Mattias yawning with heavy eyelids, as light filled into the room. a rhythmic hum came from his side subtle, almost like breathing and the faint scent of herbs lingered. He blinked once, twice, and slowly sat up,
"Ugh… where… am I? Was that all a dream " he muttered, rubbing his temple.
"Sadly, no it wasn't," Levin replied, lifting a tray of tools with one hand. "You slept long for a long while there." His tone was flat but slightly amused
Mattias blinked at him. "Wait… I… I passed out? How long?"
"About three days," Levin said,"oh and the other kids is stable now whag was his name again."
Mattias frowned alittle at that. "Miras? he's … okay?"
Levin waved a hand as he began walking out the room. "Yeah, he's resting. The burns were bad so I had to cut off his wings."
"YOU WHAT!!!" Mattias said jumping out of the bed. "Where is he."
Levin didn't look up from his tray of tools. "I won't recommend that."
Mattias stopped in his tracks. "What the hell are you talking about? Why wouldn't it he recommend for me to see him?"
Levin's eyes flicked to him, calm as a pond. "It means what you think, his still unconscious and I can't have you disturbing his recover."
Mattias looked down at the ground, knowing that Levin was right. "How would I disturb him?"
Levin glancing at him, lifted a gloved hand to gesture at Mattias. "Because his in a weakened state and needs some condensed flux to speed up his recovery."
Mattias blinked at the explanation. "I… okay, I guess. But what is condensed flux?"
Levin waved a hand toward him, expression neutral. "Your going to keep asking me questions aren't you."
Mattias sighted at his remark "Your not wrong I have alot questions about everything"
Levin starting to move once more, lifted one of Miras' burnt feathers. "What makes you sure I can answer them."
Mattias gave a small, tired laugh. "Just a hunch."
Levin returned the wing to its resting position, expression neutral as ever. "A hunch you say."
Levin turned his head at the doorway.
For a brief moment so brief Mattias almost missed it
"That's a dangerous habit," Levin said giving him a smile. "Trusting hunches."
He stepped out the door and slid it shut behind him.
Mattias stared at it for a second.
Then he exhaled and dragged a hand down his face. "Great. Woke up in a stranger's house, slept for three days, Miras lost his wings, and the grumpy doctor talks like he's deciding whether to dissect me or just kill me."
He fell on the bed closing his eyes.
Looking to the table at the corner of the room someone had left clean clothes out for him a white shirt and black pants
Mattias looked creepied out. "Creepy hospitality his like a completely different person from before."
Getting up, he begun undressing through lookingat his body he realized that he wasn't dirty anymore "well I should be glad I don't know how many days I had gone without a bath"
Putting on the shirt he look at his body which felt lighter , like when you take a dump and feel much better. When he tried taking a step everything before him went black
"Yeah, no," he muttered, passing his foot hard on the ground as everything came into vision again "am collapsing again"
A soft knock came from the door.
Before he could answer, it opened.
Theo peeked in, eyes immediately lighting up. "Oh you really are awake!"
Mattias blinked. "You're loud."
Theo grinned unapologetically and stepped in. "You've been out for three days. Elizabeth said you were dead ."
"…The one that shot at me with that weird energy."
Theo laughed, then caught himself and lowered his voice. "How do you feel?"
Mattias considered the question.
"Better," he said honestly. "Hungry too."
Theo nodded like this was reasonable. "Yeah, that checks out."
He leaned against the wall, arms crossed. "Levin told you about Miras?"
Mattias's expression hardened alittle. "He's alive. That's enough I guess."
Theo quietly studied him. "You really scared Elizabeth, you know that why she was acting like that."
Mattias looked up. "Elizabeth? Oh you mean the girl"
"Yeah," Theo added.
Mattias opened his mouth, then closed it again.
"I didn't mean to," he said finally.
Theo shrugged. "I know. That I could tell by how you didn't attack."
Silence stretched between them.
Then Theo cleared his throat. "Anyways Levin says you should eat before you start thinking too hard. Something about you having questions.'"
Mattias snorted. "Of course he did that guy is really creepy."
Theo laughed and then turned to leave, pausing the door. "Oh. One more thing."
Mattias raised a brow.
"When you were out," Theo said, "We gave you a bath and put you in the patient rob."
Mattias stiffened.
Theo continued quickly, "Levin handled it, so its fine" He hesitated. " and he said you smelled like a rotting corpse."
Mattias looked away.
"Tell him," Mattias said quietly, "to shave it."
Theo gave him a small chuckle then nodded and left.
