hugging earlier. His expression was dark, his eyes fixed on Devid in a deadly glare.

Our eyes met for a brief second. I looked away, pretending to ignore him and turned my attention back to Devid. But suddenly, Viktor stormed inside, grabbed Devid by the collar, spun him around, and punched him square in the face.
