"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 240: Koneko's Sister?
The brief intermission ended, and the arena challenges resumed—though Draconis Yi never received another invitation to fight.
Two new devils took the stage, trading blows with impressive ferocity, but the crowd's attention was elsewhere. Compared to these ordinary matches, everyone was far more interested in Draconis Yi. Would he face punishment for what he'd done?
Yet, as the minutes ticked by, Draconis Yi remained seated, perfectly composed. No one approached him, no accusations, no retribution.
Confusion rippled through the audience. He'd killed the heir of a noble house, right here in public—and nothing happened? Was he really untouchable just because of his ties to the Maou?
But the Glasya-Labolas family had a Maou connection too. Was their heir's death simply being ignored?
The crowd wasn't entirely naive. Whispers spread, messengers dispatched to sniff out the truth. News returned quickly: Zephyrdor had survived, revived by a Phoenix Tear.
So he wasn't actually dead?
No one doubted Draconis Yi's intent—his attack had looked lethal. But few truly understood the precision of Absolute Dominion, the way he could modulate even the deadliest blow.
"Tch. That bastard's luck is obscene. Wasting a Phoenix Tear on someone like him—what a joke," Seekvaira muttered, annoyance clear. She'd hoped Zephyrdor would stay dead.
"Who gave him the Phoenix Tear, anyway? Was it the Phoenix family?"
"They sell a lot of tears. No way to know for sure."
The crowd's chatter ignored the ongoing match entirely. It was clear—the entire incident had been swept under the rug.
Was someone protecting Draconis Yi? Lucifer-sama, perhaps? Was it really acceptable for the Maou to show such blatant favoritism?
Speculation swirled, but the challenges ended without Draconis Yi ever returning to the arena. The consensus was swift: this was not someone to provoke.
A monster, they thought. Best keep your distance.
Sirzechs's plan had worked perfectly. Draconis Yi's reputation was cemented—dangerous, untouchable, and now the center of every whispered conversation.
Sirzechs stepped forward, smiling warmly. "That concludes the arena challenges. Now, an announcement—the newcomer tournament will be held as scheduled, one week from today. The champion will become the leader of the new generation. This is the honor reserved for rising stars."
A hand shot up. "What does the champion actually get, besides the title?"
Sirzechs's eyes sparkled. "Plenty. The leader of the new generation will become a pillar of the Underworld. If his ideas benefit our world, all four Maou will support him fully."
The young devils in the crowd leaned forward, eyes burning. Support from all four Maou—this was more than glory. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to chase your wildest ambitions.
Sirzechs's gentle smile radiated charisma. "It seems you all have dreams. I'd love to hear about your goals for the future."
Sairaorg was the first to rise. "My goal is to become a Maou—and create a world where strength is everything, without divisions of rank or birth."
The dignitaries chuckled. "If the Bael family produces a Maou, that would be something to see."
Draconis Yi frowned, turning the idea over in his mind. If strength ruled all, could there truly be no divisions? The contradiction was obvious.
Rias was more grounded. She pledged to fulfill her duties as Gremory head first, then aim for greater things—starting with winning the newcomer tournament.
Her answer was ordinary, but Sirzechs had expected nothing less. He knew his sister well.
What he really wanted was Draconis Yi's answer. But as Rias's Peerage member, there would be time to ask after they'd claimed victory.
The truth was, the Maou already considered the outcome a foregone conclusion. Draconis Yi was a phenomenon—a high-class devil with the power to challenge Maou, and soon, the ability to clone himself in Rating Games. Ruthless didn't even begin to cover it.
Sairaorg and the others hadn't realized this yet. Even after witnessing Draconis Yi's power, the young generation still clung to the belief that they could surpass him.
Sirzechs wrapped up the proceedings. "Alright, everyone—go enjoy the party."
Officially, the gathering was meant for the young devils to relax. In reality, it was an excuse for the old guard to drink and gossip. Rias explained the situation to Draconis Yi with a helpless shrug.
She'd already spotted her father sneaking drinks around the hall.
As the party began, the crowd mingled, laughter and conversation filling the air. But Draconis Yi noticed one absence—Koneko Toujou was nowhere to be seen.
A faint frown creased his brow. Something felt off. He leaned toward Rias.
"Koneko? I haven't seen her either," Rias replied, concerned. She quickly summoned a server.
"The silver-haired girl went out that way," the attendant answered, pointing.
Rias wasted no time, calling her Familiar. After a brief exchange, the creature darted off, following Koneko's scent.
"My Familiar's found her trail. Let's go."
She and Draconis Yi hurried from the party, following the trail deep into the woods.
"What would she be doing out here alone?" Rias murmured, anxiety creeping into her voice. Koneko must have discovered something—why else come here by herself?
"She's close," Draconis Yi whispered, his senses sharp as ever.
He motioned for silence, then gently took Rias's hand, leading her behind a tree. Peering into a clearing, they spotted Koneko—silver hair gleaming, eyes scanning the shadows as if searching for something.
Suddenly, a voice drifted through the trees:
"It's been a long time, my dear little sister."
