Chapter 277 - Chapter 15: Then Come Together

"Are you sure about this?"

As they flew toward the assembly, Diana spoke through telepathy.

"This is an intergalactic organization. They won't be weak."

"They aren't," Morin replied calmly.

"But I'm confident. Especially with what I'm using right now-electromagnetism."

"...Electromagnetism?"

"Yes."

"The one I know?" Diana's eyes widened.

"One of the four fundamental forces?"

She wasn't the naive princess she used to be. Years of study had put her knowledge on par with a PhD. She understood exactly what that meant.

"The very same," Morin said.

"If I wanted to... I could tear Oa apart."

He wasn't exaggerating.

Magneto could threaten Earth. Morin's control over electromagnetism was at least on that level-ranging from atoms to galaxies. Destroying Oa was well within his ability.

"How much did you hold back," Diana asked suddenly,

"in our fights?"

"Which one?"

"All of them."

Morin paused.

"In the first one, I used my natural physical stats. I didn't hold back."

"And after that?"

"...Yeah."

"I see." Diana smirked.

"Then let me ask you this. Against all of them, how much effort are you planning to use?"

"Hm." Morin tallied things mentally-telepathy, electromagnetism, physique, magic.

"Hard to say without seeing everyone. But... maybe a quarter?"

Forms like Aatrox were mostly cosmetic now. They weren't his real trump cards anymore.

They passed the Central Power Battery and arrived at the massive plaza.

Thousands of Lanterns from countless species had gathered.

Naturally, the two people not in uniform became the focus immediately.

They landed directly on the high platform.

"Abin Sur," Sinestro said, descending. He had been about to begin his speech.

"I assume you're here to support me."

"I'm here to stop you," Abin Sur said quietly, stepping forward.

"But I won't be the one doing it."

"Two humans with no right to be here," Sinestro sneered,

"and one who got lucky. Abin Sur, you've changed. Cowardly. Foolish. This is your plan?"

"I suggest you-"

"I'll take over," Morin said, patting Abin Sur's shoulder.

"We're already here."

He'd come to Oa partly to slap faces, partly to scout potential gym members.

If the talk about "primitive species" hadn't annoyed him, he wouldn't have bothered showing off.

But he was annoyed.

And fighting usually helped.

"Hello," Morin said casually.

"I'm from Earth. A regular human with a few hobbies-too many to list. Right now, I'm a personal trainer."

His voice echoed directly into the minds of every living being on Oa.

Including the Guardians.

Expressions soured instantly.

Uninvited mental contact meant absolute vulnerability.

The Guardians activated their mental shielding at once.

"That was the fastest way to get your attention," Morin said.

He didn't push his telepathy further. Instead, an electromagnetic field amplified his voice, rolling it across the plaza.

"I'm here for two reasons. First, you're not strong enough to face Parallax. Abin Sur doesn't want you dying pointlessly, so he asked me to train you."

"Second, I don't like how you rank humans. Tomar-Re explained it to me-civilization level, potential, projections."

Morin spread his arms.

"So I think I need to demonstrate something."

"Here. On Oa. At the heart of the Green Lantern Corps."

"I challenge all of you at once."

"Me against every Lantern here."

Silence.

Even with many Lanterns away on duty, there were still five to six thousand present.

Every single one stiffened.

How long had it been?

No one had ever spoken like this.

No one had ever dared.

Especially not here.

"Do you understand what you're saying?" Sinestro's red skin seemed to glow.

His voice was calm. Too calm.

"I'm stating a fact," Morin replied.

"...Fine." Sinestro looked at Abin Sur.

"Do you agree, Abin Sur? The 'Greatest Green Lantern'?"

"For too long," Abin Sur said firmly,

"we've mistaken past victories for invincibility."

Since Morin had gone this far for him, Abin Sur had no choice but to stand with him.

"The universe is vast. There is always someone stronger. Our weapon is will, but will without humility becomes recklessness. Those who lead must see farthest-and bow lowest."

He didn't bother hiding his frustration.

Sinestro: "..."

Next time, just say my name.

"Then let strength decide!" Sinestro rose into the air.

"Morin, I accept!"

"Wait." Morin floated higher, ensuring he never had to look up.

"Just you?"

"Defeat me first!" Sinestro snapped, flying to the combat platform.

"Come! Prove you aren't a clown!"

"I'm not proving anything," Morin said, landing.

"I'm making an announcement."

"Use whatever weapons you want."

"Hah!" Sinestro sneered.

"Arrogant fool!"

He charged.

In Morin's mind, a thousand endings flashed past.

He chose the simplest.

BAM.

Sinestro was sent flying backward faster than he'd charged, slamming into the platform and carving out a crater.

"You-" Sinestro staggered up, eyes dark.

"I told you," Morin said, shaking his fist.

"You need more people. I'm still warming up."

"I was careless!" Sinestro roared, his ring flaring as twin swords formed. He charged again.

"A Lantern's weapon isn't the shape," Morin said calmly.

"It's the will behind it."

"Let's see yours."

Clang.

Clang.

The plaza froze.

Morin hadn't dodged. He hadn't blocked.

Sinestro's blades had struck his neck.

Nothing happened.

"Ah." Morin glanced at the swords, then at Sinestro.

"Not bad. I'm actually starting to feel something."

Crack. Crack.

Fractures raced across the constructs before they shattered into light.

"Hm." Morin tilted his head.

"Do I have to pay for those? I'm a little broke."

"..." Sinestro stared at him.

"Good eyes," Morin nodded.

"I see anger. I see will."

"...And a bit of fear."

Abin Sur: "..."

He leaned toward Diana.

"May I ask... how strong is he?"

He was worried Morin's taunting might push things too far.

And also-

How are you this naturally good at being infuriating?

"Relax," Diana said with a small smile, eyes shining.

"He's far beyond what you're imagining."

She thought she understood Morin.

Today proved otherwise.

This pride. This dominance. This effortless confidence.

To the Lanterns, he was a villain.

To her, he was like a luxury car she'd owned for years suddenly revealing an entire hidden system.

Strong enough to be arrogant-yet choosing to be gentle with her.

That contrast was dangerous.

"I have NEVER known fear!" Sinestro roared, forming a dagger and lunging.

"Tsk." Morin side-kicked him cleanly.

Sinestro tumbled across the platform.

"Fear isn't a sin," Morin said flatly.

"Everything alive feels it. What matters is whether you face it-or let it rule you."

"You've got a lot to learn, Mr. Sinestro."

"May I recommend a lifetime gym membership?"

Sinestro groaned, humiliated.

Then passed out.

Morin turned to the surrounding Lanterns.

"So."

"Who's next?"

"Honestly... just come together."
