Chapter 152Lily's POV
What if Jane did this to her, just to hurt me? What if….what if Joe and Ivan all planned this together?
The thought wrapped around my chest like chains, suffocating me.
"What did that poor woman ever do to deserve all of this?" My voice cracked as I collapsed onto the bed, hugging my knees. "All she did was have a deadbeat for a husband… and me for a daughter."
The sobs came, ugly and loud. My throat burned, my chest heaved. "If only I hadn't gone after Joe. If only I'd never stepped foot in that cursed palace. None of this would've happened. She wouldn't be rotting in that cell and.. I wouldn't be here."
I buried my face into my arms and screamed. "This is all Joe's fault! He should've just left me alone from the beginning!"
But even as the words tore out of me, guilt immediately followed. My tears slowed into hiccups, into trembling breaths.
No… Joe couldn't have done this. He was reckless, yes. Manic, often. But cruel in this way? No.
