The Green Lantern Corps wasn't weak.
They were an ancient peacekeeping force for a reason.
Morin had agreed to stir things up for two reasons.
First, to test his own limits.
Second, to find more clients.
He'd considered sparring with Clark instead, but the Superman factor made him hesitate.
What if Clark lost control?
It wasn't likely, given Clark's personality.
Still, Morin preferred starting with the Corps.
At first, the Lanterns came one by one.
Then Morin started kicking them away effortlessly.
While insulting them.
That's when they stopped holding back.
Two at a time.
Four.
Eight.
Finally, the entire Corps surged forward together, green light blazing, rage obvious.
Vast waves of energy collided at the center of the plaza.
Some Lanterns, caught up in the moment, unleashed attacks powerful enough to crack the ground of Oa itself.
BAM.
Morin shattered a massive energy construct with a single punch.
He glanced down at the damage.
"If this keeps up, we'll wreck the planet," he said calmly. "Let's take it to space."
He wasn't here to destroy their home.
He shot upward, straight into the void.
Thousands of Lanterns followed, swarming after him like enraged green hornets.
From a distance, it looked like a tiny black dot pulling a massive cone of emerald light behind it.
Moments later-
A meteor shower began.
Green meteors.
The Lanterns were falling back to Oa.
-
"Abin Sur."
"Guardians?" Abin Sur blinked.
"Come to the Great Hall."
"Yes."
"And if possible," the voice added, "bring the consort of that warrior. Remember-invite her. Politely."
"I understand."
Abin Sur turned to Diana. "My lady. The Guardians request your presence."
"The Guardians?" Diana was surprised.
"Old immortals who call themselves protectors," Morin's voice sounded in her head. "The elders. Don't worry. Go. If they're stupid enough to try something, I'll teach them despair."
Diana glanced toward the sky.
Morin was fighting an army in space.
And still talking to her.
"How strong are you?" she asked quietly.
"I'm fine," Morin replied. "Third strongest in the world, maybe."
He wasn't joking entirely.
No Doctor Manhattan here, as far as he knew.
That left Superman.
And the Flash.
One was basically a god.
The other was a walking plot hole.
As for Batman-
As long as Bruce didn't get prep time, Morin wasn't worried.
"Be careful," Diana said.
"Relax."
Morin punched a Lantern wielding a massive axe straight out of the sky.
Diana followed Abin Sur, flying effortlessly behind him.
-
"Guardians," Abin Sur bowed.
He was nervous.
He'd brought Morin here.
And now that same man was single-handedly dismantling the entire Corps.
He glanced up.
The green meteor shower was still ongoing.
Some Lanterns managed to stop their fall and fly back up-
Only to be knocked down again seconds later.
Abin Sur's eye twitched.
My career is over.
"Abin Sur," one Guardian nodded, then turned to Diana.
Its face twisted into something that vaguely resembled a smile.
Terrifying.
"We sense immense power in you, Lady. You are no ordinary being."
"And?" Diana floated upward until she was eye-level with them.
If her man was out there representing, she wasn't letting anyone look down on her.
"...."
The Guardians exchanged glances.
They decided to ignore the breach of etiquette.
Given that her partner was currently bench-pressing their entire army, discretion seemed wise.
They communicated silently.
"We wish to confirm something," one Guardian said at last. "Your partner... is he from Krypton?"
Before Diana could answer-
Dark metallic particles on her armor shifted.
They gathered.
Reformed.
A miniature figure stepped forward.
A metal Morin.
Every Guardian leaned back instinctively.
That metal.
That luster.
Kryptonian nanotechnology.
"You know of Krypton?" the metal Morin asked.
"...Yes," the Guardian said slowly. "But Krypton was destroyed."
"It was," Morin agreed. "That doesn't mean every Kryptonian died."
"Are you... one of them?"
Morin smiled.
"Let's just say this."
"My brother is a Kryptonian."
The Guardians froze.
If his brother is Kryptonian, then what is he?
Damn it.
We let one into Oa.
At least there's no yellow sun here.
And he seems... friendly.
Ish.
"We must launch an immediate counterattack! He's too dangerous!"
"He hasn't killed anyone. He's not an enemy-yet."
"It could be deception!"
"If we provoke him and he has more Kryptonian allies, Oa will burn. Parallax has returned. We cannot afford another god-level enemy."
"...Agreed. Ascertain his purpose. Verify it with everything we have."
Consensus reached.
"We welcome you," the Guardians said aloud. "State your purpose."
"Haha. You caught me," Morin said lightly. "The 'primitive species' excuse was just that. An excuse."
"My real goal is simple."
"I want the Green Lantern Corps to sign up for my gym."
"But I figured no one would listen if I didn't flex a little first."
Diana bit her lip, barely holding back laughter.
She knew Morin and Clark weren't biologically related.
Watching him bluff the so-called wisest beings in the universe was... entertaining.
"Truth."
"Truth."
"Truth."
The Guardians checked their readings.
Then relaxed.
Parallax and a Kryptonian family reunion would've ended their civilization.
A gym was strange.
But strange was better than apocalyptic.
"Then we welcome you," the Guardians nodded. "Abin Sur, you will oversee this matter."
"Thank you, Guardians."
Abin Sur accepted the command.
As he turned to leave with Diana, the metal Morin melted back into her armor.
"One more thing," a Guardian said, glancing skyward, where green lights were still falling. "Could you ask him to stop?"
"I think the Lanterns need this defeat," Abin Sur replied calmly.
"We've won for too long."
"We've become arrogant."
"Lanterns must be fearless-but not delusional."
"They need to face reality."
"You've changed, Abin Sur," a Guardian murmured.
"Facing death taught me humility," Abin Sur said. "Not everyone is lucky enough to be saved."
"A defeat now may save lives later."
"And if they lose courage? If they fear Parallax?"
"Then they were food for Parallax anyway," Abin Sur said bluntly.
"This is a filter."
"A cruel one."
"But necessary."
The Guardians conferred.
"...Very well."
"Abin Sur, you will take full control of the Parallax situation."
"And Corps administration."
"What?" Abin Sur froze. "Then what about Sinestro?"
I didn't want a promotion. Am I the boss now?
"Sinestro has shown flaws we can no longer ignore," the Guardian said. "He requires reflection."
"But-"
"It is a command."
"...I accept."
Diana leaned closer and whispered, "Is changing leaders always this casual?"
"The Corps is their tool," Morin's voice echoed in her mind. "They choose who holds it."
"And they're being smart."
"They want to stay on my good side."
"I saved Abin Sur."
"So now they're using him to keep me happy."
