"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 230: Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law
Stepping into the heart of the devil's castle, the group moved forward along an immaculate red carpet, the grandeur of the place impossible to ignore. Before they'd made it far, a small figure darted out from among the maids.
"Big Sister Rias, you're back!"
A red-haired boy barreled into Rias's arms, clinging to her with all the excitement of a child reunited with his favorite person.
"Millicas, I'm home." Rias laughed, ruffling his hair. "You've grown so much since I last saw you."
Her smile was pure affection. Turning to Draconis Yi and the others, she made introductions. "This is Millicas Gremory—my nephew. He's the son of my brother, Sirzechs Lucifer."
Draconis Yi blinked. Nephew? Then why was he calling her "big sister"? He shot Rias a sidelong glance, suspecting she'd encouraged the title herself. Still, it was surprising to realize Sirzechs's son was already this old—a bona fide prince, right in front of them.
Millicas greeted everyone with perfect manners. Draconis Yi responded with a friendly smile, while Asia and the rest were instantly smitten, promising to play with him later.
Then, a melodious voice echoed down the hall. "Rias, darling, you're back."
A woman approached—stunningly beautiful, dressed in formal attire, and looking barely older than Rias herself. The resemblance was uncanny: aside from her flaxen hair, her features mirrored Rias's almost perfectly.
Rias's face lit up. "Mother."
Asia and the others gaped. This impossibly elegant young woman was Rias's mother?
Draconis Yi was equally caught off guard. So this was his future mother-in-law…
On closer inspection, the family resemblance was obvious. Rias explained, half amused, half exasperated: "Devils can use magic to alter their appearance once they reach a certain age. Mother likes to keep herself looking about my age most of the time…"
Venelana—Rias's mother—smiled, eyes twinkling. "Oh, don't be rude. Women care about their looks, especially as the years go by. Is there anything wrong with that?"
Her gaze settled on Draconis Yi. "You must be Draconis Yi. I've heard plenty about you."
Draconis Yi bowed his head slightly, calm and composed. "It's an honor to meet you, ma'am."
"Venelana Gremory," she said, appraising him with obvious satisfaction. "You have a remarkable bearing. No wonder Rias is so taken with you—her taste is impeccable."
Rias flushed, mortified. "Mother…"
Venelana seemed more and more pleased, even mentioning that they could revisit marriage plans soon—leaving Rias speechless. She glanced at Draconis Yi, recalling Sona's earlier question about being ready for marriage. Truthfully, she wasn't sure. Was she prepared to become Draconis Yi's wife? Could she shoulder that responsibility? At the very least, shouldn't they wait until graduation?
From a human perspective, marriage now would be far too soon. Would Draconis Yi accept that? Rias's thoughts were all for him—but devil customs were nothing if not direct.
Akeno and the others watched quietly, each harboring their own little dreams. Once Rias and Draconis Yi tied the knot, their turn would come…
Grayfia appeared, her voice gentle. "Ma'am, Lady Rias, the master has returned. He'd like to dine with you all tonight."
Venelana nodded. "Very well. Let's prepare for dinner. Rias, lead the way."
…
Night fell.
The aristocracy's excess was on full display—even mealtimes warranted their own grand hall, a twenty-meter table soon laden with rare delicacies and gleaming silverware. The food was exquisite, the setting opulent.
Everyone took their seats, waiting as a distinguished middle-aged man strode in and claimed the head of the table.
Rias's father—the current Gremory patriarch.
He radiated noble energy, his fiery red hair unmistakable. That same vibrant color ran through the family: Sirzechs, Rias, Millicas. The genetics were undeniable.
"Well then, all of you—Rias's peerage—please treat this as your home. You're new to the Underworld, so if you're confused or need anything, just ask the maids. No need to be shy."
He smiled warmly, inviting everyone to begin the meal.
Draconis Yi picked up his silver knife and fork, slicing into a perfectly cooked steak. The taste was sublime.
"By the way, Draconis Yi," the patriarch said suddenly.
Draconis Yi answered with composed politeness. "Yes, sir?"
"Though this is our first meeting, I've heard much about your talents. Sirzechs holds you in high regard."
"Thank you, sir. I'm honored by both your and His Majesty's trust."
His calm, measured response earned an approving nod.
"Hehe, if there's anything you want, just say so."
Draconis Yi smiled, raising an eyebrow. "Thank you—but I'm very satisfied as things are. As a young devil, I still have much to learn. I'll do my best."
Watching Draconis Yi handle her parents with such poise, Rias felt her heart skip. She'd always worried her human-born fiancé would struggle with devil aristocratic customs, but he was flawless—humble, courteous, unflappable.
Akeno, Asia, and the others were equally dazzled. Their hearts echoed the same thought:
Our man is strong, humble, and devastatingly handsome…
Rias's parents were clearly delighted. They'd done their homework—Draconis Yi was a prodigy, an upper-class devil with power rivaling the Maou themselves. Among the young generation, he was unmatched.
Rias's father smiled, satisfaction clear. "Draconis Yi, from now on, you can call me 'Dad.'"
Rias froze, cheeks blazing. "…Father."
Draconis Yi: "…"
Were all devils this straightforward?
