The tension on the Boneyard was thick enough to taste. Silver D. Morgan's ultimatum was not a threat; it was a promise, backed by forty years of festering hatred. Marco and Kuzan instinctively shifted into combat stances, ready for a battle that would surely level the entire archipelago.
But Ace didn't move. He just stood there, his expression calm, and then he did something no one expected. He laughed. It wasn't a loud, boisterous laugh, but a low, sharp, and deeply amused chuckle.
"You're right," Ace said, the sound disarming the old king for a fraction of a second. "This is your hunt. Your vengeance. I have no right to it."
Morgan's eyes narrowed. "What trick is this, boy?"
"No trick," Ace said, his voice direct and to the point. He was no longer a rival; he was a strategist. "You and I both want the same thing: to see Marshall D. Teach and the legacy of Rocks D. Xebec wiped from existence. A head-on charge is exactly what he expects. It's a waste of your power."
He took a step forward, his gaze unwavering. "So I'll make you a proposition. An alliance. You want to destroy Xebec's legacy? Let's start with that woman who is still whispering his ambitions into the world."
Morgan's grip on his axe tightened. "Speak plainly."
"Miss Bakkin," Ace stated, the name like a drop of poison. "The woman from Rocks's crew. She's allied herself with Teach. She's guiding a her monster son named Edward Weevil who is butchering my father's allies. They are a direct, living piece of the history you want to erase."
He gave Morgan a sharp, knowing grin. "I have their last known location. Let's hunt them together. Your power and my strategy. We will dismantle his new empire, piece by piece, before we go for that bastard. We'll start by taking his new knight and queen off the board."
Morgan stared, his mind, which had been set on a single, straight path for forty years, now presented with a logical, efficient alternative. The boy was right. It wasn't just about killing Teach; it was about destroying his entire legacy, and the witch Bakkin was a core part of that.
The old king was silent for a long, heavy moment. Then, a slow, harsh laugh escaped his lips. "You truly are Roger's son." He hefted his axe. "Fine. We have an alliance, for now. Lead the way, boy. We will hunt the witch. But know this."
His eyes burned with the fire of his unbreakable vow. "The moment she is dead... Teach is next. And the final blow belongs to me."
He turned and began walking towards the Burning Crown Pirates' fleet, a man from the past joining the war of the new era.
New Marineford, Office of the Fleet Admiral...
"Fools! He's playing them all for fools!" Fleet Admiral Sakazuki roared, slamming his fist on his desk. The molten rock burned a new, fuming crater in its surface. Before him was a report, detailing the events on the Boneyard and the new, terrifying alliance.
"Ara ra... that's a bit harsh," Kizaru drawled from his position on the sofa. "It sounds like they're building quite the team. Seems very efficient."
"It's chaos!" Akainu snarled. "The Burning Crown Pirates, Blackbeard, Dragon and now this Morgan... All 'D's vying for control of the New World. We should strike now, while they are divided, and burn them all from the face of the earth!"
Just as he spoke, the doors to his office opened. It was Sengoku. He was no longer in his admiral's uniform, but a simple suit. His expression was grim.
"Sengoku-san?" Kizaru said, sitting up slightly. "What are you doing here?"
"I was ordered to come," Sengoku said, his voice heavy. "By Commander-in-Chief Kong. He believed my knowledge was necessary after what happened at Marineford."
He placed a hand on Akainu's desk, his gaze serious. "Sakazuki. You are looking at this war as a problem of pirates. You are wrong. This is a matter of theology."
He began to explain. He spoke of the Void Century, of a legendary figure named Davy D. Jones, the progenitor of a cursed bloodline that opposed the gods of the world. He spoke of how this will was inherited, passed down through the generations, culminating in the monstrous ambition of Rocks D. Xebec, who didn't just want to be a king, but a god.
"And now," Sengoku said, his voice a low whisper, "that will, that curse, has been inherited by Marshall D. Teach. He is not just Xebec's son. He is the final vessel for a will that has been trying to consume the world for 800 years."
Akainu listened like a dog he was, his usual explosive rage being replaced by a cold, absolute silence. This wasn't about justice anymore. This was about exterminating a heresy that threatened the very foundation of the world order he served.
"Then my course is clear," Akainu said, his voice a low growl that sounded like grinding continents. He stood up, his body radiating a heat that made the very air in the room shimmer. "This is no longer a war on piracy. It is a holy crusade."
His eyes burned with the fire of a zealot. "I will not wait for them to weaken each other. I will go to the New World myself. And I will burn this 'curse' from the face of the earth, even if I have to burn the entire sea to do it."
