"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 231: You Smell So Good~
From the looks of it, the Gremory patriarch had already made up his mind—Draconis Yi was going to be his son-in-law, no questions asked.
Rias, meanwhile, could barely lift her head. She poked at her food, cheeks flushed, too shy to meet Draconis Yi's gaze.
Venelana, ever the composed matriarch, smiled and chided her husband, "Darling, don't rush things. These matters should unfold at their own pace, don't you think?"
Zeoticus just shrugged, unabashed. "What? They're perfect together. Have you seen how Rias looks at him? This is nothing like her last engagement…"
Venelana's tone sharpened. "Which is exactly why you should consider our daughter's feelings. That's a lesson you still haven't learned."
She launched into a gentle lecture, leaving the formidable head of the Gremory family nodding sheepishly.
Venelana turned to Draconis Yi, her gaze thoughtful. "You'll be staying in the Underworld for a while, won't you?"
Draconis Yi nodded. "That's right. I'm here for the promotion exam."
Both parents fell silent, suddenly reminded of just how far he'd come. On paper, Draconis Yi was still a low-class devil, but in reality, his strength was enough to challenge even Maou-class opponents. He'd grown so fast that the ranking system itself had to scramble to keep up.
A talent like his was enough to make any devil's head spin.
Venelana cleared her throat. "In that case, before you leave, you'll need to brush up on proper etiquette. It'll help at future gatherings."
Her tone brooked no argument.
Rias frowned, slapping her palm against the table. "Father, Mother, what's with all this interference? Please, don't meddle in my life—or in the lives of people close to me."
She'd always worried Draconis Yi would struggle with the devil world's endless rules. Seeing him handle things so smoothly had brought relief—until her parents started up again.
Venelana's smile faded, her eyes narrowing. "Enough, Rias. You canceled your engagement on your own, remember? Even if you won through the Rating Game, do you have any idea how much work your father and Sirzechs put into smoothing things over with the other families? The Gremory reputation is at stake."
Her voice softened, but every word carried weight. "Rias, even as the Maou's sister, you need to show restraint. This engagement should be the last time you act on impulse."
Rias fell silent. Draconis Yi caught her eye and offered a reassuring smile, breaking the tension. "It's really no trouble, sir, ma'am. I'm actually interested in learning proper etiquette."
Of course, that was a lie—who actually enjoyed all the fake smiles and empty pleasantries of high society? But playing along was child's play for Draconis Yi.
Truthfully, Venelana's demands were about family reputation. If he showed up to a gathering acting like a delinquent, the Gremorys would be the laughingstock of the Underworld. As far as Draconis Yi was concerned, respect could just as easily be earned with his fists—but if he was going to play in the Underworld, he'd use their rules, at least for now.
Zeoticus watched him with a knowing look. He could tell Draconis Yi's poise was genuine—confidence and natural grace that couldn't be faked. But he was also clearly someone who followed his own path.
Times had changed. Young people were freer than ever.
"Then it's settled," Zeoticus said with a gentle smile. "Don't worry too much about it."
Venelana's expression softened. "Just know we only ask because we see you and Rias have a future together."
She seemed genuinely pleased—at least with smart people, conversation was never exhausting.
The parents' gazes grew even more approving.
Draconis Yi shot Rias a grin. She turned away, blushing fiercely—adorable as ever.
…
Night in the Underworld.
Technically, there was no sun or moon here, but the concept of night still existed. For the sake of those who traveled between worlds, the Underworld used magic to simulate sunrise and sunset, casting the sky in shifting shades of light and darkness.
Draconis Yi stood alone in his cavernous bedroom, the bed so large it felt almost absurd. He gazed out the window, lost in thought, replaying the day's events.
A gentle knock at the door. Rias appeared, silhouetted in the doorway, dressed in a sheer, flowing nightgown. Black lingerie showed faintly beneath the fabric—subtle, but impossible to ignore.
"I'm sorry about dinner. My parents went overboard with their demands…"
She'd come to apologize.
Draconis Yi smiled, shaking his head. "It's nothing. Hardly worth feeling wronged over, don't you think?"
"But you hate all that etiquette stuff, don't you?"
Rias stepped closer, wrapping her arms around his head and pulling him into her embrace. "I'm sorry for making you do things you don't like… for me."
Her scent filled his senses, and Draconis Yi felt his mood lighten.
"You stood up to your parents for me, didn't you?" He looked up at her, his voice gentle. "If we're both willing to make sacrifices for each other, maybe we shouldn't worry so much."
Rias was moved, love blooming bright and fierce in her chest.
She hugged him tighter, murmuring, "I love you so much…"
It was almost suffocating—but Draconis Yi wouldn't have traded it for anything. He tumbled with Rias onto the bed, laughter in his eyes.
"Rias, you smell amazing."
"…Stop it, you're embarrassing me." Rias turned her head, cheeks aflame.
"What? We've been together like this so many times."
"But… I still get shy."
Draconis Yi couldn't help but laugh at her adorable reaction. Alone with him, Rias was pure innocence; with Akeno around, she became fiercely competitive, always determined to come out on top.
Not that Akeno was any different. Those two—master and servant, best friends—were a constant source of amusement.
