The silence in the Moby Dick's map room was heavier than any mountain. Ace's declaration—had extinguished the last embers of their victory celebration, replacing it with a cold, hard dread. They were no longer just a pirate crew at war with a rival; they were marked for extermination by the full, fanatical might of the World Government too.
"So, what's the plan, Captain?" Marco asked, his voice a low, grim whisper. "We can't fight them head-on. Not with his entire fleet."
"Running is not an option either," Silver D. Morgan growled, his hand gripping his axe. "A man does not run. He fights."
"Ara ra... fighting a tsunami is just another way of drowning," Kuzan drawled, his lazy posture doing nothing to hide the seriousness in his eyes.
As they debated their impossible situation, the frantic squawking of a news coo interrupted them. The bird, looking utterly terrified, dropped a bundle of freshly printed papers on the deck and fled as if Akainu himself were on its tail.
A pirate snatched one. His eyes went wide. "Captain... you need to see this."
Ace took the paper, and his world, which was already tilting on its axis, completely upended.
The front page was dominated by a new, monstrously high bounty poster. It was a dark, sneering photo of Marshall D. Teach. But the name was different. It was the name Ace had revealed to the world, now made official. DAVY D. TEACH. And beneath it, a number that made Ace's own legendary bounty look like a child's allowance.
DEAD OR ALIVE: DAVY D. TEACH - 3,247,600,000 BERRIES
"Three billion..." Marco whispered in disbelief. "They've officially branded him the one of world's greatest evil."
"They're not wrong," Ace muttered, his eyes cold. But that wasn't all. Another headline on the page sent a jolt through him. BIG MOM PIRATES CLAIM FISH-MAN ISLAND!
The article detailed how, in the power vacuum left by Whitebeard's injury, the Big Mom Pirates had made their move, offering "protection" to the island in exchange for a tribute of ten tons of sweets a month. The article noted that King Neptune had yet to give a response.
"She dares..." a low growl rumbled from the infirmary. Whitebeard, who had been listening, was shaking with a quiet fury. Fish-Man Island was his sacred territory, his promise to an old friend.
On a Revolutionary Army ship, somewhere in Paradise...
"I can't believe it..."
Sabo stared at the same newspaper, his hands trembling, tears streaming down his face. The memories, triggered by the news of Marineford, had come crashing back in a flood of fire and brotherhood. He was no longer just the Revolutionaries' Chief of Staff. He was a brother who had failed.
"I have to go to him," he said, his voice choked with a decade of repressed grief and guilt.
"Are you sure that's wise?" a calm, feminine voice asked. Nico Robin, who had been reading over his shoulder, adjusted her sunglasses. "The son of the Pirate King, now the captain of his own legendary crew, allied with a former Admiral... He is at the very center of the coming storm. Approaching him would be... dangerous." Her curiosity, however, was palpable.
"He's my brother!" Sabo declared, his own blue flames flickering to life around his fist. "And I'm not losing him again."
"I'm coming with you," a cheerful voice added. Koala, her face a mixture of concern for her friend and excitement for an adventure, popped up beside him. "Someone has to make sure you don't do anything stupid!"
Back on the Moby Dick, Ace stared at the map, the new pieces of the puzzle clicking into place with horrifying clarity. Akainu was hunting him. Blackbeard was growing stronger. And now Big Mom was stealing his father's legacy right out from under him. He was being attacked from three sides. A normal man would be overwhelmed.
But Ace was not a normal man. He was a person with future memories. And he saw the path.
"Fish-Man Island," Ace said, his voice dangerously quiet. The commanders turned to look at him.
"We can't fight Big Mom now, Ace," Marco said. "Not with Akainu on our tail."
"We're not going to fight her," Ace said. His eyes flickered with a cunning that was both brilliant and utterly insane. He was remembering a story. A ridiculous, ancient pirate game. A game dedicated to the very man whose name Teach now carried. "We're going to challenge her."
He looked at his commanders, at the legends standing in his war room, and a slow, predatory grin spread across his face. It was the smile of a man who was about to flip the entire chessboard.
"Blackbeard wants to inherit the will of Davy? Fine. Let's show the world what that name really means."
"Marco," he commanded, his voice ringing with a new, wild energy. "Get me Morgans on the line. I have a message for Charlotte Linlin."
His grin was pure, chaotic joy.
"Tell her the Captain of the Burning Crown Pirates is challenging her to a Davy Back Fight. The prize? Fish-Man Island."
