"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 242: One Against Two
A suffocating aura flooded the clearing as black flames of magic curled around Kuroka Toujou. Fallen Angel Governor Azazel's power was black too, but even his flames never felt truly evil. Kuroka's, though—there was no mistaking the malice. Her presence radiated danger, the kind that made your skin crawl and your instincts scream.
As a nekomata—a breed already rare among the cat-demon clans—Kuroka was something rarer still: a cat-shō, gifted beyond measure. But the power that made her formidable also threatened to consume her. Those who lost themselves to it rarely found their way back.
A sickly-sweet, metallic tang drifted through the air. Rias and Koneko clamped hands over their mouths and noses, their bodies weakening, faces twisted in pain.
"Poison…" Rias whispered, voice trembling.
Draconis Yi barely noticed. His magic flared, burning away the toxins before they could touch him.
Kuroka cocked her head, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "Hmm? That's odd… It doesn't work on you? My poison mist is tailored for devils and youkai—even diluted, it should've dropped you."
She flashed a wicked smile, eyes glittering with sadistic delight. "Impressive. In that case, I won't kill you quickly. I'll take my time—slice you apart, piece by piece."
Rias's fury boiled over. "Kuroka Toujou! You murdered your master, became a stray, and left Koneko with scars she'll carry for life. After you abandoned her, she suffered in hell. When I found her, she barely knew what emotions were. All thanks to you!"
She fought through the poison, voice hoarse but fierce. "You betrayed your own blood. Koneko lost everything—she was mocked, scorned, nearly executed. I made her my Rook so she could live happily. What gives you the right to take her now?"
Rias's hands shook, but her resolve never wavered. She'd always treated her Peerage as family—Koneko most of all. Seeing Kuroka now, she couldn't hold back.
Koneko's eyes brimmed with tears. She clung to Rias's hand as if it were her lifeline.
"Kuroka-nee… I don't want to go with you. I want to stay here—to live my own life…"
Her voice rang out, clear and defiant. But Kuroka's expression hardened to ice.
"Then die. My sister doesn't need your care."
She swept her arm, sending a fresh wave of poison mist surging toward them. Youjutsu and magic twisted together, two deadly forces converging on their position.
Draconis Yi stepped forward, calm as ever. With a casual flick of his wrist, he shattered the incoming attack, dispersing the fusion spell like smoke.
Kuroka's smile faded. "How? I poured a lot of youjutsu into that."
Draconis Yi sighed. "You're Koneko's sister. I was holding back. Did you really think I was just here to watch?"
He raised his hand, sending slivers of magical energy into the air. They vanished instantly, but the poison mist dissipated as if scrubbed from existence.
"A hybrid array—magic circles and senjutsu, clever enough. But too easy to unravel."
His eyes glowed faintly gold. The effects of Endless Dusk layered over him, and he summoned the Divine Lament Shield, anchoring it protectively beside Rias and Koneko.
He'd face both enemies alone. He was certain of victory, but he wouldn't risk his friends.
His aura remained unreadable, but Kuroka and Bikou—masters of senjutsu—could sense the shift. Draconis Yi had become something else entirely: dangerous, unpredictable.
Bikou drifted closer, excitement sparkling in his gaze. "Kuroka, this guy's trouble. No wonder he beat Vali—he's a monster! We might actually lose! What a headache… but we have to take him down!"
Kuroka snorted. "You sound thrilled, monkey. Whatever. I just want my sister."
Bikou grinned, launching himself into the fray.
"Flying Nimbus! Ruyi Jingu Bang!"
Golden clouds swirled beneath his feet, and his iron staff expanded, roaring through the air toward Draconis Yi.
Draconis Yi vaulted upward, his leg whipping out to meet the staff. Metal rang like thunder, shockwaves rippling through the forest.
Holy-demonic power gathered at his fingertips. He clenched his fist, unleashing a punch that crashed into Bikou with bone-shattering force, sending him flying through the trees.
The sonic boom echoed, Bikou vanishing into the forest's depths.
Kuroka's face darkened. She raised both hands, channeling two distinct energies—magic and youjutsu.
A barrage of sinister magic arrows burst from the void, converging on Draconis Yi's vital points.
He summoned the Regalia Blade, weaving a shield of sword shadows that sliced each arrow from the air.
He countered with a single, devastating slash. Magic erupted from the blade, streaking toward Kuroka.
The attack struck—her body froze.
But Draconis Yi frowned. Something was off. The blow hadn't landed on flesh.
Kuroka's laughter echoed from every direction. "Nice try, but pointless. Hiding my real body in illusions is basic stuff."
Her voice seemed to come from everywhere. Dozens of Kuroka figures materialized among the trees—lounging, prowling, each one wild, seductive, and dangerous. All of them smiled at him.
The body he'd hit dissolved into mist.
"It's an illusion…" Rias warned, voice taut. Kuroka's mastery of illusion was unmatched—even Akeno couldn't rival her.
Koneko's fists clenched, anxiety etched into her features. "She's an ultimate-class devil. Can Draconis Yi…"
Rias squeezed her hand. "Don't worry. He's stronger than you think."
But guilt gnawed at her. "I'm a burden to him…"
Koneko's eyes dimmed. She felt the same.
No one had truly seen Draconis Yi unleash his full power. Kuroka and Bikou certainly hadn't.
Draconis Yi surveyed the illusion array, face impassive. He closed his fist, sending a ring of holy-demonic power radiating outward.
Purple-gold energy tore through the clearing, unstoppable. Kuroka's eyes widened in shock as every illusionary body was obliterated—smashed apart by raw, overwhelming force.
